Man how did I not know about this series earlier? I've been dragging my feet on diving into fusion because it seems complicated - I don't think it looks any less complicated now, but it's certainly less intimidating. Thanks Doug, on to part 2!

Thank you for jumping into parameters so quickly in the process! I've heard so much about "parametric modeling" capabilities with Fusion, but thought they were limited to one variable per dimension at a time. Showing the way formulas work into the mix has me much more excited about leaving Sketchup and going to Fusion, and de-mystified a lot about how to use Fusion to model joinery as well!

I am fairly new to F360 and CAD in general. I have been going through a beginners course to get the basic functions down and felt like I’m getting a decent grasp on it and then enter you showing the ability to add user parameters and my mind was blown! Love that you can do it that way. That is a game changer for sure. Thank you for these videos!

Class act man! Great job! Took me 2 weeks of frustration to learn Sketchup. Dropped the program after I learned it, "good enough" and feel in love with the features and capabilities of Fusion. Just started 2 days ago and the frustration was the same as starting sketches. This video saved me! Keep it up!

THANKS DOUG! I have been looking for a designing solution for my Mac for a long time and at 5:15 in this video, paused and went to get Fusion 360 (Personal). SO EXCITED! I haven't been in my shop for a bit and want to ramp back up. I was an AutoCad (2D) user for many years and while this will be a lot different, I'm ready for learning new stuff. I'll probably walk through this 4 part series to get my feet all sorts of wet. Thanks again - this free/powerful CAD find and your channel were gifts!

Loved this video. Had to be the most informative video I've see around F360 and woodworking. Your video was great in showing me how to create several cuts as a woodworker. New to any CAD or any automated software, but I love Fusion 360, although I have a bit of a learning curve. I'm a wood hobbyist and have been old school for my entire life mostly hope chests, beds, tables. These days I've interested in purchasing a CNC to produce smaller products for gifts. Really enjoyed this - although the 15 minute video turned into 90 minutes of me playing and learning navigation. Well worth the time. Thanks

Although this video is pretty old, I really appreciate you for modeling with parameters. Alot of Fusion Tutorials reinforce bad habits of sloppy models that brake the instance you want to change something but this is excellent!

DN Handcrafted it does! I was pretty proficient with sketchup and I think that’s made fusion a little harder for me. I’ve realized it takes a dynamic approach to model efficiently.. doing a lot of jumping between additive and subtractive methods.

Thanks for this video its helped me so much, I trying to model up a feeding station for dogs, and have been pulling my hair out trying go get the walls to adjust on one side only if I change the wall thickness in the parameters. I need the inside area to be constant no matter how thick the walls are but when I change them from 12 mm to 18mm, they get thicker on both sides, making the inside area smaller, can you tell me how to add thickness to the walls to only the outside of the wall. Hope this makes sense. Thanks again for a great video.

Can I add a new sketch in a file that would behave with separate parameters like two different sized cabinets in the same drawing? Very helpful series.
@DNHandcrafted
@DNHandcrafted 5 лет назад
If you start with another sketch and draw it again with different parameter names, you can have two in a single file. But if you wanted to see two different versions side by side where the only thing changed were parameters, I don’t think that’s possible.

Hi, thanks for your hard work and effort in creating these video's! I'm not sure if this is due to changes in fusion but when i go to the parameters dialogue box i don't have a 3rth parameter for my sketch were you apply "thickness"... I only have 2, for the length and for the width... So i can not link this to the user parameter you/me created : Thickness. Maybe someone knows why? Thanks!!

Thanks Mark! I use a Logitech M510, it’s only $19.99~ on Amazon. Honestly I use my touchpad the most, because I’m not often sitting at my desk when modeling in Fusion. After I add the height of the extruded wall, the base disappears. I then go to the left side of the screen and find the sketch section has one sketch called "sketch1". @DNHandcrafted
@DNHandcrafted 6 лет назад
Ok, so I think I might know what the problem is. If you click on the monitor icon in the bottom of the screen, and check the Object Visibility menu - are Sketches unchecked? If not sketches, see if any of the other options are unchecked. The only other idea that comes to mind is the possibility that the lightbulb next to sketches itself is off, even if the lightbulb next to your target sketch is turned on (I've done that before!) Let me know if either of these suggestions works for you! I'm sorry I didn't check several days ago like I said I would.

Hey Darren! That’s too bad. This is a series for woodworkers using Fusion - if it was for machinists or engineers I could understand using metric regardless of location in the world. But as a woodworker in the US, many of our tools have Inch measurements, our measuring tapes are the same, etc. I’d have to go out of my way to use metric (plus it’s what I grew up with and am most familiar with). The principles I use in the video apply regardless of the system you use. Hope that explains my choice some!
