FYI for people watching this in later version of autodesk, the patch environment has been renamed to Surface and is selectable from the design workspace

Your use of a twisted sweep surface to get a helical path was an eye opener for me. This is exactly what I needed!

Cool trick, wish they'd just add a simple helical sweep feature already lol

You can also create the sweep using the Pipe command.

How about a 3D spline path? We face a problem that if the points of the spline have variable distances, the sweep generation somehow distributes the twist angle proportionally to the distance of the spline points.

Hi Thanks it was helpful! I'm also working on Spiral Sweep right now but my case is kinda tricky. I am wonder if you can have a look on my captured image?

Hey, thx. :) Very interesting. Also, there's a helical add-on available for Fusion 360. I've also viewed a RU-vid vid about it.

Thank you!!! so informative! Just liked and subscribed! can't wait to learn more from you. Maybe you can help me. I am doing a tapered helical sweep that is overlapping (like trying to look like a sea shell) but I am getting issues because fusion 360 says it cannot create the body because it overlaps itself (which I totally want it to do to get that desired shape). Any ideas?

You may need to make the sections separate sweeps in order to make it do what you are asking. You could send the file over to me and I can take a look at it also

Would you be willing to share the file with me so that I can take a look?

Nice. Can you make the distance between coils vary over distance along the sweep?
@EugenePentland
@EugenePentland 6 лет назад
Rocket you could do that, but it would be a bit of a pain. So if you wanted 3 different sizes, you would have to do 3 planes along the path, make a new sweep in each of those sections and add a different twist angle for each sweep.
