From you name I see you has Danish Origin. could you maybe make a Danish version of the basics? I´ve just began my education And need to learn this software.
Great tutorials. I can’t for the life of me, copy, rotate and raise a stair tread for a set of spiral stairs. Could you possibly make a tutorial on that?
Lars Christensen Thank you so for your commitment and passion to teach fusion 360. Have been using 3d modeler Lighwave by NewTek, which is really a totally different breast. So in short I wanted to learn cad but felt it was to much to take on.. Not anymore. Thank you again and hope you can keep up the awesome training.😀
I teach Fusion 360 for high school students. I really like the flow of this video and the functions and features that are introduced, but my students get frustrated by the mismatch between the UI in the video and the current version. Any chance of getting an updated video to match the current UI?
@@shiraz1736 My kid's highschool teaches Fusion 360 in their introduction engineering design class using the PLTW curriculum. Seems like the default CAD software in highschools. It is fairly easy to get started with and AutoDesk has an educational framework developed with all the appropriate licensing.
@@peteroleary9447 Thanks for your reply Pete, is there a fusion beginner software package available at a reasonable price if you are not enrolled in a training course ?
Could you do an updated version of this video with the latest edition of Fusion 360? Right out of the gate, Model is now Design, which threw me off of even being able to get started. From the other comments, there are lots of other changes that can be confusing for a beginner. Thanks for this video!
@@jithamanyusettur3163 Looks pretty different to me. Maybe if you were used to the previous versions it's a minor change, but I'm new and so many of these menus and options aren't in front of me. Or maybe have different names? Heck if I know. I'd love to see an updated tutorial.
@@KurtSchwindu can start with this ru-vid.com/group/PLmN15diDm2iKJ_snJ60QpUUMcte19QaTs and then get some familiarity with updated version then u can come back to this....
Hey Lars, is there any chance of an update series with the new UI? Tried to follow you but things work differently now. Couldn’t get my lines to turn from blue to black. Super frustrating. I’m sure a new series would be very popular
They are pretty cool. Prices aren't bad either. I think soon it will follow the paper printing market. Sell the machine fairly cheap. Make the money on the filament.
This video is great, but it would be great if you did an updated version of it because there are plenty of changes that have been made to the program, such as the Model environment is now called something else.
im enjoying your videos but having difficulty cause the new version of fusion 360 the commands are different and I cant get passed the extrusion part. the "Q" command doesn't work for me and im stuck having a circle on my screen. getting discouraged. but i really want to learn this..
For the first time in 30 years, im happy like a little kid for learning a software. Im not a profesionall nor will i need this in my professional life, but man am I happy to have been able to create this insignificant box of pixels. All the instructions were damn easy to follow and even if the software shown is a bit outdated just a bit of investigation made it possible. I would like to kindly thank you kind sir for this. You have gained a faithful subscriber, hoping to grow with you.
Unfortunate that so much of the UI has been moved around or changed since this was made. I love your teaching style but it's very frustrating to be following along and keep having to stop because what I need to do is no longer there. Then I have to scan around and look for where something has been relocated or renamed, sometimes having to go to a search engine to find the solution. It makes learning with this video go from what should feel like a joy to truly laborious.
The version I'm using - 2.0.8412 on Windows 10 - doesn't have quite the same keystrokes, and this makes for some confusion, especially with Press Pull, where it appears you need to get into a kind of 3D view for it to work at all. In the upper left is a square that might say "TOP", and if you put your mouse in the cube and click+drag, you can change the perspective; then Q=Press Pull works as described.
Lars, Bless you my friend, I have wanted to learn CAD for years but till I retired never took the time; embarrassing for someone who lives in Autodesk’s home town [San Rafael,CA]. I am 2 vids into your Intro to Fusion series & love the presentation, so clear and so logical; this gives me hope I can actually master this great tool. Well, back to school. -Take Care & Thanks
Best beginners tutorial I have seen so far for Fusion 360 the others tend to fly around with the mouse leaving the details missing. please keep them coming thanks
Wow I started CAD drawing in high school and then went on to get a degree in music...so I hadn't messed around with my industrial arts side. We barely touched Auto CAD and mostly did work on John Apperson's CADSTD. I love the fact that the Autodesk company knows that there are hobbyists out there that do basic hobby works and cannot afford the same price as companies that can afford the program. This is the very heart and soul of being a maker and I salute you all. Thank you for being there for the big guys and us little guys (and gals too).
Hi Lars, thanks for the great videos. This one seems to be very out of date based on the current version of Fusion 360 (12/17/2020). I hope you will consider revising this video series to make it useful again.
Newbie to Fusion 360 writing on 12/19/20. Helpful video, enjoy the slow pace. BUT... the video could use updating, because the menus and short cuts have changed in the past two years. Although, having to search around to find the current location of the commands (particularly the shortcuts, which have changed) had its own value in familiarizing me with the menus and helping me find my way around.
This is great! I just started playing with fusion360 after using Sketch for a few years. This video was very easy to follow. Looking forward to learning more!
WARNING: the current version of Fusion 360 Personal Edition, is subtly different than this video presents. It's good information, but it is extremely easy to fall of the track of the video, because they have been tweaking this UI for the last 6 years and of course it is going to drift. Such is life.
yeah right from the start I"m not able to follow because it's different from my version of personal 360! trying to learn how to resize a model, it's an adapter, i need to change the diameter of one end without changing the diameter of the other end... I've got no idea where to start! 😞
Hello, I am not an engineer, I am an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. I am less than a beginner in 3D modeling and sketching. I tried to look for many videos to start learning but I have to admit that you are perfect in explaining things to guys like me and you really know how to present your ideas and to explain why. Thumbs up, thumbs up and thumbs up. I will continue watching your videos and I hope I find w-hat I am looking for. Foe example I have stl files for mandible and stl file for bone plate, and I am trying to virtually bend this plate on the outer contour of the mandible. I hope I can find a solution here
Great. Finally I have found someone who can explain how to use CAD in a simple and understandable way. You take the time to explain things, illustrate and repeat your explanation to ensure the viewer knows what you are referring too. I am learning a lot from you. Thank you.
Lars: You know you are good when you have an amateur on this end yet I am creating parametric designs that are replicas of what you are presenting in your videos. Two thumps up. Thank you.
Really great tutorial . I just spent the last 2 hours watching Autodesks videos and was totally lost. Your 20 minutes blows them out of the water. Great job. Thanks
First, I am trying to learn by 'Monkey see, monkey do' and the first thing I see is 'MODEL' on the topleft corner - I don't have that, I have 'DESIGN'. I am going to presume that Fusion360 has changed since 2016 when the video was made. It just makes me wary what else may have changed.
Now I have watched the 2nd video in the series and I am starting to get excited about the capabilities of the software. I am converting my 3D modelling mind from SketchUp to Fusion, the former was my 'quick and dirty' solution to CAD for 3D printing. Already I see solutions to the features (lack of) that frustrated me before.
@@roberttownshend3050 sounds super cool! just keep going i think it will get easier along the way (after i have watched the video i'm gonna say what i learned
I watched the videos - several times - and set about making my first 'real' design. I have done a few quick small components, a collar with holes, a support column and about a year ago I took a dxf file of a gear profile, extruded it on Fusion360 and 3D printed an intermediate gear for my mini-lathe. This time I needed a rack for my small (4mm - 11mm) spanners. It took a couple of hours and several changes of direction in the way I did the CAD, but when I got to the final stage and mirrored the two sides to make the rack, I felt that I had started to get a grasp of how to do things. The rack was 3D printed and is now in use. I am sure that Fusion360 will be much the same as learning a musical instrument. Uncertainty at first and a lot of hesitation and mistakes, but with practice I hope I will get more fluent.

In the current version, can't turn the origin on as shown in this video... :( This is like the kicad learning curve all over again... minor updates change the UI, and leaves people trying to learn in the dark...
This series is fantastic and perfertly put together but it's extremely outdated at this point. The new version of Fusion does not align with this video and a lot of what is covered will have you Googling for the new method. You cannot follow along. Watch this video if you want an intro to design but it's not suitable for learning Fusion anymore. @Lars, please update this video for 2022 if you can.
He is using an older version in this tutorial, but he just recently put out a video explaining the differences between the interfaces. That allowed me to follow along with this tutorial pretty seamlessly. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YWauyoXg1yk.html
Just watched the video and followed along. Had some issues with push/pulling the second time around to get the depth of the box, not sure what happened but eventually got it. When switching from the top to the bottom of the box how did you rotate the view to the bottom? I don't think you talked about that shortcut in the video unless you've got others I should watch first.
Just downloaded Fusion 360 yesterday. These series of videos got me to know the software well and I could start explore a bit. It is true that it is outdated, some name and menus has changed, but with a little bit intuitive exploring you will find the most of the functions used in the video. I agree with some of the comments down below that it would be great with an updated tutorial. I like the teaching style of these videos. Thank you for these.
This is really helpful. The only issue is, I'm using the 2021 version so a lot of commands are no longer in the same place. Either way, it's a great introduction. Additional comment: I tried drawing a line from the bottom upwards and it won't let me. If I move up and to an angle, the line only moves along the base and there's no way I can change it to create an angle.
Fking A!!! Was trying to figure out how to start with fusion 360 for about 2 hours. Couldn't understand even how to start a sketch. This 20 minutes video made me feel like a professional now🙏🙏🙏🙏
Maybe need to update your tutorial? As the UI seems to be very different from this today. Top first menu; selected “Model” on mine it’s “Design”. Then the origin looks different and is turned, half the items in the “Sketch Pallet” are missing. Typing’S’ brings up Design shortcuts and a search for the same item did not work out. Will have to see how much else is different…. Great help so far, thx shame one can’t follow through.
Hi, Great videos! but I think I'm right in saying that the current version (Oct 2019) has a new UI interface and the 'Model' mode is now dead and 'Desgn' mode replaces it. Using the old functionality UI has also been removed. That in mind the vids are still relevant.
This video is irrelevant. F360 has evolved a lot in 5 years, and nothing is the same from this video compared to the current version of F360. Don't watch this tutorial, it will only confuse you.
@@matthewmax I was able to complete the thing via these videos. Only the purple circles caused some headache, but found out you can add them with projecting. Also the icons have changed and not all things can be found from same places, but still I found these guides so helpful to start with 3d modeling
i dont know what 360 i have but mine does hardly anything yours does. this seems over complicated although you make it look easy. i am guessing it has changed in 6 years. maybe a fresh video could be good
We'll first thing I learned on this today was the newer version which I have doesn't refer to model anymore. It's now Design. I was able to follow along keeping in mind some things that are not the same but have the same outcome👍
Lars' orientation is Y axis up. That setting is accessed by clicking on you profile circle at the upper left, then Preferences -> General - > Default Modeling Orientation. Choose: Y up
great tutorial man I am making the jump from tinker cad to this. I am going to print the box (I made it along with you.) I am hoping that the quality is better! btw the fillet option WOW that's so cool and so much easier than joining transparent plains to whole ones. much more stable cause it's not in a browser
Hi lars. I'm new to CAD and Fusion 360. i know this video was uploaded 5 years ago. My basic screen looks different. Where yours has a box in the upper left corner saying Model, mine says Design, and the drop down menu is different. Has the layout been redesigned or have you configured the screen differently? EDIT: I see that the design has been updated since this video. I will learn the basic stuff first on another video then come back here as I like your style and explanations of why. Just racing through builds doesnt teach you the why.
Lars, when I use the Q function for Press Pull after the Offset command the box doesn't autorotate so I can negatively extrude the middle section away... any ideas?
Marcus Aurelius Yes... It was not working on the 3yo version I was using. Had to upgrade to the latest version. All appears to be working fine now but having some other issues. Not at computer right now. Thanks for your videos 🙏
I am trying to learn Fusion 360 for personal use and it seems like there are significant differences between my version and the one Lars use. I.e. I can't offset the rectangle. I think.
This is the best video I've seen on the basics of Fusion 360! Subscribed. I'm a Designer/Engineer and have had experience with computer software. However, the other people who have presented the basic training jump around or go through things assuming that someone is familiar with the software! Thanks, Lars! BTW, are you originally from New England? Your accent sounds like Mass. or Rho-Disland.
Nice informative video , but it's a bit obsolete now that the interface has changed, couldn't follow in practice at the same time. The absolute beginner here will try to figure the changes with the new version.
My tool bar does not look like yours and some of my features seem different. I just installed this today January 8/20.....so maybe my version is newer? You explain things very very good but results are just not the same....I’m struggling a bit haha
loved your advice on relationships, been having some trouble with my girlfriend and it helped alot. I've tied her down now and given her a bunch of rules and she seems happy this way!
Hey Lars, I tried to learn Fusion 360 5 years ago and stuck with 123D Design. You are so easy to follow and a very good teacher. You speak slow enough to follow and are very comprehend-able. I am sure with the help of your videos that I will be able to succeed this time. Thanks and God bless you.
R.Louis Gaither - Sounds like you've got the new version of F360 with the new UI. Not unlike so many other software companies, AutoDesk likes to jumble their UI's to prove they're not standing still, while declaring it's "New and Improved". In some cases, it actually is.

Exactly, is design the right one to use, for this tutorial i mean?
Hello Lars, I've found your style of teaching very helpful but since Fusion 360 seems to have many changes since you did these videos, it's rather easy to get lost. I appreciate the video but if you could add notes showing how it's done in the new versions would be very helpful...thanks! Remember, it's for absolute beginners, with some patience one can find solutions but it's tricky...
Lars, have you given any thought to updating / revisiting this content? The Fusion 360 UI has changed quite a bit, and for beginners it's a bit frustrating.
Derek, has same question as you, hard to follow when a lot of names, positions and ..... have changed. If it is meant to help a tru beginner, please update screen shots /Dan
I know this is 6 years old at this point but as a complete newbie to Fusion 360 and having watched a few other intro videos this one really helps and makes things simpler for me to grasp.

That's what's so frustrating about this, learn it and walk away for 5 mins, they have changed it and need to learn all over again. Within the 1st 5 mins of the video, the "model" selection isn't there anymore!
But when i try to fillet i get this error "Error: The fillet/chamfer could not be created at the requested size. This might be occurring at the ends of the selected edges. Try adjusting the size or using multiple separate operations. Check that the selected edge chain ends at a sensible position, and if not try selecting more edges."
I second that thought, after about minute 12 I'm wondering, how come mine didn't change... so now I need to learn settings I don't even know where to find.
This is really useful, but you're assuming that we know how to move and orient things on the screen to view the sketch/model at any angle and zoom. I've just found your other video on this, so others who are stuck should search there. I have a 3D Connections mouse, and I had to go into the Windows Menu and launch the 3D Connections mouse properties then Advanced tab. With Fusion360 running, click on the top frame so the Advanced settings says Autodesk Fusion360 and then you can see what is being selected for each control. This then just works.
Watched this and managed to make a pretty intricate thing in Fusion 360 despite the difference in interface. Watch the video and use the core pieces of it.

Lars, I am a new comer to Fusion 360. Many years experience with Creo (Pro Engineer) but very little to Fusion 360. I have a start up question for you and in your beginner video you mention that in my Workspace it should say Model however my version says Design. Is this because it is a newer version or is there something more I need to do?
