I really wish that the Parameters window could stay open while I'm working on a sketch. As it is right now, I have to exit the parameters to add any features, and I hate that. Ideally, I would have the Parameters windows always open to the side of the main window, with easy access to add more parameters or modify them.
@BrianRussellFromWA
@BrianRussellFromWA 3 года назад
I second this feature request. Lars, can you please pass this idea along to the team? Ideally it would be open while I'm modeling so I can quickly add parameters or change parameters.
@BlackSmokeDMax
@BlackSmokeDMax 3 года назад
Agree, especially for modifying. You can now create new ones within the actual dimension itself, so that isn't quite as important as it once would have been. But pinning open for modifying would be great. Even better yet, pinning that window open on another monitor.
@freddieoonk9282
@freddieoonk9282 3 года назад
I totally agree. It would save us all a million mouse clicks 😉 (For beginners he might want to turn off 3D sketch so the auto ‘normal to’ works as anticipated)
@ScruffR70
@ScruffR70 3 года назад
@@BrianRussellFromWA Quickly adding parameters is possible. You just type _yourParamter = xxx_ when dimensioning something and this will create a new parameter with that given name and value. However, redefining existing parameters the same way would be a nice feature. As would be the original proposal to keep the parameters window open.

FRC Team 203 and Mentor Andy McAlpin would like to extend a special thank you for your Videos and how they contribute to our students learning of Autodesk® Fusion 360™. The Pandemic is an unfortunate world dilemma, but the silver lining from remote learning led to our team's many great advances in the CAD design process, knowledge, and basic Fusion 360 CAM skills. Our 203 Team members have made great strides in Redesigning our robot and taking Macinice manufacturing to the next level. From your series and how the collaboration of Fusion 360 engaged our students to learn, our high school decided to switch to Fusion 360. Fusion 360 allows our students to work remotely but collaboratively in a learning environment to grow and learn in a real-world setting. You have a gift that keeps on giving toward grabbing our student's attention. Your unique sense of humor and presentation skills draws our students like a magnet. These last six months have been a large learning curve from taking Autodesk Design Academy web lessons, watching your Fusion 360 Tutorials and learning to design parts, and then taking these ideas from Autodesk® Fusion 360™ CAD to properly sketch and model 3D parts for the design and manufacture of our parts is a critical step forward for us. Learning and understanding the process of our new HASS CNC machine is one of the best accomplishments I personally contribute toward your efforts as a presenter in your series of work. Keep up the awesome job! You are becoming a celebrity in the robotics community.

In the last example I would add the most complex yet useful variant: stick with width of fence piece but change the number of pieces to match the length of the whole fence. The problem is when length is not multiplication, it should adjust space between pieces and if the space is above the width of the piece (plus some spacing in between), a new piece should be added. Would that be a guru level? ;) Willing to add such solution? (I think I did something similar in my project, will have to check) Thanks

This is the important stuff, Lars. It seems like too many videos are WAAAAY too advanced. I still don't know how to dimension sketches in all situations. That 'not-able-to-select-a face-' thing, because another face was in the way buffaloed me for YEARS. Its the small, simple basics that are too steep for me to advance in fusion.

On last exemple. Concidering all the parameter, is this possible to set up something who automaticly choose the number of vertical piece depending of width and fencelength. for exemple, Fusion360 automaticly choose the number of vertical piece with "width" into 120mm and 150mm and an "fencelength" into 10 and 30.?

Lars, At 5:35 you used the 'project' tool to define the ends of a line on the sketch plane. You showed us how to project an entity and you chose the circular top of the cylinder. You did not however show us how to project the body of the cylinder. I tried this but it failed to work on a cylinder. Is there more we should know about the 'project' feature and what it can, or cannot do? What other limitations will we encounter?

I liked learning about how to make joints. I did not know I could do this. However, I did not think your fence example was very real world, varying the width of the board. Boards come in standard widths. You should have made a calculated parameter where you calculate the maximum number of boards that will span your overall width between the posts.

Lars - I would love to see you show how you scetch sheet metal in an assembly - with project a scetch from a solid body (ex base with holes for screws - sheet metal mounted with those screws and some bend. The scetch comes up in sheetmetal - you can choose some preconfigured things like stainless steel 2.5mm but you cannot easily change it, and when you use the base to extrude from, you cannot add flanges. It must be operator error!

You should have demonstrated how you can use a No Units parameter type to set the number of instances of fence slats so they have the same with but will fill the panels. Such as FenceSlatCount = abs(FenceLength / (SlatWidth+SlatSpacing)) Tip: use abs() to remove any decimals and get a round number 👍 Please please please get the Fusion team to export Design Parameters into the Manufacturer workspace, not having this drives me crazy, and having them pass through to CAM posts so you can access them in the post processor would be 👌

Hi @Lars Christensen. I use templates at work that are 3d Printed that we use to align badges for fitment on vehicles. The more we have the better. Toyota makes these specially for us, but they have to come from Japan and take a long time for us to get more. Im wanting to have a go at printing some. The issue I have is they are shaped to the conture of the vehicle. Im thinking this would be very difficult to do in fusion 360. Im guessing Toyota probably uses their 3d model of the car. Do you have any idea how I can achieve this?

@@keithkgb thanks for your reply Keith, I am starting to think that there is something wrong with F360 in France, for the last couple of weeks I can very rarely get files exported in the STL format. Fusion keeps say that they are not on-line and then I keep getting measages that I am not connected to the internet when clearly I am. I use a fully loaded Mac pro so it can not be machine resourses. However, it could be that I use the latest version of OS-X Catalina which used to be a real problem. So today I am going to bring up F360 on my CAD PC workstation and see what happends. Regards Bruce

I came across your channel maybe two weeks ago and was watching your series of three videos for absolute beginners from about 5 years ago. After a bit of head scratching and looking at other videos, my suspicion was conformed, there were not only one update to Fusion 360 but two between your videos and the current version of free Fusion 360. What I'm struggling with is the offset plane when you design the tabs on the lid. My sketch simply will not stick to the lid surface. I'm on the offset plane, but as soon as I ad dimensions to the sketch, it is obvious it's not attached and not even symmetrical anymore. The only difference to the model that I can see is that when I set up the construction line, I don't see two small circles on the outer surface of the lid and when I'm sketching the tabs, not the two circles in the inside either. Can you point to one of your videos that cover this in the current version of Fusion 360 ? Thanks in advance .....

Great to have you back Lars. One quick question. Is there a way that when you duplicate a component the joints go with it. The example I’m thinking about is a kids train set running on a curved track. If you add more carriages can they automatically keep the rotation joint to the carriage in front as well as the slider joint to the track rails?
@allyourcode
@allyourcode 3 года назад
I don't think so, but if you have joints between parts WITHIN an assembly, then you can copy the assembly, and and the joints will be copied over as well. Joint between parts in the assembly to parts outside the assembly do not get copied when you use this method, which is probably not what you'd want anyway. One way to assemble something like bike chain with less work is to do a "pyramid scheme": first, you make an assembly that has two links. Then, you copy that and link the two together. Now you have an assembly with 4 links. Make a copy of that and join them. Now you have a chain with 8 links. By repeating this, you can grow your chain as an exponential function of the number of joints that you have to manually create (most of them get copied). E.g. you could theoretically create a chain with over one million links while only manually creating 20 joints (of course, your CPU would commit suicide before getting to that level; this is purely a thought experiment).
