Been a while since I studied this, but I think what you call "Panum's area" is actually the horopter. Panum's area is a zone within a horopter that the cortex can achieve fusion within. Near fixation a Panum area is very small, but as you move away from fixation panum areas increase in size. This is why the horopter actually gets wider as you move out to the periphery.

Im scared thats what I have. Eye doctors cant see anything wrong and give me a prescription for astigmatism. I cant move my eyes to the further sides, I get a jumping vision, vertigo, fast heart beating, internal vibration and nausea. I also have many floaters, both eyes, visual snow and halos and starbursts in vision specially at night. Vitg of my ears are clogged, bilateral tinnitus and I have TMD. All started after covid last year. Im scared.
How r u doing now? Did u get a concussion too or just since covid these symptoms started? Mine started after concussion the same symptoms as you. Im going to do vision therapy hopefully within the next month. Look for a neuo-optomitrist. If you astigmatism glasses dont work vision therapy might help.
But why was I so good at baseball in grade school up to high school and corporate teams and never struck out and my precision was first base and I was horrible on third couldn’t do it outfield to boring 🤪
yeah i mean its a very surface level illustration of the horopter concept. i hate this concept, as the literature never manages to clearly describe it.
