Fusion VS Rapidfire Analog Module Comparison (HDZero Goggles)

*IMPORTANT* This test is using goggle firmware 9.0.27 - the latest available public beta firmware at the time of recording
This is important because it is the first publicly available firmware that drastically improves the analog performance of the Batch 2 goggles. If you are on any firmware earlier than 9.0.27, your results may not be as consistent as this

Thanks for the review brother. I was worried the rolling screen issue was still rendering the modules unflyable now I can confidently get the rapid fire to try some analog builds

I already own a HDZero Goggles for 2 months, but I was having a bad time trying to get a TBS Fusion. It went out of stock just when I ordered, waited 2 months and then received one with a production error... Then I saw a Rapidfire second hand for the same price as the fusion, found your video, and now I am up and running. After 2 months of line of sight flying, I finally can fly FPV! Stoked! Thanks for the video comparison

Sorry for the confusion - I don't believe the image can be changed on the rapidfire module, itself. I was thinking of the image adjustments the goggle allows in settings. @MoeFPV Год назад
Were you batch 1 or 2? My early experience with rapidfire and HD zero goggles was pretty poor! I fly around the front of my house a lot and 50% of the time I had bad rolling. Glad it's pretty much fixed now!
@navigator2011
@navigator2011 Год назад
@@MoeFPV Yep, mine are batch 2. I just decided to not update right away because, you know, if it ain't broke ... The only weirdness I've experience is sometimes the analog signal drops when I changed VTX power while flying (even at close as in front of my house) and also what *I think* is a relatively small signal range when flying digital at 200 mW. I realize antenna orientation is a factor and these are whoops, but I've also had some rainbow phenomena at closer ranges than I expected.
@MoeFPV
@MoeFPV Год назад
@@navigator2011 Interesting - batch firmware for me was pretty bad for me, at least with rapidfire. It was really only the rolling screen that was causing the problems for me. I will say this firmware is working well so far.. knock on wood !

I've been testing out the new beta with rapidfire and it works so much better in this update! I also tried with a foxeer wildfire module and didn't get as good results. I think the work Carl is doing is very promising and we'll continue to see fixes as time goes on
@MoeFPV

I feel the same way ! TBH thats why i stockpiled so many modules - the rapidfire rolling was KILLING me lol I truly believed it would return to batch 1 levels of analog performance, I guess i was just getting impatient lol excited to see the future of HDZ! Hopefully some more VTXs : ))
@Magneticitist
@Magneticitist Год назад
That looks pretty good with nice colors. Man I tried tons of stuff trying to make it work at ground level and I came to realize the easy cheat is just going with an advertised 2W transmitter + lumeniers but I guess in the air some matchsticks would be better. Either Black Mamba or TS582000. I tried a bunch of different screens and some cheap EV800D's and came to realize for whatever reason this small sologood 4.3in IPS diversity receiver screen just had amazing picture and color quality compared to everything else. Before going further down the analog hole I ended up on the DJI train and I honestly feel like I just should have got that from the start. Analog still has many advantages though especially on the ground.
@MoeFPV
@MoeFPV Год назад
I just picked up my first 2.5w reciever - very excited to give it a try most likely with a double axii Omni and true RC patch. Dji definitely is a great system, especially for larger drones and cinamatic flying. I fly mainly micros, 3" or less, so DJI sort of out of the question :( but I still really enjoy analog and now HD zero!

I loved the steadyview receiver that came with my cobra x box goggles but the module doesnt work as well for me, sadly. Rapidfire will probably be my choice going forward but i may keep my fusion around, too. Im a hoarder, i guess 😅

Thanks for testing! I do like the brighter image from the fusion. I do have the rapidfire. On witch mode do you have it? It looks like a lot less rolling screen I had some really bad ones.... so if I do the newest update on my HDZERO goggles this will be gone? I really like skyzone to flew with the o4x for a long time and still use it some times. And have the steadyview x in the HDZERO goggles now but it's indeed not working as I hoped.... do both antennas work on your HDZERO goggles with the steadyview x module?
@airdevil21

O and the wildfire from foxeer doesn't work with the HDZERO goggles gives a lot of noise on the sound.
@MoeFPV
@MoeFPV 8 месяцев назад
So the most recent HDZ firmware has severely improved the RapidFire performance. I still prefer RapidFire slightly over fusion but ive heard others prefer fusion over RF. In the end, you cant go wrong with either of these two. I would sadly stay away from the steadyview module. it works great in skyzones own goggle, but the module was sadly not up to par
@airdevil21
@airdevil21 8 месяцев назад
@@MoeFPV Thanks. It's indeed not up to par but I still think if it would work properly in the HD zero goggle it would be the best one....I hope HDZERO and skyzone will work on this....

I have HDZero goggles + the rapid fire, but my HDzero cannot power the module no matter what i try. I have ensured the power setting for AnalogRX is set to on, but the only way I can get the rapidfire screen on is via USB power, but the goggle sstill dont recognize the module

How does Rapidfire on the HD Zero Goggles with the new firmware compare to say Rapidfire on the Skyzone 04X Goggles? What about to the initial analogue performance of the HD Zero Goggles Batch 1?
@MoeFPV
@MoeFPV Год назад
That is a good question, Sarah. Unfortunately, I do not have nor know of anyone that has batch 1 goggles but, if I understand correctly, this was an issue caused by firmware. That is to say, if batch 1 updated to the early 9.0 firmwares, the rolling screen problem will also exist. Maybe I can get my hands on some 04xs in the future to test against - that is a good idea! Thanks for the watch and thoughtful questions
@MrJohnston123
@MrJohnston123 Год назад
specifically, what antennas you using on the modules ? Same for both tests ?
@MoeFPV
@MoeFPV Год назад
Rapidfire was using a skyzone mushroom omni and a lumineer patch. Fusion was using a double axii Omni and a true RC patch. Note I had tested these modules over the course of a few days with all sorts of antennas, including matching antennas on both, to the same result. This test is a good representation of the results i was consistently finding and also matched flight footage, so I decided to use it. As you can see, you really can't go wrong with either of these modules.
