Great to see so many other countryman's here. Yes we did live it for sure, and in the 80's, the most magical decade ever!! I made my grandpa build me a wooden harpoon, just like Conan's. And built the Falco and Barracuda in Lego's. I still watch it now and again, when ever i miss it.

This anime is widely spread among us in the Middle East , since it was dubbed in Arabic in the early eighties, it is in a special place in my heart. I love it sooo much it’s one of my favorite thing in my life ,Complete, exquisite ,flawless piece of art. As you mentioned at the beginning of the video that it is Miyazaki’s greatest and most extraordinary work. It is perfection and breathtaking beauty starting from the Gorgeous engineering designs of the fabulous planes, the Geometric design of industria wow just wow ,the aesthetic of the horizons that captivate hearts. The wonderful artwork , especially abandoned buildings after the apocalypse you can see the overgrown in every aspect of anything in anime man look at details it’s in 1978 and still waaay much better than a million of anime streaming today. the unique animation style, the composing that brings you into the atmosphere of adventure never heard like it before , the plot of the legendary story make it a unique work of its kind and one of the best in the history of seventh art. i love everything about this anime but i adore much is the aeronautical style man look at the Falco design or giganto or the Frigate and the brown & green soldiers they are my favorite characters. I hope i cosplay them someday.

Underappreciated...????? You've got to be joking.... I mean, really... Maybe you mean "unknown" in certain countries like the U.S., till recently. You ask *ANY* 80's kid in most European or Arab countries about Future Boy Conan, every single one of them will say it the best animation series ever and an *icon* of their childhoods. I still remember *vividly* that Saturday morning in 1983 when the first Ep aired in my country. I was 10, changed my life, and i'm a fan of this show, it's story and characters for life!!

I’m currently watching the show and it’s shocked me how few people in the US seem to know about it. there is so little discussion on the series and it’s such a shame because it’s so wonderful
@conan5885
@conan5885 5 месяцев назад
It has always been unknown in the US because the author of the book the series is based on didn't liked the adaptation and blocked the release of the show in the US for decades. This was only released in the US a couple of years ago. In most European countries this aired in the early 80's. Every single 80's kid remembers this over here.

I've only discovered this after watching Dororo and I wanted to find some old anime that isn't Astroboy or Gundam. Watching this makes you think, whoever made this, had potential. And he did. I see a lot of elements here that Miyazaki used for his films. Won't be surprised if there is one refence to this show in the Boy and the Heron.

Hahaha I see how I could've written that more clearly. Just incase you're still looking for it, it's a TV show called 'Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!'. It's about a high school film club (Eizouken means film club in Japanese), so when I said 'the Film Club's creations' I was referring to the films they make in the show. I hope this clears things up and please have a great day!

This is one of the cases where the "movie" or should I say show was better than the book that inspired it. I read through Alexander Key's "The Incredible Tide" and this wasn't that good at all. It had incomplete characterization, very sudden and illogical story progressions and unlike the Miyazakian masterpiece this volume spawned it was almost impossible to identify with or have any empathy with the characters. It was a rote, very 2 dimensional children's book of 120ish pages that took about 3-4 hours to read and I took my time reading it word for word trying to find and tease out all the elements from the show. They were certainly there like Lepka and the landing on the beach or whatnot but Miyazaki pulled it off far better. If you just compare the time it takes to watch the show which involved a running time of about 12 hours vs just reading the book which is a small fraction you can understand why the book was so superficial by comparison. For all the media I have seen FBC represents my absolute favorite movie or show. The depth of the story, how the characters evolve, the imagery, music, conflicts, tension and resolution and artwork is breath taking even after nearly 50 years of its initial publication. Surely the animation is dated in some ways but absolutely timeless. Highly recommend watching.
