Future of long-vacant Chicago public housing complex to be up for vote

The Julia C. Lathrop Homes along the Chicago River used to be a public housing complex. The beautiful North Side location is filled with some ugly buildings. They're vacant eyesores that have waited years to be redeveloped, so CBS 2 looked into the latest on Lathrop.

Just say some migrants are moving in, they will spend millions of dollars to fix it up and move faster then tha Road Runner.

I toured this project in 1968 and wrote a paper on it . At that time it was fully occupied with a lot of low income retirees. Had a mix of black and whites , mostly single older people. very few children . It was not luxury housing but it was very clean and well kept. Sad to see it deteriorate over the past decades

Just waiting for redevelopment and some "deals". You really think anyone will develop waterfront property for the poor now ? They will make a deal to do some renovations in the inner city and use the waterfront for luxury condos with parks and a Marina. Those in the know and inner circle will make millions.

JL Living in the building by himself didn't want anyone else living there because he liked living in a building alone but what you don't hear is cha boarded up the vacants and some how some one came in the building and tore the vacant doors off , JL puts a 2x4 to block the entrance door according to JL in 2016,

Most of us do. I’m still happy to see citizens who need housing get a place to stay. When you have a place to live, a lot of the problems that homelessness causes simply aren’t an issue anymore.

QUESTION why is 2 of our former lathrop LAC PRESIDENTS involved with John dermontt the same man that is JL and 3 other lathrop residents that was against lathrop homes north vacant side in 2011 being all cha units , John said cha should give vacant north side to homeless people , John is anti cha poor people having a place to stay and poor Pele on the waiting list ,

SOMETHING TO KNOW 2022 Feb to 2023 May, no lathrop residents got a full time construction job , I was broke , related was part of the construction and my land lord , CHA , bowa , tandem ventures , companies I told i was almost broke , I had to beg for a part time job and they was glad to give me the 5 day work rule to wash they hands to say you got a iob ,BUT I worked 5 out of 16 days enough money to pay for bills and upcoming union card Tandem Ventures , Bowa refuse to give my a full time job , 😮

Developers waiting for a fire sale. Especially with a water view. There will be tax credit deal for trade of less desirable properties. Wait and see. Waterfront condos with a Marina coming soon ! Trade for some shoddy renovation of inner city properties.
