problem is all 4 guys squeezed the franchise for every last cent, no one took even a small discount, plenty of teams have 4 good players but they're making 8-9 each not 11 plus

if you watch the round 2 playoff series. its very clear the leafs have a long way to go to compete in the playoffs against. Florida, Boston, Carolina, New York, Dallas , Colorado , Edmonton and Vancouver. None of these teams playing in the 2nd round have 40% or more of their cap tied up into 4 underperforming players

22 million can get you a lot of good players in a years time

Toronto didn't lose the series in Game 7. They lost it in games 3 and 4 when they didn't even show up. If they played those 2 games the way they played the last 3 (OT not included) then they probably win it in 5 or 6 games. Marner had to be yelled at on the bench and humiliated by his teammates to get his ass going in the series... and even then he found ways to not go in the greasy areas of the ice when the play dictated that he needed to. Trading Marner should be priority # 1.

Has Marner ever been clutch in playoffs? we seen it this year from JT in G5 OT, AM in G2, & WN in G6.

Pisses me off as a leaf fan that we have to lose a guy like marner because of cap mismanagement. Dubas set the bar way too high from the moment he joined the leafs with these guys contracts on top of the JT one and it’s cursed us since.

They need to run a public marketing campaign to hear what the public has to say. The slogan can be, “If Good isn’t Good Enough, then what will be Good Enough?” They need to promote this campaign all over the city. TTC, Yonge and Dundas Square, Malls, etc Put the people’s opinion to work and listen to what we the fans suggest.

Tavares only has one year left so he doesn’t have to uproot his family to relocate them to a new city for 12 months. If he plans to resign with the Leafs as a free agent for say a reasonable $5 M AAV for three years, he definitely doesn’t need to sell his Mississauga home. Which teams would want Tavares as a 1-year rental for $5 M with the Leafs retaining $6 M? There might be quite a few. The Leafs in moving Tavares and Marner one year ahead of schedule would respond by saying they’re one year closer to appearing in the Stanley Cup Final. The new head coach would start his tenure with a cleaner slate (2 out of the Core-4 would be gone).

They should join Dangles new hockey league, that's what's best.

Front office is the issue. They never replaced muzzin after his career ending injury. Had 22 mil this past offseason and signed klingberg. He had a season ending injury. Never replaced. You gave the coach a plethora of 3rd pairing dmen playing minutes they shouldn't be. Front office cost the coach his job for failing to provide the tools to win. Regardless of the coach the results will be the same. They need a Front office who will.provide top 4 D which the leafs lack. Lets all remember... treliving totally blew up the flames. Trade Marner or Tavares? Mathews scored 1 goal in 10 playoff games. Reilly is always a minus. Matter of fact he’s a “Career -15” . Imagine putting up with that bullshit thinking he’s an actual # 1 D Man.

dubas and shanahan really f*cked us over by including the NMC. Being a GM or president is an interesting position because you can completely f*ck over a team and then just leave and start fresh, elsewhere.

All the analysts are saying the the same thing over and over again. Tavares will stay and then sign a team friendly contract, which will be a good choice for the Leafs. Marner will get a long term contract at around the $11 m he wants, and his NMC will be waived and he will be traded to a team that he wants to play for. He is aware he is not fitting anymore and it is in his best interest to get waive it and get moved. He could wait to go to market, which is possible, but I do not see that happening. Sammy will walk as they are not interested in him.

The Leafs can slip an envelope to a player to drop his NMC but other GMs will force Toronto to eat a lot of salary.

Leafs need a rehabilitation project for Marner. Mitch has to learn to just play his heart out for Leaf Fans & not just because he likes to be treated as a God in Toronto. 😀

No. I don’t think tue Core 4 can get us to the Cup. JT hasn’t really been a difference maker. Still 1st round exits and plenty of 1st round exits. Same with before IT came on board. The 3 Amigos couldn’t get it done either. Still some 1st riund exits and a play in series lost to the Jackets. Love The fire power but they have to split them up. It’s time. 8 years. Many 1st round exits. 1 play in series loss. And 1 2nd round exit. Dubas focus was on offence. And in goal. But not really the defence. The defence had been one the Leafs weakest link imo. They rw talking tze talk. But let’s see them walk the walk. I’ve been a fan of the Leafs for almost my whole life (I’m 50) tue last time I remember when it was fun to watch them in the playoffs was Sundin/Quinn/Cujo/Belfour/Roberts/Tucker era. And before that. Burns /Gilnour/Potvin/Clark/Andreychuk era. Those were the fun times.

Alex Barkov takes home 10 million as he plays in Florida. Meanwhile Matthews is paid more on the salary cap but takes home about the same money after taxes. Canadian Team players have the highest taxes in the NHL. The league needs to adjust the salary cap for taxes so there is a level playing field for all teams. Travares is current fighting the Canadian Government for 8 million dollars in back taxes as the government is saying he did not pay enough taxes on his signing bonus 6 years ago when sign his contract. Show me a player in the States having to fight the American government for back taxes amost equal to one years salary on a 7 year contract. 😮

Of all people, they gave Kampf 3 more years @ $2.4 Mil per - how?? Who gave him that bloated contract?? He was a total non-entity in the playoffs.

Marner is scrawny scetch scarachter, tavares is over the hill veteran. Nylander supriced everyone and became one of the best wingers in the league. Auston is regular season ovechkin. I wouldnt change anything cos who cares its only game

They didn't play great in the playoffs, they were inconsistent with effort and execution. You can't even treat half of a game like it's regular season let alone several games in a series. Marner looked like a 3-6 mill$ winger. JT looked like a 7 mill center. That's over 10mill that could go to a couple middle pair two-way defensemen

So if the Leafs beat Boston, they'dve faced the Cats. The Cats would eat them. Then there's the Rangers. The Leafs are far, far away. Not close.

Marner is one of the best talents in the league. Don'tt blame the forwards because Keefe coulddn't get them the puck. Keefe has no breakout game. The D CANNOT make the first pass.

Those four contracts are a disaster. Those four guys combined don't have the same value as one Alex Barkov and Barkov has a cap hit merely of $10M. Anyways, nobody in the league is going to take on any of that action. Leafs will bottom out next year after their next early playoff exit fiasco. At that point -- assuming they don't double down on stupid -- Tavares and Marner will come off the books and they'll then be able to build a playoff roster. No guarantees however. Bad signings, injuries, bad puck luck, those risks will remain.
