🎯 FX Impact M3 Barrel Liner Wear: Should You Replace It?
Welcome back to Viking Airgunner! In this video, I'm tackling a common question among airgun enthusiasts: "Does the liner wear down after shooting a lot of shots, and should you replace it with a new one?"
Join me as I dive into a comprehensive examination of barrel liner wear in the FX Impact M3. I'll be pushing slugs through both a new and an old liner to visually compare any differences. Additionally, we'll be looking at velocity changes between the two liners and, most importantly, testing for accuracy to determine if the worn liner still performs effectively.
🔍 Key Highlights:
Liner Wear Examination: See what slugs look like after being pushed through both new and old liners, providing a clear visual comparison.
Velocity Comparison:
Discover if there's any significant difference in velocity between the new and old liners.
Accuracy Testing: Find out if a worn liner impacts shooting accuracy, with detailed testing and analysis.
Replacement Considerations: Learn if and when you should consider replacing your barrel liner to maintain optimal performance.
💡 Why Liner Wear Matters:
Understanding liner wear is crucial for maintaining the precision and performance of your FX airgun.
📈 Results & Analysis:
Watch as I present the test results and provide an in-depth analysis, offering valuable insights into barrel liner wear and its effects on airgun performance.

With conventional firearms, barrel degradation usually comes from heat due to friction etc. Single shots in a benchrest setting, isn't heavy wear and tear. Also with compressed air, you cool the barrel in such a way that it is usually colder after a shot, further reducing potential wear and tear. ✌️😊

It takes hundreds of thousands of rounds to shoot out the barrel of a .22 LR and pellets don't go as fast and aren't as hard so I suspect airgun barrels are nearly indestructible.

@TacticalJackalope, im with you on this, even though the fx barrel liner is thin it's not cheap steel, it's fairly hard stuff, also there is no carbon fouling in an airgun, that and extreme heat is what wears a barrel.

Hi Peter, you ever think about polishing the liner? I hear you could make it even better!! Greetings from Argentina!!!
@VikingAirgunner
@VikingAirgunner 2 месяца назад
I have seen people do it, but not if it has made a positive change. If I was sitting next to someone who had done it and I saw the results, I might consider doing it to a bad liner, but my liners has mostly been ok, and if not I have sent them back for a replacement. Problem is that people has different opinions about accuracy. One would say that his liner is good after only shooting at 35m, but at 100 m it would make 5 cm groups, so I never trust people unless they document their accuracy - or if it is someone that I trust. So I would probably not do it to my FX liner. If I by accident removed to much material in the process its pretty much destroied. Best regards and high fives back to Argentina

Other reputable channel Walnut and steel once said about some new airgun that it need few hundred shots in order the barrel to "break in" meaning the grooves to settle to the type of projectile you are using and will start shooting better groups.

I agree, my 25cal Heavy liner has over 40/50k through it & it's sub moa at 115yds easily, with over 10 different projectiles. The issue with the liners is it's a hit or miss to whether the liner you get is a good or bad one, my 25cal Heavy is awesome, my 30cal Heavy it took 3 attempts to get a liner that actually worked to my standard, but the one now again is awesome. So my worry is if they do wear out what will the replacement be like
@VikingAirgunner

What is your experience with the liner over time with the accuracy? Getting better or worse? Differences from new and after having shot 1000-2000 shots?

I am a new subscriber so please forgive my ignorance. Do you only do the .177 barrels? Is this by choice or due to restrictions in your country?

@@TacticalJackalope country restrictions So they don’t have 12 fpe law but they do have caliber restrictions kinda like South Africa with the .22 caliber

Hi and thank you for subscribing to my channel 🙂 Laws in Denmark prevents us from buying anything above 177 without a hunting licence. And getting one of those is a bit of a hazzle. And with the licence anything has to be registered with is a long and time consuming process. So I chose to stay with 177 - and now it seems like my niche 🙂 But even if you are using a different caliber there are many processes that can be compared 🙂

Hello,i just got heavy/slug liner in 500mm,but upon checking length i found it 2.5cm longer then also 500mm rated stx superrior liner,why is that and how to solve problem with end barrel screw only securing liner with few turns due to longer liner,also shroud cant be full aligned due to that longer end barrel screw,thx.

A 308win has 62 000psi pressure and a barrel is estimated to last 10k rounds with copper plated bullets. Your liner is safe 😅

Question: with that amount of shots is there anything that wears out on the gun during that time?
@VikingAirgunner
@VikingAirgunner 28 дней назад
Nothing mechanical that I can think of. Orings will need to be changed over time, but that is no matter if the gun had fire many shots or not.

I dont think that you should expect any particular good groupings past 100 m. You have a short barrel and a light slug. If you want more accuracy at longer distances you should get a longer heavy liner and use 16-20 gr slugs.
