Howdy from Texas.... thanks for the info on the 177 slug test. I just purchased the 177 Slug Tension Barrel Kit from FX in 700mm. I ordered 600 Zan 20gr slugs and hope they will shoot well. I was disappointed in the 177 Heavy slug liner in that it still has the 1:18 twist as the pellet liner does.... just some modifications to the barrel lands. I feel a faster twist would have been better for the heaver slug weights.

I think that many was surprised as you, but the difference is defenately there. I would love to have tried a faster twist rate, but lets see if it happens in the future 🤞 Have you seen my test of the 20 gr Zan in the 700 mm heavy liner? It really performs well 😎

Thanks Piter… I like 12.5gr NSA at 100m with my LW Classic Choked Barrel… I am getting consistent sub 25mm groups… Something to consider…. However like you I want to shoot heavier… So I am waiting on my Alpha Precision barrel to test 20.5gr out to 200m…

Hi Peter. Thank you for your great work in helping us to learn more about cal.177. I'm pretty sure that with a harmonic barrel tuner, you would also have achieved good results. :-) DK

Hi Peter, 16 gr Zan at 960 is also the speed I had good results with. And the H&N 16 gr did also good around that speed. That is out of my Alfa barrel. My modified FX super lightweight doe the 20 gr Zan a bit better than the 20 gr H&N at around 930. Nice that your results kind of match mine. Keep up with the good work Peter. I hope within a month from now to be able to shoot again.

Same here! As I understood the Daystate use a barrel with a light choke, so I imagine that they are costum made and not exactly the same as this one🤔

Piter, you are the best tester for me, I love your videos. Too bad you're shooting with a 177cal. I understand these are restrictions in your country. For me, your tests are not very useful for me, because I shoot with cal.25, currently with Vulcan 3. Best regards :)

Yeah it’s fascinating stuff.. have you been following the karma Airgun’s saga lately? I guess Thayne Simmons of Saber tactical, Side shot, etc… won 3 comps with a prototype red panda last year and I guess the rifle uses a solid barrel and the reason I bring it up is because everyone wants our favorite Airgun company to make solid barrels and go away with the liners and it’s always the biggest criticism people have. But this red panda could actually make enough waves to persuade our beloved fx to try maybe manufacturing an upgrade type barrel you know send you a liner then if you want later you could buy a solid barrel. but hey just look at the results of this video solid barrels don’t always mean better accuracy but I could be wrong. I just took my panthera from .25 600mm to .22 600mm last night I’m really excited and nervous at the same time because I had the .25 zan 33 gr slugs doing very well. And now I’m praying these .22 .36 grain zans do just as good or better yeah I also picked up a eaglevision panthera aluminum mag it’s really nice you gotta get yourself one I love the quality of eaglevisions stuff. Thanks Peter
@VikingAirgunner
@VikingAirgunner 3 месяца назад
The Red Panda is very interesting and I am 95% sure that I will end up with one. Interesting and proven concept! I would not be surprised either if fx would try a different type of barrel, but with the results that people are getting in competitions I am pretty sure that the critisism of the barrels are not always fair. Many people who are diving into fx will start out with and Impact and their first question in the groups on FB is: What is the best tune??? Not caring that it requires a certainly knowledge to get the best out of the gun. And from the first videos of the RP it could very well be the same story. So my predictions are that it will be criticised by the same type of people who are picking on fx now - and for no just reason.

I am wondering if an unchoked barrel requires a slightly larger diameter slug.
@VikingAirgunner
@VikingAirgunner 3 месяца назад
The NSA'S are 178🤔 I think that the barrel can perform better with more testing. Question is how much better🙄
@nickvanderheijden5574
@nickvanderheijden5574 3 месяца назад
ZAN as always good result. No doubt because of the uniformity of the slugs. That the H&N did not perform is no surprise. I have been weighing the slugs in .22 The ZAN slugs weigh 23grn with a variance of .1 plus or minus. The H&N have a variance of a full grain or more. Unacceptable I think.
@VikingAirgunner
@VikingAirgunner 3 месяца назад
In every test Ive done the Zans has always come out on top. Amazing ammo. And not being sponsored by him in any way, it is a deeply honest opinion. I was looking forward to the arrival of the H&N's, but they just keep disappointing. I would really like to know which barrel and gun they have been tested in. I dont recall having weighed them, but thank you for providing the knowledge. I did weigh the KO's and they had a huge spread in weight, but still they shoot way better than the H&N's. In case they decide to make a mk2, I would give them a go, but as for now I will stick to Zan 😎

Dident i post here ????? Damn RU-vid. Anyway TBH i dident expect a LW barrel or other for that matter to be better, maybe in some marginal way like maybe be better at handling heavier slugs. My LW barrel arrived at the CZ factory today ( that CZ as the country code ), hope i get something better soon CUZ it was as bad as the 600 mm barrel in my Maverick was back in the day, if not worse. In the mean time i have changed a lot of O-rings on my Maverick CUZ damn that came tumbling in fast, but it appear to hold air now, the question is can i get a steady shot string CUZ i could not get that for the life of me on Monday. No time to do chrono work, working on shot shed tomorrow and WED and THUR i am Shanghaied by my kid sister. next weekend weather dont look all too good ATM hopefully that change to the better before then.

I believe you’ve shot much better groups out of the standard barrel outside at 100m. Have you tried using the magazine and not moving you cheek weld and head position of the gun between shots?? Your point of aim is probably moving between each shot. Precision shooters try to keep shooting position between shots.👍
@VikingAirgunner
@VikingAirgunner 3 месяца назад
Hi Richard I used to use magazines, but I find that I am more focused with single loading. With slugs the magazine doesnt make damage like with pellets, so it is purely to find the calm between shots 🙂

In my humble opinion I think the cal & weight has everything to do with accuracy. My 22 cal maverick shoots a 40 grn slug at 1010 fps. My 25 cal challenger pro shoots a 32 grn slug at 975 fps. My 30 cal shoots a 50 grn at 950. I have no experience with a 177 cal projectile. I think the length & the wight of the projectile has everything to do with accuracy in my humble opinion.
@VikingAirgunner

I agree completely Raymond 🙂 Also why I tested at so many different velocities. You could say that I could have tested them faster, but with many loosing their accuracy at the max that I tested them at, I saw no reason to continue 🤷 Thanks for your input. It is much appreciated 🤗
