Its been a long kept secret 😜😂 I will test the unchoked very soon, so perhaps you should wait for the result of that test before ordering 🤔 I havent had it made yet, so I cant even give you a hint 😪
Wish I had an indoor shooting area like that! Your target is likely causing some aiming error. It's very hard to aim at the same place on an uneven or nonconcentric shape. You end up aiming at slightly different places each time which enlarges the groups. Easiest way to fix this is to print out a target with rows of a simple cross(or dot if you prefer) on cardstock using a laser printer.

Got 4KG of ammo in the door yesterday, 20 + 16 gr Zan / 20 + 16 gr H&N, a few boxes of the 13 Zan and a couple of tins of the 10 gr MK3 KO slugs. Is that at the local gear factory ? TBH i thought you got a LW poly barrel and a LW regular barrel, both un choked.
Thanks Jamie 🙂 The twist rate is almost the same. In the FX liners it is 1:18 and the LW has 1:17,7. I would love to have 1:16 in both, but untill now this is not produced.

Those 16gn Zan's look like they work well in your LW barrel and don't appear to be especially speed fussy. In my own testing experience I've found slugs seem to work better in the heavier weights, I've wondered if this could be due to the longer length being more stable in flight. Other manufacturers advertise slug barrels with little or no choke so it will be interesting to see your results with the other barrel. You haven't mentioned the specification of your LW barrel, listening to lots of other content, I've heard there are grades that indicate some are of a higher spec. You are so lucky to have a friend that loans you an indoor range.
I just love the 16 gr Zan! The heavier slugs defenately perform better at range, but if I had a 100 m indoor range I think it would be closer between the weights. Im looking forward to having the full test completed and see if there is a real difference between the choked and the unchoked. I gave an intro to the barrel in the previous video 🙂
Looking further ahead I'm keen to see the final analysis of the LW and original FX barrels. I've got rifles with both types of barrel and they are difficult to choose between, as someone with an engineering background I've wondered if the difference between the swaged method of rifling by FX and button rifling of LW makes a significant difference, my feeling is FX barrels are kinder to the projectile.

I think it's not about the match between choke for pellet or unchoked for slug. Based on my experience using these two ammunition, all of them can be used in barrels that have a choke or do not have a choke, but there are other factors that have a greater influence on whether or not the accuracy obtained is good. For me, this depends on the power setting of your rifle and the most important thing is the suitability of the bullet loading and the thickness of the land and groove on your barrel to the diameter of the bullet you are using.
Hey Peter - excellent video ! Shame the H&N's don't seem to suit either the original FX barrels or the Lothar, they were my favourite as a kid. By the way - is there a reason you didn't test any JSB's ? Looking forward to the next video.
Hi Nick When the H&N's came out I was really hoping/expecting them to perform well, but as you know from my tests, they have not impressed in any of the barrels. I tested the 13,43 gr KnockOuts in the first video, so there are in the mix 😎 Strange that they dont make 16 and 20 gr 🤔 Or a 18 gr - surprised to see that noone has picked up that weight.. I think my predictions are as good as anyones, since I have no experience 😃 But I do have a theory: The choked barrel will have a better and more healthy grip on a lighter and smaller slug, where the heavier slugs passage through the barrel will be more an intervention than a benefit. The unchoked might give the heavier slugs a lighter passage through the barrel - so the question is if that is enough to stabilize them enough. The lighter slug might need the choke to stabilize, but it might have the same issue as the heavier slugs by not being stabilized enough 🤓 But if this will be the case, I dont know. But I guess that we will find out soon 😃 And thank you for your question 😎
Well having shot both the 13 and the 16 gr Zan at 100 m now, it seems that the choked LW barrel outperformes the STX Superior liner with the 13 gr. The 16 gr Zan was never a match to the STX Superior liner, but in the heavy liner is a clear winner compared to my results with the LW.
@@VikingAirgunner I am referring to the Fx stock barrel. I bought a fx heavy liner plus carbon sleeve but I am afraid to swap it out as it may change the accuracy it currently shoots. I mainly do small games and @ 60 yards it shoots very well at nickel size targets.
@@vauv_nuvj7614 If it aint broken - dont fix it 😎 The Heavy liner is really good and Im also gonna stick to that. Shot the 16.2 gr Beast in the 600 mm heavy liner and it did really well!
@@VikingAirgunner Honestly I was shooting H&N slugs in my AEA challenger pro and I thought it was the only thing I would shoot. When I bought the impact months later only to find that pellets was more than enough and it was extremely accurate @ 60 yards. In short I bought extra stuff I didn't use.
@@zamaHmar-o8t The question is what the regulations in your country says. Hunting regulations are different from country to country, so I cant say anything about it. I do not hunt at all.
I had my doubts going into the testing, but as I say in the first video - there are brands that uses choked LW polygon barrels that shoots slugs pretty well, so I had to test. When I have completed the test of the unchoked version I guess we will have an answer 😃🤓
Nooooo they aren’t crap, every barrel is going to be slightly different so some may shoot a particular projectile better or worse than others, poly barrels are probably one of the best barrel designs out there
