FX / Hulu 's The Bear Season 2 somehow elevated and escalated the beautiful tension and anxiety of Season 1, and now we're back for me with Season 3, but how does it hold up?
I dive into the next Three Episodes of Season 3 (Violet, Children, and Napkins) dealing with Loneliness, Family, and Drive. Highlighting not just The Berzatto family, but the family within The Bear as well. Plus deep diving into that Ayo Edibiri directed Tina spotlight ep, and a discussion about the importance of adding weight to your guest stars / cameos.
If you enjoy this - Follow me for coverage on the rest of the season as well as Movie News and Reviews and Comic Book Reviews and News!

If you don't know what The Bear is - the synopsis is as follows:
A young chef from the fine dining world comes home to Chicago to run his family sandwich shop after a heartbreaking death in his family. A world away from what he's used to, Carmy must balance the soul-crushing realities of small business ownership, his strong-willed and recalcitrant kitchen staff and his strained familial relationships, all while grappling with the impact of his brother's suicide. As Carmy fights to transform both the shop and himself, he works alongside a rough-around-the-edges kitchen crew that ultimately reveals itself as his chosen family.
It was created by Christopher Storer (who writes and directs the first episode of this season and others I'm sure) and it stars
Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edibiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach , Abby Elliot , Lionel Boyce , Liza Colon-Zayas , Edwin Lee Gibson , Corey Hendrix , Matty Matheson ,Molly Gordon, Oliver Platt, Jon Bernthal and more in this staggeringly great cast.

"If it grows together, it goes together." It's one of the most important lines in all 3 seasons. It's a key line in the farmer's market episode, but I think it's the mission statement of the season. There are other episodes I'll lose my mind about. Napkins destroyed me. But looking at the season as a whole I really think that line is the summary thesis they are exploring anddddd....? Love it. This show is *special.* It's not running at everyone's speed, I know, but it's digging in and letting you breathe in these characters and... that's not an easy thing to achieve. From the actors, directors and writers. This is. Great. I dig it so much.

Definitely agreed. So special And that quote is absolutely essential / thematically everything

Best comment! Well stated! Such a beautifully special show. I love how it doesn't try to rush. In a society of microwave quick fast, I love how this breathes. It doesn't compromise. "She didn't feel the pain yet" at the end of Claire's monologue says it all. Carmy may have to fail hard, lose hard and then when he stops he will finally feel and perhaps deal with his issues. I think Syd might leave. He doesn't want that but he can't see what he is doing. Taking my time with this show. Two more episodes for me to go.

Napkins was such a fantastic episode man. Right when it started with tina losing her job and applying to 100s of places i knew it was gonna end up at The Beef and we'd see mikey. Bernthal's character really just has this amazing presence throughout the show from all the connections all the other characters have because of him and how that affected everyone throughout the previous seasons. So when mikey shows up and we get that talk between him and tina i couldn't help but just constantly smile became this show really is just about a giant family and everyone in it is sooo important

Ep6 is my favorite of the season. But I don’t think anyone gives as much credit as they should to Hiro Murai for producing this and Atlanta. This series even still at s3 is fire!

In case it hasn’t been mentioned already, the guy who plays “Computer” in episode five is played by Brian Koppelman, who wrote the movie Rounders and created the television show Billions for Showtime

PLEASE Coy, get your buddies at the Reel Rejects and Cinepals to react to this S tier level show. Maybe even sit in with them while they watch and give them some great trivia about The Bear. Like how Jaimie Lee Curtis actually sought out to play DD because she was such a big fan of the show that when she noticed that Carmen and Natalie’s mom was always mentioned but never seen she told her agent to reach out to Chris Storer and audition for that part.

Episode 6 was great! When i saw the title and the thumbnail on Disney+ i knew it was going to be a similar vibe to the Forks episode which was one of my top 2 episodes from last season. I knew the whole episode long that Mikey was coming but when she looked at The Beef for the first time to the very end of the episode I was smiling ear to ear. Seeing the old set again after watching it be broken down and replaced all last season was so satisfying. Ayo did a great job directing episode 6. My favorite of the season so far.

See I do love this show but it very much felt like a season 2.5 instead of a season 3

Wouldn't a continuation basically be a new season?
@alexp601
@alexp601 5 дней назад
What would make it feel like a season 3 for you? I guess the first season was about tearing down the sandwich shop, and the second season was about building the new restaurant, and this one is the running of the restaurant, so they all go together as different seasons for me.
@Grimbear13

I felt the same way, there was a bunch of build this season without much payout. When the final episode ended I literally had to check if there was a part 2 of the season because of how the final episode ended.

I thought that was a Chicago Bears logo when I first saw it lol. I know the show is set in Chicago and they’ve done some cross promotion with the Bears, but still had to do a double take

Yeh didn’t see the hartnett and cena cameos coming . It did great for portraying the craziness of the people in between the main characters . It really built up the how we got to hear before the crack happens …..

Coy, love your work and enthusiasm. Please call Ebon’s character Richie or Cousin Richie. The Fak’s I felt kind of held this season together. Always involved and caring with their actions

I'll comment in every video that the Faks really took me out almost every time they showed up. In the words of Kristian Harloff, when they showed up it felt like a bit. The Josh Hartnet cameo didn't work for me only because the conversation didn't work for me. I don't know one future spouse that felt the need to ask the ex permission to marry their ex. So, I guess it wasn't really the cameo as much as the scenario. I don't think I've seen John Cena act before, but this isn't what makes me want to see more of him. The one Fak, I kinda wanted to see was francie because of the mystery history with Sugar. Other than those small qualms, I'm liking this quiet season that seems like the quiet before the storm. The episode with sugar and DD was the best... so much depth.
@alexp601
@alexp601 5 дней назад
I guess it just showed that Josh Hartnett's character is the kind of person who thinks he should have gotten the ex-husband's permission, even if he didn't need it. It just showed what he was thinking and feeling.
@olentie
@olentie 5 дней назад
@alexp601 yes, but very unnecessary and an unrealistic. A better scene for me would be him expressing that he understands the importance of Richie's presence in their lives and his desire to include him in the wedding as Tiff's ex husband and father of her child
@loco_logic

They're starting to go full Steve Urkel with all the Fak stuff this season. Eccentric characters like that are better in small doses.
@olentie
@olentie 3 дня назад
@loco_logic I agree that smaller doses with them are more naturally funny, like in previous seasons and really with just the 2nd brother. In the first 2 seasons, Neil Jeff was funny and never seemed out of place

Season 3 is the prologue to Season 4. I love The Bear but this season seems like a lot of spinning their wheels. Granted, they’re gorgeous wheels with cool rims & what not but still…

I kind of get what you mean, that this season feels like it's spinning its wheels, like it doesn't want to move forward too much. But man, I'm loving those spinning wheels so far!

Yeah, that is the feeling I get for sure in this season. The Bear is a cut above the rest in how special it is. However, out of 3 seasons, this one is my least favorite.
