Part II of testing different H&N slugs in the FX Superior Liner, today is the turn of the 21gn and 25gn slugs, both in .217 and .218. I had some awesome results and a few surprises in this one. Overall the H&N's are performing well on the shorter distances, next video i will be taking them out to the long range.

I did some testing with the h@n in my different slugliners. It’s seems like barrel length makes a huge difference. 500 mm slugliner shoots best with the 217. 600 mm slugliner is better with the 218. The STX pellet liner 500 mm shoots amazing groups with the 21 grain 218.

Very interesting that your gun seems to shoot best groups with the #5 power setting across all of the pellets.

I use 25gr .217 with the same gun, settings and results as you. They are GREAT. I'm sure you will be very suprised at 50/100 m. I wish you would try the 30gr...I'm waiting for them. Very good videos.👍

The problem with the 30gn is that don't fit the old magazines, you have to hand load them and that is a pain.

@@AimSmall Are you sure they don't fit??...Because I used a sample pack some time ago on my Crown (30gr included) and they were fine ! I'm not sure if I used the really old magazines or the newer ones, but I think they have the same depth. 👍

I purchased the Kervan Airboss K1 25 cal. I would like to shoot both slugs and pellets. In order for me to do this do I need to change to a different liner? Or do I just have to experiment? The ideal barrel from what I understand would be the FX smooth twist, superior X barrel I have not polished the barrel yet.

Interesting comparison. Looks like your particular liner has a preference for size, weight and velocity for accuracy. Gerhard and Matt have proven the accuracy of these slugs many times over. I would guess that testing your particular rifle with settings and slugs would establish what your rifle prefers. Good shooting, very fine for target or hunting.

Hi Tony, yes I watch the marketing videos of Gerhard and Matt... harnonic tuning is their answer to everything, I have a lot of respect for Matt, but not everything is shown on the videos, nor the copious amounts of slug liners they have to choose from to get the best one to fit their specific slugs... I bought 3 different slug liners, each preferred a different slug at a different speed. Back to harmonics plus the nbotion that all slug liners are different. I have given up on the marketing fluff in the market, my current slug liner loves certain slugs and weights more than most, so I fine tuned it to shoot 1 particular slug, Matt /gerhard. Roelf etc all will confirm... they shoot a specific slug out of the gun, they don't easily change brands our weights, each gun is setup for a specific projectile and the seldom or never change it...

The twist rate differs and it is differently machined. Both are great liners, they both shoot pellets and slugs great, my A liner loved the JSB KnockOuts 25,4gn .216 , the superior slug liner likes the .217 better

HN slugs 25 gr .217 is so good.... In pellet liner, sug liner, superior liner heavy and wait for..... RTI arms 600 mm LW....

The RTI shoots surprisingly well with slugs, it might be because of the twist rate of the barrel, I have heard good things about it.

@@AimSmall My prophet with the 600mm LW seems to like only the H&N 25gr... I tried the 23, 27 and 30 gr but without minimally satisfactory results (like Shootgun). i have Wild Cat mk2, 600 mm in .22 and 45 fp. tune by my (140 bar reg), twist rate of LW is 31 to 1.

Check out Matt Dubber's videos. He works with H&N in development of phenomenal slugs. He also gives excellent advice on settings for FX brand rifles.

Tried the 21g 217 in my Dreamline and accuracy was spot on but had issues chambering with the magazine. I had to single load to test. Any advice on why the magazine seems to not like these slugs?

I am no expert here, the only thing I can think of is that thr 21gn are very short, they might move around in the magazine and then the magazine might not cycle properly as the slug blocks it, I had the same issue with 29gn slugs the other day, they barely fit into magazine, but gets stuck when cycling, try the 23gn or 25gn, if the problem persist you need to have the gun checked.

I don’t have the power to shoot heavier slugs. The 21g is a good weight for my rifle. I have no problems with pellets and the FX hybrids only these H&N slugs.

Each liner is different. Mine prefer the 25 218s 🤔 I now find the 25 grain 218 wildman slugs to be incredible 👍

Aim Small I’m not sure if postage will be more to where you are. Over here in the uk it’s £18 per 200. That’s the complete cost 👍.

@@peewee007654321 Wow that is expensive, we get JSB Knockouts at 8 and H&N at 11 pounds for 200. 18 is about the same price as Nielsen slugs here.

Unfortunately 30 caliber requires a special lisence which is almost impossible to get in South Africa. Would have loved to shoot bigger guns but we have to live with strict gun laws here.

Hello from the Philippines! Good day kind sir. Will it be possible to request a short video from you using your FX with the superior 22 cal liner using the jsb 18.1 grains at different velocities..aka power wheel level to help us decide if we will puraue getting a liner from the US to be shipped here in our country and to know if they are worthy to be used in our local benchrest air rifle shooting. @@jasperaguila5513 Most certainly, I just got a new FX for pellet testing specific, zeroed it today at 30m with the STX Slug liner A... man that thing is accurate. My other FX has the heavy Superior liner in and setup to shoot slugs 30gr slugs at 950fps, way too fast for 18gr pellets. Buying a new liner for pellets will be a waste of money, the old Pellet liner and Slug Liner A is by far the best for shooting pellets up to 100m. The superior liner and heavy superior liners are build for slugs, faster twist rate etc. Stick to the older liners for pellets and bench-rest.

@@AimSmall I am actually using a lothar walther barrel blank that was fitted to my pcp. I was wondering should I get the superior liner if its worth it but as you have tested then I guess I will rather stick to my lothar barrel until a new barrel would become better. Thank you kind sir!

@@jasperaguila5513 Use what works, Lothar Walther barrels are high quality, many top competition shooters use them, I don't have first hand experience with slugs in them, but for pellets they are just brilliant. I like the FX Smooth twist barrels as they don't lead up and don't need constant cleaning. If you see that the barrel needs a lot of cleaning then maybe consider a smooth twist and even then you need to decide if you are going to shoot slugs or pellets mostly, the normal STX A liner I found is best with light weight slugs and brilliant with pellets. (light weight up to 26gr)

H&N .218 35 yards at 840 ish fps, FX Crown mk2 with a superior liner are putting five shots in the same ragged hole, you can't blame the gun.

Nope, but every barrel liner differs, I have had my share of bad liners and also good liners. Best results at 100m is with the H&N 27gr so far.

@@armandojr.pascual4418 600mm or 700mm barrel? AT what speed? I have the FX Impact X (Mk I) but I added the power plenum, before the power plenum I could launch 26gn slugs at 935fps at reg pressure 160bar and it was still economical. The new MK II with the upgraded reg can do the same at 135bar.

@@AimSmall Thank you very much for your time. I have a 700mm Mk2. Got a stuck knock out slug at the barrel choke with 125 bar reg pressure. I hope its because of low press setting ang not the gun itself. Or maybe its me is the problem ha ha ha. Thank you again from Philippines.
