I was able to test out the new H&N Heavy Slugs with my Impact MK2, 600mm slug liner. These new slugs are huge for a .22 calibre. There are 34, 36, 38 and 40gr.
I tested them out at 50 yards and got great results considering I just did a preliminary test by raising my Reg pressure from 115 to 125 BAR only. I shot these slugs between 735 - 835 fps. I understand these slugs prefer to go faster, so I will try them out at higher speed 850-950fps next time out.
But so far I was very impressed and surprised that my Impact shot the .217 size at 50 yards with a 1/2" group in the wind! With more adjustments and tuning I am confident I can do better with tighter groups and stretching the distance out to 100 yards on my next outing.

Thanks Chris. I will be testing the middle and higher speed with these slugs when I get more samples. I will push them 850 and 950 fps if possible to see if these 34 & 36gr would hold better groups.

Why do you shoot them so slow ? 950-1000 would be more adequate I think . I baight 1000 of those in 25 caliber , im really hoping to group sub moa .

I was just testing the new heavy with my current setup at the time to see how they would perform at slower speed. And they do group well at 50 yards with 800fps. I will be doing more tests with higher reg pressure to see how they group at faster speed. Thank you for watching.

Slugs like speed, and the higher speed helps keep them stable in flight. Any slug will perform best between 900 to 1000fps. On average 950 to 1000 groups the best. Also with these heavy slugs it's a must to use the STX heavy slug liner. I have a friend who personally knows and shoots with Gerhard (Air hunter Gerhard). Gerhard went to H&N and helped develop these slugs. He usually shoots them between 950 to 1000fps. Nice video though.

Super cool messing with these guns because I too have the MKII 700mm .22 and mine prefers the .216” because the .217” are really tight closing the breech so it’s obviously a tighter lead.. here’s what I’ve found, the superior liner is 1:24 twist and the 700mm slug liner A I bought has a 1:15 twist (everyone says slugs like speed and to be spun faster) then on top of it the superior heavy in 700mm .22 is 1:16 very close to slug liner A) but the 25.39g knockouts fly remarkably better from the slower twist rate superior liner.
@ARP-airriflepestings
@ARP-airriflepestings Год назад
Ya, all barrels are different and they prefer different sizes of ammo as well. I have the slug A since day one and it seems to work fine for me with the H&N gen 2 25gr slugs. Maybe I should try a different liner. My Impact is 600mm.

@@ARP-airriflepestings I was out testing today and tuned to 930 FPS with the JSB Knockouts, power wheel on 4 and hammer spring about 2-3 turns back from tight and front valve seemed to tube well around 2-3/4 lines. That’s with the slower twist superior. Hey it can’t hurt for you to try another liner and see what that slower twist will do. Keep us posted good luck

My FX Maverick FAC .25 is pushing 33gn Apolo slugs (yes ONE L) washed/lubed & weight checked at 1050fps & 65 ftlb. At 50 yds its pellet on pellet, without the need for a slug liner. I suggest you increase the power settings & try the Apolo's from Ihunter. Happy days..

I would try lighter slugs in .217, and get the larger ones in .218 just to test. It seems to be the way to go for impacts.

Can you shoot 34-40 grain slug in Slug liner A , 600 mm barrel ? Or you should prefer superior heavy liner .22 ?

@ARP-airriflepestings

So far they do with the Orion's insert. I just need to adjust the spring tension so the 40 gr slugs will rotate better. But 34 and 36 gr will be my focus as I don't need to shoot anything heavier than that. I don't want to crank up my reg too high to risk damaging the internal.

yes I know. I was just testing them at my current setting during the filming of this video. I have since increased the reg and hammer spring to shoot a bit faster. My prefer slug weight is 23gr for my purpose as I don't need anything higher than that. Maybe when I do some coyote shooting then I might choose the heavier slugs.
