FX30 VS a6500 | IS THE FX30 BETTER AT LOW LIGHT AND ISO HANDLING? (Video Test) 

Hey Tony, based on this test, I gather for usable footage, you would not go above ISO 4000? as ISO 5000 and above seems to be a huge difference. What are your thoughts?

@@inbetweenintervals8989 in the grand scheme a little bit of grain can be desired, but I'm my opinion, and I'm most cases you do want your footage as clean as possible. I have learnt to gauge approximately what would be acceptable for professional services such as stock video sites, and I would say with these two cameras that you could run ISO 5000 though some De-noise software like topaz labs and still have something perfectly usable. It's not at all that 5 or 6000 ISO is dramatically worse than 4000 ISO. I would just say I'm my opinion that over 5000 wouldn't be acceptable to upload to a stock site or to submit to a client for professional work. Ultimately if you need something brighter to tell your story on RU-vid and you don't care about the grain your getting with 5k+ ISO then screw my opinion. I strive to shoot everything as if I were to re purpose it for stock so I personal will only ever be using the native ISO options on my fx30. What is your opinion. Would you take them over 5000 ISO?

Not worth, cause fx30 it’s just the same cam from alpha series 6000… line, but upgraded grey case with some functions, best for video is Sony a7siii, yeah it’s old, but all professionals still use it so

Yeah it's the 16-55. I use the Gobe pro VND on that sometimes with a 1/8 tiffen pro Myst under that. Thanks for the sub Peter

I was asking typical price. Not sure if the iPhone 14 has the RAW video capability or not but if it does I would say that the a6500 isn’t worth it anymore for you if you’re just looking to vlog some video. Honestly, the video capabilities and quality would be very similar. I think the 6500 might have a little better noise, quality and darker situations if you have a fast lens on it. Although the iPhone would be more stable footage and the a6500 doesn’t have a fully articulated screen and its battery life is atrocious in the cold. Where you’ll notice the big difference in the a6500 is its capability in post production and its photo capability’s. so unless you want a photo camera that has a nice video file I say stick with the iPhone till you can afford something like the FX30 or better. A7iv? That’s what I’m saving for right now. To be honest, I got the new iPhone 15 and I now plan on Vlogging with that and just taking video and pictures with the a6500. Ps. I sold the FX30. If you really want to get into a little more higher production to it a that 6500 would be a better bet but I don’t think it’s worth insisting in unless you already had glass and filters and all the for the Sony eco system already.

Agreed. That’s why I sold the fx30 and bought the A7iv last night! lol the fx30 was great but wasn’t really that different from the a6500.

ah, interesting, I don't understand. It seems a lot different than the a6500 in that the fx30 has a fan, dual slots, 10 bit 422, probably way better focus, better body (regarding buttons), better color science, even in your stress test scenarios the fx30 looked better up until like 16K iso. So, it seems this has everything I'm after for my mostly run and gun documentary style shooting. My biggest issue with the a6600's was overheating. The idea of two slots would be great for my main camera too. And it would be fun to learn/experiment with color grading 10 bit 422. What was the main reason you're going with the a7iv? is it just for full frame & better low light? @@TonyVsEarth

@@VeganLinked I just meant for spending another two grand those things are marginally better but the image quality wasn’t so much. I decided to spend the extra money on a full frame that can handle better ISO and more dynamic range.

Also, I would like to add that I’m still big into photography and I was missing some things with the FX 30 that’s why I chose the a7iv and not that a siii or FX 3

I have a c100 mk1 I bought it for the 1080p and I was so disappointed when the 1080p was worst than the 1080p from my a6500 . I thought I was doing something wrong so I typed in music videos filmed on the a6500 and then music videos filmed on the c100 and the a6500 music videos looked of a higher quality. Then I thought Maybe it because they filmed in 4k so I typed in a6000 music videos and then c100 music videos and even the darn a6000 quality blew the c100 out of the water 😢 I messed my money off

Honestly f 2.8 is quite a significant difference from F4. For full frame I would say it's not much of an issue in most cases, but with the apse line I personally prefer to buy f 2.8 or lower if I feel like I'm going to be using that lens indoors with organic lighting. I don't know if I would do at 4 for unless I know I'm going to have a light setup somewhere. I haven't taken the camera out of s log3 to be honest with you, but with my 16-55 f2.8 and the 800 bass ISO is pretty good with natural lighting, and then you have the second base I so if you need a little extra. I have not use 1080p once so unfortunately I can't comment on that. I sold my 70-350 to buy the FX30 and I need a second lenses well. I'm buying the Tamron 28 to 75 for full frame and using that with my a6500 camera, and will be a great starting point for when I finally go full frame. I would consider buying any full-frame lens if you do plan to upgrade to full frame camera body in the future

@@TonyVsEarth hey...I went to my local camera store and I compared my f4 to the sigma 2.8 and it cuts the ISO in half so it's a big step...I wish it was f1.8 like my Sigma 18-35mm for Canon (I thought about getting the MC-11 adapter but I think it will be too bulky)...so I decided to get the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8. I have an upcoming wedding and I will use my a6400 as a b camera so I can always use the stabilized 18-105mm f4 on that camera...My two primes Sigma 16mm (for gimbal mostly or wide shots of ceremony) and my 30mm (medium shots/close ups during wedding preparations etc) will suffice if I need them but I think I will use the sigma 18-50mm f2.8 most of the time. I use S-cinetone but with reduced saturation and less contrast. At work we have a FX6 with a nice 24-105 f4 lens and that set up is really awesome. The FX6 is almost a run and gun full frame camera-I would buy that if I had the money and enough clients to justify the expense...I would skip the FX3 and A7Siii...I used my FX30 in S-Cinetone as a B camera for an interview (the FX6 was on the guest at all time and we used the interviewer shot a few times) and they matched very well in S-Cinetone. Good lighting etc helps. I always bring lights to my gigs- 2-3 LED panels with stands. Makes a big difference for sure. Thanks for your response!

@@TheFandangovideoguygood choice, you can't go wrong with that sigma 18-50! I just can't do f4 on aps-c. I find myself without lights mostly. I find all the new small F4 Sony lenses very attractive, but I know it's just not going to be enough. I think I'm eventually going to grab a used Sony 11 prime when I can find one. Would like to see what I can get at night with that. Actually interested in testing that lense with the fx30 for astro-photography

I for sure think at the higher iso that the nose is more defined and I think that only because of the a6500's image is softer. The noise looks more like grain on the fx30. Either way we know now that you don't buy the fx30 for high noise shooting lol.

I typed in fx30 music video and I saw 2 different music videos, I was thinking wow the fx30 looks amazing. One of the music videos titled fx30 cinematic music video was actually filmed with the a6500 and the guy that filmed it said he did it for clickbait 😂😂💀💀

Really if it's a cool video its a cool video. You're camera doesn't matter when it comes to the finished product. For me it's not just what's on paper. I said it before and will say it again. I hate filming on the a6500. Maybe it's because I'm vlogging allot and I can't see myself. Or maybe it's that I live in Canada and can't get the battery to last longer then 20 min in the cold. Maybe it's that I don't have the most steady hands. For me it's that the problems I have with the a6500 don't exist with the fx30. I'll grab it any day for video over the a6500

@@TonyVsEarth when I got my fx30 I gave my a6500 to my little sister , the fx30 is better because the quality of cine ei and 4k 60 . You can get similar quality out of the a6500 as the fx30 but you have to work harder to get similar video footage that the fx30 get effortlessly.

@@boomboombaby9140 I love it when I see people make amazing videos and then I realize, "oh wow they were working with that!?" ... And they have some kind of low and camera. It just goes to show that some people put in more work. I just want to say thanks for your comments. It's comments like yours that make me think. Then I end up making videos like this and learn something new. When it comes to the quality between the two cameras you need to zoom in to see the difference, which is really not worth obsessing about. I obsess over the little details too much lol. Cheers!

I haven't made an update yet. I don't disagree with you as much as I felt like the a6500 wasn't as good as the fx30 dynamic range and quality it was minorly better. Also I sold the fx30! LOL
