It seems that's the direction. But autonomous vehicles are not cheap to build and cost a lot to maintain - maybe more than drivers, and may still have a lot of issues (accidents, riders not wanting to be in a self driving car, etc). There's also a couple of other issues... what happens in a traffic accident? What happens when the car runs out of gas or if an EV needs to charge? What happens when a car cannot assist a disabled person? And that leads me to speculate on the one thing that could ruin that... local, state or Federal (in U.S.) laws can BAN dirverless cars allowed on the road. Anything can happen... Drivers are not out... yet.

@@GeosRealTalk I think that National, State and local legislators will be the biggest barrier to the implementation of fully autonomous vehicles. If Tesla have their way a new fully autonomous vehicle will be cheap to buy and cheap to run. Time will tell, but I think we still have many years left before drives give way to autonomous vehicles. We will always need drivers to assist elderly, young and disabled riders. This will remain an essential part of any service.

@@commuterbranchline8132 it's been well documented that in spite of the autonomous vehicle (AV) companies spending millions on lobbyists, there have already been bans... last December in San Francisco the DMV banned a company. I don't see the wide adoption of the AV's and may in fact get legally banned in many areas. AS artificial intelligence increases so does the public's awareness of the dangers it poses. I would not put my life in the hands of a driverless car. I would feel trapped in there. Any glitch in the software, computer or online systems and BAM a crash. What if a whole system fails or gets hacked. Dozens, hundreds or maybe thousands of cars suddenly unable to control and then crash. NOPE. We already put a lot of faith into computers, networks and systems only to see them hacked, abused, controlled or worse. This isn't a step forward...
