I have 2 Loomis 853C and a Poison Adrena 173MH and after years of fishing both Shimano and GLoomis, I absolutely love them both and I paired my Poison with the Metanium and it’s SWEET
My favorite loomis is the conquest it’s what the nrx isn’t … number 1 it has all matching guides number 2 it has the spiral x technology number 3 a hook keeper. The poison adrena is perfection only thing i don’t like is no built in line keeper
Just to give a better insight into the "Poison" line from Shimano and JDM offerings: the Poison Glorious is the next step up, which includes spiral-x and hi-power x together. It's basically a Conquest with JDM blank taperings whereas the Conquest is Loomis specs and taperings. The Ultima is just the Glorious with the new carbon monocoque design (same that the 2019 Adrena and 2020 Zodias except better of course) and all the gucci offerings like Fuji Titanium Torzites. The NRX's, besides the blank itself, are crap. The reel seat is bad (foregrip cork splits easily if you torque it down too hard due to design), recoil guides are terrible for a lot of anglers (myself included), and just some other things here and there. I exclusively fish Conquests and GLX's (the reel seat on the 2016 GLX's fit my hand so well) for these reasons. Loomis has taken notice of all the complaints over the years, the praise they got for the Conquest, and discontinued the NRX as of 2021. A NRX+ is coming to replace it, plethora of posts on tackletour discussing this already. Recoil guides are gone, going straight torzite now like on the Conquest, looks like it'll be a REAL winner.
I'd love to get my hands on an Ultima, but I'm not forking out the money to obtain one of those jewels. I feel like the NRX lineup is pretty solid. I, for one, enjoy the recoil guides and it's a major reason why I chose to spend the money on them. The weight reduction and longevity of them sell the rod for me. I too love the GLX reel seat. I find it to be one of the most comfortable ones in the Loomis lineup.
Awesome video. After watching your video, I purchased the Shimano Poison Adrena. As you stated, it is the best bang for the buck for the price point that is compared to the NRX. I really do appreciate your honest review.
Great video. I have 2 NRX 7'3 MH and I loved them until I started collecting more Adrena, Expride, Steez, and Zeon. Like you said in the video the handle is amazing on the Adrena and I agree in the end it's the feel you get from the handle that makes that rod. If it wasn't for the blank of the NRX all the other rod would be blowing it out of the water. Today I did the unthinkable I traded my 2 NRX in for 2 Zeon rods but the way I looked at it for my reason only why keep fishing with these rods when the handle felt like crap and honestly it made me tired fishing it because of the handle. Don't know if anyone here plays Tennis but I do and there is a lot of similarities there's not just one raquect for everyone the same raquect will feel different for each player because of their swing. I think the same goes for fishing and how someone holds a rod in their hands. NRX might be the best rod in the world for person A but for person B they are going to love the Adrena and so on and so on. I can tell just by holding a rod I'll know how it's going to preform. I think sometimes we look at the price tag and it has a slight placebo effect, it has to be good if it's this much. That's why there are so many rod companies just like tennis raquects, everyone is different. Again great video.
The G Loomis NRX is the gold standard across the board and has been for over a decade and still are. A Shimano Conquest is the only other rod that I would consider to be in the same class. If you don’t get it then your better off buying a different offering. Lots of good rods on the market that are made in China.
Poison Adrena is stainless steel guides with a titanium tip guide. Even thought Shimano makes Its rods in China (don’t know about glorious or ultima though), the rod quality is still amazing. You know I don’t have a nrx or have ever handled a gloomis rod above a imx pro, but I personally think that the ultima or glorious are both a better overall rod then a nrx.
Thanks for the information about the guides. I’ve looked for the information everywhere. I’ve never handled one of the Glorious or Ultimata rods, I’ll have to get my hands on some.
So personally i think the expride is better than the poison, and it’s cheaper. But nothing will ever beat my NRX Aldebaran combo , it’s just so light and sensitive, it’s lighter than a curado k lol God i do love the way the poison looks though.
Hey Tyler this is Forest your neighbor HAHA,, just dropping in and saying hey and I'm supporting your channel and keep doing what you are doing buddy and Ill see you on the water, Ill be in my Titan so keep an eye out for me. Oh Yeah , Ive just tried some UB40 on a few of my newer rods to see what the hype is about on sealing the cork, time will tell.
I have the same 3 Adrena rods that you have and love all 3 of them. I feel the Adrena's are lighter feeling and better balanced then my 7'5" MH NRX. I love the handle on the Adrena though. It fits just like a glove. Are far as sensitivity I would have to give it to the NRX by just a tad. I like the way Adrena's load up compared to my NRX. I have only fished with the 7"5" MH NRX. I was told the 7'3" MH NRX loads up really nice or the way I prefer it. I guess it's just what you like. I agree with you for $350 these rods are truly incredible. I held a 7'4" Heavy Adrena but I didn't care for that rod. I will continue using my Dobyns for frogs and punching. Thank You for the video!!!
Sent my 73mh poison Adrena in for repair. The reel seat started shifting and twisting out of place. Once in a while, I’ll notice my reel wasn’t aligned with my rod guides and would have to twist the reel seat back into position. I put up with it for a while until the rod tip broke off at the second guide during a cast (had on a 1/4oz trig senko). I want to love the rod but for these reasons, I don’t think I’d buy another…
Dang, that sucks! I’ve been fishing them for three years now and haven’t had anything like that happen. I could understand your frustrations for sure. Nobody wants to see that happen with $350 of their money. One of the major downfalls with Shimano rods is the warranty. It’s 100% the reason why I normally buy G. Loomis if I can afford it. Still a Shimano product, but a lifetime warranty against manufacture defects.
I really like my NRX jwr-803 and the fact that G Loomis has a lifetime warranty. While i like shimano rods, Shimano is a 2 year warranty. Love Shimano reels.
Do you know the rhyme or reason behind where Loomis places the rod stats? It’s so oddly inconsistent to me as i’ve seen 853c NRXs with the stats on the blank before the reel seat between the cork as well as after the reel seat.
To be honest, I’ve never really thought about it, but you’re right they are inconsistent. I’m not sure why they do it. It could be because of the different handle types that are available. Some are split grip while others are full cork. That’s a good question.
I'm guessing Shimano USA doesn't bring in the Shimano x Jackall Poison Ultima range of rods. Those are the top range bass rods in Japan at $900+ price points. Well, Exsence and World Shauna are pretty up there in price also. Why no kistler hmx-ray range of rods? Gary Loomis highest end blanks with full Fuji titanium torzite guides @ $400-500 price point.
Nope. The only rod we have in the USA market is the Poison Adrena. I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about the JDM models. I may have to try to get my hands on one.
I’ve handled them, but I’ve never fished them. I feel like they would be an awesome rod for drop shots or shaky heads. I hope they make a 7’+ version of that rod this year
That G loomis is good rod but just so big marketing !Asrena is very very good rod !J always go with adrena! Many people bay g loomis because he is very expensive and they think ,if some is expensive that must be good !But adrena for that money stay together with the best rods
I don’t know why everybody thinks the NRX are so good IMO they are garbage for the price and so overrated. I had a few and sold them. The adrena is WAY better than the NRX. Shit my zodias are as sensitive as my garbage NRX rods were
Recoil guides are so 2010. For the price NRX costs, it should use a titanium micro guides with a torzite insert, not some old ass tech that everyone has abandoned year ago.
The nrx + they have the coil guides on that rod to me it’s so sad they put them on that rod cheap not for me because a $600 rod I buy a mega bass rod then a nrx +
I’d like to see a review of the Kistler Helium / ZBone and how those stack up to the NRX and Poison Adrena. I’ve heard the Kistler Helium is the best bang for the buck when they’re running one of their 30% discounts you can snag one for $230.
I wouldn’t be a good resource for that review. I’ve never fished a Kistler rod in my life and I’m partial to Loomis/Shimano, so It would be tough to stay unbiased. If I find one of those rods a person I know owns, I’ll compare them.
I have a Helium that is a 7’3” 5 power. It is my frog rod but I can’t stand it because it is so tip heavy and will kill my forearms. I live about 20 minutes from their shop so I picked up a previous year’s Zbone for $250 and you really can’t beat getting Torzite for that price. It’s a little tip heavy but it’s so light so it doesn’t even really matter. It is a 6’9” LMH power rated 1/8-3/4 and it’s my jerkbait rod and I have it paired with a Scorpion mgl. Their rods are built incredibly well, he even bends the blanks as if you were high-sticking a fish, so I haven’t had breakage issues. I recently picked up a Megabass P5 super destroyer and it is so well balanced and ultra sensitive. They have one called the Xbites which you could compare to the NRX 873 CRR. I love Shimano reels but I’m not a fan of Loomis because I feel like they don’t have much power.
NFiltr8Red I agree 100% about the line up. Especially on the spinning side it’s lacking a lot. I need a 7’+ medium heavy spinning rod. It’ll be sweet if they ever come out with one.
if i was gonna drop 350 on a poison rod i would instead grab a legend elite or legend x from st croix .. you cant compair the warrenty the quality torzite guids the list goes on also st croix are made in usa
Well done! Crystal clear. I have a Adrena 76XH but will be selling it. I find it hard to fish with the thing spelled out "made in China" on the blank. Probably cost $20 bucks to make with child labor. So going all american - Loomis and St. Croix. The Loomis resale value and warranty is too hard to ignore.
I fish both Adrena and Nrx and bang for the buck the Adrena wins all day every day. If you fish braid to floro leader you will hate the thud and it hits the re coil guides. If Loomis changed the guide train over to full Sic titanium then it would be a truly special rod.As for sensitivity a very small edge to Nrx but nrx is a one trick pony Adrena far more versitle.
I don't mind the sound the line makes going through the recoil guides. It is different and can be alarming, but it's no different to me now than the sound the DC reels make. I like knowing that if I hook the recoil guides on something they will spring back into place. I use my NRX rods for bottom contact fishing mostly and can tell a difference in the sensitivity there. However, as you mentioned, it's not beating the adrena by much. They are both excellent rods, but I agree with you...bang for the buck is Poison Adrena...

The Rods I have are the redesigned rods that were introduced to the US market at ICAST in 2019. They are one piece rod blanks, whereas the JDM models previously had a removable handle. As far as I know, the US version only comes in one piece.
You’re going to get a better warranty with the GLX. I gave both and love them both equally. Comparing them I’d say the match up quite well. Price point is a little different obviously, but if warranty is a big deal to you, go GLX.
@@OnAnotherLine Thanks for the reply! Much appreciated! And sensitivity? You had said the NRX is more sensitive than the adrena, would you say the GLX is equal in sensitivity to the Adrena?
My 7’2 H adrena broke today from dragging a bass out of heavy weeds, used less than 2 weeks. I bought it thru ebay because all the authorized local dealer are closed due to the COVID and now Shimano won’t take it back:c
I run a conquest and the new posin adrena for $209 msrp $370 is a big peace of shit.. i hated mine after 5 cast and sold it... they are way to short. U can't cast worth shit with them
