These guys are special. Not only are they young, but they are also ancestors of the Maori. They try to spread the word of the Maori culture. There's an excellent documentary on RU-vid made by Vice about this band. They're more than just another metal band, they have things so prove and say! :) I'm Glad you reacted to them, please make the world more aware of the Maori culture!

Great reaction! Glad you guys liked it! The language they're singing in is the Maori language. Kai Tangata means 'Eater of Men', or 'Cannibal', because of the tradition of eating your enemy to insult them.

I would like to introduce you to three boys from New Zealand, Lewis De Jong (guitar/vocals), Henry De Jong (drums/vocals) & Ethan Trembath (bass/vocals) At the time this video was done Lewis & Ethan were 16 & Henry was 18. They have won so many awards, but their most prized achievement was playing at Wacken Open Air Festival. They achieved this goal when they played on the Wasteland Stage in 2018 (Henry was 18, Lewis & Ethan were 16). The reviews of that festival praised these 3 boys as one of the top acts to play that year & the best to ever play on the Wasteland stage. They formed the band when Lewis was 8 & Henry was 10 in 2010. I believe Ethan joined the band in 2012 when he was 12. I would suggest "Ru Ana Te Whenua" with the closed caption turned on. The rhythm of the song makes a whole lot more sense if you understand what they are singing. So many other reactors have not done so & are very confused by the rhythm. I would also suggest "Hypocrite", the video is in english & shows how young they were when they did this song. Lewis & Ethan were 12 & Henry was 14. If you really enjoy this band, might I suggest that you take a look at some of the documentaries done about them, because of their youth, their talent & their use of the Maori language. Love the reaction and the song title means eat people. The language is the native people of new Zealand who are called the Maori n they speak Maori. The haka is a way to enhance your spirit used for different occasion but each haka has a different meaning. Keep up the good work boy 🔥

I believe that Kai Tangata means Eat People. If memory serves, in one battle against a vastly superior British (technology and out numbering them somewhere in the numbers of 2x or 3x the Maori). The British lost most of their soldiers (about 200 - 2000 Depending on accounts) and withdrew. The Maori lost less than 50.

Even loved when the bro got up and had to do his own little haka haha A fun thing about waiata (songs) in te reo Maori (the Maori language) are they are a centre of our oral tradition. For example the chisel of Mataora that is mentioned is the chisel used for the first ta moko (tattooing) and the warrior's belt tattoo is mentioned in this song. That then links to the overall story of modernised warfare vs traditional warfare. The main badass in this story, Hongi Hika, is the man who went to England and got muskets. So when he came back shit got real and we even hear reference in this song to utu (revenge/balancing of acts/reparation) - basically 'you killed and ate my friends and family, so guess what's going to happen now that I have these guns?' As well as references to Tumatuaenga (the atua/god of war) and kaitangata (man eater) which is a very nuanced and old term. Anyway, just thought I'd join a few of the dots in the video! Ka pai te mahi!!

Fun reaction. This song and video are epic. These guys are great. At the time they did this video they weren't even all adults yet, had been creating metal for half their lives, and played in some of the most prestigious festivals in Europe. Good stuff all around. I don't know if I'd call it funny, but most people who react to Pisces live session end up laughing. After that, they just released a video today called Sit Stay Roll Over live in Melbourne that is fire (Jinjer are from Ukraine but sing in English, mostly). Cheers!
