In my Reflex Low Latency video I said that it makes no sense to use that feature when you also have a frame rate limiter active.
This raised the question how you can combine Reflex Low Latency and a G-Sync monitor which requires the use of an frame rate limiter.

Thank you (Danke!) so much Chris for your work! Exceptional quality in terms of testing approach and results, level of details provided, and clarity to make everything easy to understand and to apply. I believe all gamers in the world should see your videos, not only to improve their gaming experience but also for education purpose. I guess you would not be against that! ;-) My take away is that your "Essentials" and your "Smooth" profiles could now be merged into a single profile for further simplification purpose. All settings can be the same except for the frame rate limiter value you will want to use. To start with, set it a little below your monitor max frame rate (in the global tab) and check if you have a smooth experience (as per the Essentials profile approach). Reduce it a little further (in the game specific tab) until your experience is as smooth as you want to have it for the games you play and which deserve to be finetuned (as per your Smooth profile approach)

The complexity with how all these features work together in tandem is really confusing. Just fiddling with it myself, as a developer in a different field, has my head spinning at how many variables there are at play. And as an end user its almost impossible to figure out what's happening at a granular level, at least, without resorting to a video like this. So Reflex is a welcome step in the right direction to give the end user more control over the experience they themselves desire from their machines.

Hi Chris, great video, thank you for the efforts ! - I have a question: - When in game, could the cpu time and gpu time be used as indicators that system is currently cpu or gpu bound? - As example: when cpu time is greater that gpu time, I assume that would indicate cpu bound scenario, and vise versa... - So for me, I aim to have the cpu and gpu time the same, assuming that would be the most optimized setup for my system. - Your comment would be appreciated, thank you.

Could I request how microphone background noise suppression software (to remove keyboard clacks, mouse clicks, etc when chatting in game) such as RTX Voice and Discord's Kirsp AI affect input latency? I've been researching for a while now, but I still dont udnerstand why exactly it is adviced to enable V-sync to begin with alongside g-sync. It seems that you use it, so you dont have to use an fps limiter like RTSS, if I understand that correctly. What I don't quite understand is: do you have slightly less input lag (total) with gsync + v-sync off + RTSS compared to Gsync + vsync + NO RTSS. Do you even need RTSS in the later? Hope you could finally clear things up. Thank you in advance! (I use 144hz gsync monitor). According to "jorimt"'s 101 guides on blurbusters it is faster when v sync is off, still he recommends explicitly to turn it ON. I'm confused.

You always say to use In-Game frame rate limiters.. but I always find that the games I play have terrible frame times if I use the in-game ones. I've just been sticking to RTSS since Nvidia can't figure out how to make their settings apply on the fly. Any plans to cover having Multiple G-Sync monitors? I have so many issues with G-sync that I just leave it off. Listening to music or playing a video on the other monitor causes my game to lower it's FPS down to that Video/Animation on the other screen. Also affects my mouse cursor smoothness.

Can you make a video how to adjust g-sync and reflex correctly in Apex Legends? I have a weird problem when I turn on v-sync (same thing happens when I turn it on in the drivers or in the game) my framerate is locked to 162 while my monitor refresh rate is 170hz. It's a Acer Predator with native 144hz that has a factory overclock option to 160, 170 and 180hz so that's why I run this unconventional refresh rate. This was happening even before Reflex weas introduced to Apex.

I noticed one thing, the reflex mode in mode (boost) on the CRSED foad game, I have small lag and in mode (enabled) more lag, to test on other games. My base Gpu is OC and stable. What does the boost mode really bring and what power saving setting does it disable? if it's like the setting in the Nvidia config panel: Manage 3D settings and set the Power Management Mode to maximum performance, I noticed that in a lot of situations it brings stuttering in game, leaving it as default (optimized power) has always been a better option and much more stable in most titles.
@benfr2744
@benfr2744 3 года назад
ok I found the answer to my question in fact the reflex boost mode does exactly the same thing as in the control panel, 3D settings and switches the power management mode to maximum performance. (on the Nvidia website) Prefer Maximum Performance The NVIDIA graphics driver has long shipped with an option called “Power Management Mode”. This option allows gamers to choose how the GPU operates in CPU-bound scenarios. When the GPU is saturated with work, it will always run at maximum performance. However, when the GPU is not saturated with work there is an opportunity to save power by reducing GPU clocks while maintaining FPS. Similar to the Low Latency Boost feature in the Reflex SDK, the Prefer Maximum Performance mode overrides the power savings features in the GPU and allows the GPU to always run at higher clocks. These higher clocks can reduce latency in CPU-bound instances at a tradeoff of higher power consumption. This mode is designed for gamers who want to squeeze every last microsecond of latency out of the pipeline regardless of power. With GeForce RTX 30 Series GPUs, we are able to set this clock value higher than before, allowing the GPU to target the absolute lowest render latency possible when CPU-bound. Users with older GPUs can still turn on Prefer Maximum Performance and hold clocks to base frequencies.

Feel like its a little different on 240Hz though.. except for CSGO almost nothing reaches my refresh rate, so i barely need a frame limiter, and if it does exceed it, im in the competitive scenario, and tearing is not that visible on 240hz anyway. on a sidenote though, what games do you frame limit? everything that has bad enough frametimes that i would wanna limit it, also runs so unstable that i cant find a good spot. like warzone for example: most of the time100fps, but sometimes as low as 60..if i cap it at 60ish, im missing out on the few moments where frames are actually good, and when i cap it higher the drops still kill me....reflex could be really nice in that situation, but i almost feel it replaces any scenario where i would limited my frames before.

Never enable vsync through the game, it will give more input delay

@@m2u526 specifically modern warfare or any because Battle(non)sense suggested the exact opposite... With a Gsync monitor I mean.

@@m2u526 Yeah, but few milliseconds at most. Not noticable and prevents screen tearing.

For modern warfare, turn on VSync in the NVCP instead of in-game.

Could you test RLL in Modern Warfare? They just added it, and it feels fine, but knowing Infinity Ward I don't really trust that it is working as intended. Also, it doesn't cap the framerate at/below my monitor's refresh rate.

I have also tested it and on GTX 1080 i can literally feel the decreased input latency without any measurement. It may actually work better on Cod MW because they probably have some shitty stuff in render code that were adding extra input latency that reflex may be fixing. And antialiasing on that game is TERRRIBLE

@@Navhkrin I also have a gtx 1080, it does feel pretty good in MW with RLL but i was already capping my framerate with RTSS so the frametimes arent as smooth and consistent as before but it may be more responsive (although i cant really tell the difference). However i did notice my gpu gets to 99% with RLL+boost on in-game so I wasn't sure if it was still working. and yeah i just play with no AA although there is aliasing and artifacts from the shadows. and turn off SSR if you arent using the last AA option or there will be a ton of noise in the reflections
