It would have been a good idea to show what those Blackmagic scores were after your test, as it would have shown the video resolutions and bit rates in each case. Simply saying it can handle 4K editing is a bit like saying ‘this camera shoots good quality video!’

4k ProRes footage is only 50-100 MB/s. This drive can handle 4x that. It'll work

I'm gonna say something possibly stupid.. What about this idea.. the 2TB drive is more than double the price of the 1TB.. If you have 2 USBC ports free, why not buy 2 of the 1TB, and in mac os create a raid 0, 2TB volume? Isn't it possible this would get close to 1000mb/s in that case? I am just thinking, cause i have the caldigit thunderbolt 3 hub which has 2 usb C ports on it.. and still leaved the daisy chain thunderbolt 3 port free. I might have to be the guinea pig for this one.. try as I might, besides flash drive experiments, i can not find any videos of anyone raiding multiple usb3/C or even two thunderbolt drives on separate ports.. Anyway, just an idea.. and save a bit of money too.

Nice review. I disagree with cable size though. I prefer it long so you can easily plug it in to a desktop or laptop with room to place it. Can easily keep it portable by having a long cord and a Velcro tie wrap.

Any reason to get a larger physical size external SSD and not smaller external SSD with same storage capacity and performance? Their new G-Drive Armorlock Ssd model is signifocantly larger than this small G drive yet the speed is same and same ruggedness too, just with hardware encryption, there's many small external SSD with thunderbolt speed too, why that G-Drive Armorlock has to be so big, I like yellow color and I like that Armorlock design a lot, try to justify to get it instead of smaller drive and especially i use it for personal file storage and work too and don't need the drive sharing encryption feature

Great video. If you are using MacOS High Sierra, do you format your external SSD as APFS? I'm curious if the disk format affects performance and TRIM support. Thanks.

Hi, Thanks for this video. I've ordered a 2T version to my son for Xmas, the problem is that he has a 2014 MacBook Pro, having only Thunderbolt 2 and regular USB (stated USB-3) connections. Questions: have you tested its transfer speed over regular USB, or, can we somehow connect is to Thunderbolt 2? Anyones's reply is highly appreciated in advance :-)

Ok so basically it's the same speed as a T5.. but is also the same price at the apple store as a T5 with same capacities.. But this looks better.. I like the idea of accidental shock protection.. But the question has to be asked.. do you reckon there can be overheating issues in a device like this, where it's so "sealed"? I mean it is water proof after all! Surely it would get too hot? Are you able to see the drive temps via smart? Cheers

My friend bought this exact same drive and instead of it showing 500 or 466gb (give or take) it shows 3.79gb. Any ideas on whats wrong?

That does sound quite low. Maybe try it on a different system just to troubleshoot.

@@geekanoids I stayed up last night with a two other friends and we finally found out it had already been partitioned. We got it sorted out thanks for the comment. I think someone had previously had that ssd and returned because of whatever reason. That or it just came out of the box messed up.

@@jackoneal3558 No I didn't, with the help or two friends on discord we found out that the ssd had to be unpartitioned. If you go into the ssd property's you have to make all the space unallocated.

I have bought this drive to use with my Macbook pro but i regret buying it allready ! You can eject this drive at anytime you want even when playing audio or video from it it will just disconnect while playing if you ask it to? With all my regular external drives or thumb drives they tell me it is in use and can not be disconnected. If anybody has a solution please tell me cause their own support doesn't know !

Just got mine and it easily disconnects; the port does not hold the connector snugly Read write speeds are nowhere near what is claimed. Maybe a bad drive, it's going back to Amazon.

Battery is working out fine, still showing full capacity, 1.5 days between charges.
