Fun fact: the G35 was used as a test mule when Mizuno's team was developing the GTR. They stuck a prototype VR38 and revised Attesa AWD system in a widebody G35 and hurled it around the Nordschleife with a 997 Turbo chase car as a benchmark.
@@mrmystery8484 sorry, I'd love to but I don't know where to even begin to find it. It was in the car section of a Japanese newspaper a decade ago in 2013 when I was in Japan. Kazutoshi Mizuno had just left Nissan and they did an interview with Mizuno-san where he talked about the development of the car. He also talked about how he had to drive at high speeds in the prototype himself in the middle-east because it wouldn't be a good look from the Japanese public if they hired a test driver to do it and they got injured in an accident. And how he thinks Japanese brands are getting complacent with Toshiba, Sony, Toyota, Honda etc., being overtaken by Korean brands like Samsung, Kia, and Hyundai. Something like that. He also talked about the development of the brakes and suspension of the GTR but I can't remember any of the specifics.
@@helicocktorI was actually about to comment something similar to this. I have heard the story about that, but did you know the G35 was advertised as the skyline in Japan? The engine in the R35 was designed based off the VQ’s, so it would only be natural for them to sound similar, especially if you throw turbos on a VQ.
@@hadymon0301 agreed, VQs sound very much alike. Lovely machines. I am from Malaysia and for some reason you could get both the V35 Skyline and Infiniti G35s. Infiniti is seen as a more luxurious Nissan, how Lexus is to Toyota. Probably just trim differences though. Skylines have always been normal cars, started during the Prince era before the Nissan merger. It's the GT-R nameplate that's special. From the 70s C210 to the mid-80s R31 generation, the oil crisis era, Nissan didn't make GT-Rs but they still made Skylines. In the early 2000s I had a classmate whose uncle had a GT-T R34 sedan with the single turbo RB25. 5 speed with the HICAS steering but it was RWD with an LSD. Used to take us for rides after school. Fun times. Back then in my country JDM culture was in full swing due to Japanese influence. There were 2 famous hilly roads at Ulu Yam and Genting near Kuala Lumpur that locals would do touge sprints (some of us still do but the culture has died down). Even my dad had a stock Supra for about a year when I was 8-9, but it was the 4 speed auto, and I remember my mom being very angry about having to fit a family in a coupe 😂.
@@static_Tricolor_camry I think u can always get a rebuilt. theres a reputable company that sells already built auto trans and manual trans from cores I forget the company but their logo is blue and yes is for the g35 and g37
@@Kyle_gallegher Yeah or just do an engine swap from an IS300 or a 2JZ-GTE the G35's already have a 6 Speed shifter linkage so it's easier for the transmission swap.
@@static_Tricolor_camryI got a 2004 g35 coupe 6mt looks almost identical to this one with 139k, 5/16 plenum, z1 stage 2 clutch and flywheel, and a bunch more mods for sale in the PA/NJ/NY area
@@finiccyfiniccy2053Depends how you define "fast". Fast compared to other cars around the same era, price and style? Does the job. Fast compared to a supercar? No.
@@finiccyfiniccy2053You forget that a stock Supra that was overhyped for years from fanboys only pushed 300 horsepower from the factory meanwhile a 2005 G35 Rev Up Manual is pushing 298 horsepower before mods and tune. Not comparing the two engines just saying you can make anything fast depending how deep your pockets are.
Sounds like my Altima 3.5 coupe. Tuned, straight pipe, no res or mufflers. Want to do that do my G37 but I might go with an IRS, powerhouse amuse or motordyne not 100% sure yet. Hell might do all and see what I like the best.
Hey bro, i've got a stock q60 coupe 3.7s & I want to start a build. I loved that godzilla sound in the video. May I know what turbo & exhaust setup you installed ?
i just recieved my motordyne catback and i already had my motordyne longtubes sitting in my room for while however i dont believe it will give it this type of sound did you have a turbo in it at the time of recording of this vid HElp a brother out this thing sounds insane
A g35 is def not a small car none of the japs coupés are small regardless of the Japanese company making it those japs boys are up to no good in them hills 😂🎉
Yeah so the problem with the VQ platform is the headers, you can make a VQ sound like a GTR with turbos or slap long tubes on it and you’ll have your own tone. The shorties that come stock on the car I don’t believe are equal length but… we all know they were forced to put the catalytic converters as close to the engine as possible for emission laws… so we got shorty headers. Yay. 😒
Only if you dont love it, would definitely not recommend if the car is your daily like mine, i have a fully modified exhaust and sometimes its just a little much but i love it at the end of the day, would definitely appreciate i quiet relaxed daily tho lol
