Do you think the G6 with its 52-calibre barrel can rival modern wheeled self-propelled howitzers and truck-mounted howitzers in the international market? Also India had signed a deal with Denel in the 90s and early 2000s regarding the development of track based SPH for the Indian army using a modified T-6 turret of Denel-G6 Rhino. Earlier proposed on an existing M-46 130mm catapult variant upgrade model, later the Arjun Mk1 Chassis was choosen for this project called "Bhim self propelled howitzer". The gun is also a modified 155mm based on G-5. Unfortunately due to scandals and many controversial allegations, The deal was cancelled and Denel was blacklisted , and removed from that list recently.

Hello Weapons detective. New Suggestion. Could you please make a Video on the 9K31 Strela-1 / NATO Codename:- SA-9 Gopher? It is a short range SPAAML based on the chassis of a modified BRDM-2 recon vehicle , armed with 4 9M31 solid fuel , IR/Heat seeker guided Surface to air missiles. It is the predecessor of the now dating 9K35 Strela 10 SPAAML / NATO code name:- SA-13 Gopher , which is based on a modified MT-LB chassis. Romania also has a licensed variant called CA-95SPAAML based on TABC- 79 APC. The Srela-1 is still in use by many countries like Russia (Naval infantry), Serbia, India , Cuba , Mongolia Romania, Syria, Yemen, Ukraine and so on. I have already uploaded many video materials with links in them. Please do check them .

An additional interesting fact, pre the formal introduction of the G6,s in to the SADF in 1989) was that the initial 4 prototypes ( 1 broke down so only 3 were deployed) saw action in 1987 already during operation Hooper and was instrumental for bombing the airfield at Cuito Canavale which effectively limited the effectiveness of the Angolan airforce. This rare opportunity to use the prototypes in actual combat, assisted the SADF to make significant improvements to the final product. Ironically the border war ended in 1989 and the G6 was never used by the SADF in combat ever again.

You are absolutely correct! I saw a couple videos a year or two back where a bunch of black SA mechanics in uniform were standing around a truck needing something done to it and some fat black officer was whining about lack of parts and knowledge. I just laughed my ass off, SA uses common civilian engines so parts are everywhere and affordable. You’ll notice you won’t find a white SA soldier in any of their units since we all know why. I looked a some satellite pics of the SA bases and saw armored vehicles scattered everywhere near the motor pool. The Cubans made a deal to teach those idiots how to fix radios, vehicles and some medical equipment in exchange for something they wanted. I can’t imagine how screwed up the SA Air Force must be since the average IQ of a black person there is 65. Did you notice in this video how for the parades, the G6’s were all on the back of a trailer? Every wonder why they don’t just drive them through the parade route? They winched them onto the trailers for the parades. Such a waste of great technology by giving them to a bunch of primates.

SA's issue was not with the Angolan Army - the issue was SWAPO who moved their bases to Angola after they encountered resistance from the SA police who, at the behset of Namibian villagers investigated murders of villagers. It escalated and the SA Army got involved. FAPLA had an issue with UNITA who were pro western. Cuba decided to intervene and send an estimated 60 000 soldiers to help FAPLA. UNITA was supported by SA with hardware. FAPLA had unlimited supply of Russian weapons, technologically advanced compared to what SA had. SA had no intention or ambition to invade Angola -- that is a BS story. If Cuba stayed out of it and Angola did not Harbour terrorists things would have been very different.

@@Joshua_N-A Surface navies are very vulnerable and expensive but nevertheless are important to deter, weaken and defeat invasions by hostile expansionist powers. Australia does need to concentrate more on less vulnerable naval assets like submarines and more lower cost but capable surface vessels that utilise long range stealthy anti ship missiles as well as anti air and anti submarine capabilities. The air force is also important and needs to follow a similar path of reducing vulnerability to larger powers. Platforms and weapons need to become more diffuse so that they are more difficult to counter. The army must be able to take on large mechanised forces as well as counter insurgency and everything in between. Ukraine has shown how to fight asymmetrically, and accurate and mobile artillery with good targeting and situational awareness provided by drones and other means such as radar and satellites is the right path for Australia's army.

In a comparison between G6 and more modern 155mm Howitzer systems I am convinced that G6 will outperform any wheeled or tracked system cross country in the Arabian Desert or on typical Southern African terrain. Regarding fire power we must compare the G6 Losvoor system with existing foreign systems. Losvoor never went into production as such, but that technology has been incorporated in the German PHZ 2000 firing the South African Assegaai 155mm ammunition system. Thus, to determine how a modern 52 calibre G6 would perform during firing, refer to PHZ 2000 specifications.

Most of the Angolan border War was actually off road. South Africa has had a lot of problems with border conflicts and usually they need to cover large distances quickly. Wheeled vehicles provide a larger range generally speaking vs tracked and the terrain doesn't particularly require a tracked vehicle to traverse. They usually have a faster off road speed and much faster on road speed vs tanks. They can quickly deploy to the conflict and relocate quickly once there in these low intensity conflicts. They also require somewhat less maintenance vs tanks. Really a brilliant vehicle for fighting insurgents and rebels.

@@beachboy0505it was always a war where close ground support would be key. Yes the SAAF lost air superiority, but it was not to Cuba's pilots, but rather to the USSR's advanced SAM systems. A SAM is absolutely useless against artilery shells, which could be lobbed from the G5/6 at great distances, often with better accuracy than what a fixed wing aircraft could provide.

We were in the 'deurgangskamp' as relief troops for those that fought Moduler, positioned in Angola close to Rundu. While there, the G6's, 32 Bn and others camped very close to us, returning to base after operation Moduler. One G6 had a twisted barrel. From what we were told, the G6's was the most mobile vehicles in the deep sand. We were told the could comfortably drive 50-60 km/h through thick bush in heaven sands. One 32 Bn Ratel had a direct hit with a rpg7 on the front window. Halve thickness of the glass, which is multilayered and cm's thick, was blown away and the remainder deformed in a bubble on the inside by the heat of the projectile. It did not penetrate the vehicle. Absolutely incredible sight, how close they were to death. If that rpg struck anywhere else, it would have gone through like a hot knife through butter. The other Ratel was struck by a mortar on top, next to the front window. The metal was deformed like an elastic membrane, stretched, with a point load somewhere on the membrane. The shrapnel from the mortar exploding on top of the rRatel, next to the main front window, sandblasted the front window that you could hardly see through it. Also a very close call. Shortly after this, we flew in to Masvingo to replace the troops due for relief.

I was in charge of Kwevoelsnes(The gate where the traffic passed. In short we called the base : Die Hek or "The Gate")RIGHT on the "Rooilyn" or red line between Rundu and Grootfontein in 1987. I got an order to just swing open the gates and leave them be until further instructions...We couldn't understand why and the road was DEAD still for the whole day until...I first heard it and then I saw the aura of MASSIVE lights from Grootfontein. Now remember,we had NO clue. I wasn't even trained and was a special in Jumbo de Villiers police gang. That "other" police. I figured why must the RSA brave young men die while I watch. I was a rebel at school and everything was girls, rugby and athletics. Got SWA cravenweek and was SWA champ in triple jump but things were not good at home. My dad asked the Koevoet legend if he had a place for me and Jumbo said LET'S GO! So later on it was clear to us this was an HUGE army contingent and it became clear why W/officer Jumbo said to ask no questions and leave the gate open. The high spirits of the SAA was something I will NEVER forget! I was so proud and just stood still at that gate saluting every vehicle that passed. 12 Elephant tanks on low beds passed and 2 or 3 G6's. I CLEARLY remember telling Sargeant Chitti this scary thing kinda looks like a rat! The salutes from the young soldiers I'll NEVER forget and tears were in my eyes wishing I could join. This was the start of "Ops Moduler". Little did we know what hell would be let loose by these BEST IN THE WORLD warriors! It was one of the proudest days of my life! "ONS VIR JOU SUID AFRIKA" I still miss my black colleagues until this day and will NEVER forget my jogging competition buddy Pasquales's goodbye words : "Fanie, may the road you walk in life be a beautiful road." I miss you buddy...😪😪😪I often pray for those guys. I went back to school and made my matric in Swakopmund after everything. It was an HONOR to serve my country for a little while in my limited capacity. Something NOBODY can take away from me. Thank you Jesus for making me a PROUD Boer. Love you all. ♥️🇿🇦🕊️👏🏻👌🏻
