Look into CDI- Certified Deaf Interpreters. They are facing an ASL translator and changing the dialogue to more localized signs. They themselves are Deaf.
Was the black lady also an interpreter? The man looked liked he expected to switch with someone else, but the big white guy might have been blocking an easy transition of interpreters. The interpreter was smart to simplify the word "epidemiologist" to "sick + research + person" ASL has a refreshing simplicity when expressing less-used words and I often find myself more easily understanding complicated words by watching interpreters break it down into simpler parts
This is the dream Wubu Foundation Deaf Children Development International, want for Interpreters at the Liberia National Association of Sign Language Interpreters.
