Technically, Gabe did exactly what he was told "put the bag of fries in here". Very concrete response but I still had to giggle. And he definitely has a typical teenage boy's enthusiasm about cooking 😂
@Kessik8
@Kessik8 Год назад
From my experience, he didn't even mean to be funny, he just took that literally. It's hard for me to understand things when they are not precise enough. I'm autistic too. I am also often accidentally hilarious to people around me. I think that's good. I like it when people are happy.
@itsadogslife65
@itsadogslife65 Год назад
@@Kessik8 That's exactly what I meant. 😊 There was no "pour the contents of the fries out of the bag into the air fryer", just "put the bag of fries in here" which is exactly what Gabe did. A very concrete response.

Seeing him dump the whole bag rather than just the contents took me back to when my daughter was making a banoffe pie with my friend and my friend said "so now we put the banana on top of the pie and she just picked up a whole banana in its skin and plonked it onto the pie as it was! lol She wasn't autistic. Just kinda young. lol It happens to us all at times huh. He did so good! I don't have an air fryer so I learnt something too!

Gabe is so adorable. He did so well! He should be really proud of himself. The more I watch these videos, the more it reminds me of being a kid with autism. I was the same way. What I called my "One step; walk away" routine. I'd do one step and walk away, whenever someone was teaching me something I wasn't completely focused on. I even ignored one of my teachers because her smile was always fake.

I don't think it's always that the person wasn't totally focused on or disinterested in a particular task but more along the lines of one step then walked away to process what they just did. I saw this and other "give me a second" actions with my autistic twins. And yes, you are more in tune with people's physical (body language) communications.
@chloeindigo
@chloeindigo 5 месяцев назад
I had the urge to do this but grew out of it early because I was a girl. It is because of the intensity of focus on you, how uncomfortably contrived the lesson is, the attention. If they focused on the activity itself it would be easier but they focus on the person learning the activity and it makes it harder to learn. I'm often feeling Gabe walks away because of how uncomfortably fake the spotlight of attention is. That's how it felt for me when I was young I'd just want to get the hell away from any contrived situation like my skin was crawling. Especially with people I was close to.
@2wickie686
@2wickie686 Год назад
I'm autistic and him dumping the entire thing, bag and all, into the container was a big autistic moment LOL I would've done the same exact thing as a kid, albeit with a lot more hesitation and being like "um....a-are you sure?" Probably also a minor anxiety attack as I try to decipher if it's REALLY the right step or I'm overthinking it. 😅 Also, thank you for teaching him life skills. So many people don't understand that being autistic doesn't always mean the same as being, for lack of a better word, "slow" or unable to understand anything. It's truly not the case at all and in fact there are a few autistic people who are perfectly average intelligence or even above (or just slightly below) who can very much so do everyday tasks (sometimes w/ modifications) as every neurotypical person can, including those who are mute. My niece is autistic like I am but has much higher needs and accommodation requirements, and my brother was absolutely SHOCKED when he realized I was communicating with her perfectly fine. I told him, just because it doesn't seem like she doesn't understand, doesn't mean that's true. I taught her how to play Uno and she understood it perfectly fine. The only thing I'd say is maybe give him a bit more time to do the task before repeating yourself, as I'd bet he gets brain fog just like I do haha. I take longer to process what people say to me when I'm face-to-face with them because of how autism affects sensory input, so there's a very slight delay in processing and pursuing said tasks for me most the time. :) I love seeing your beautiful family and I'm so happy Gabe has two moms who are there to help him and love him as he is.

Awww❤ Gabe I used to watch you on tik tok which I got talked into by my kids who are teens& young adults. My eldest is a nonverbal young man as well but we have always had a strong bond & majority of the time I can tell what he wants or needs. He’s gotten so tall ❤tfs I love watching Gabe & when he leans in close to your face. I think that’s sweet

Good job, Gabe, excellent! I admire how he keeps doing all steps until it's finished. And now I will check on the internet what on earth an air fryer is, that magical things seems like a fantastic cooking aid!

i apologize , i know it's is not for me to tell you what is what but i would like to express my thoughts. I'm not autistic, but i do struggle to with daily functioning, comprehension of basic tasks. But i observe and reflect a lot. In short i just really relate to the moment on 4:04 when i am asked to do something which i know how to but can't mentally comprehend the task, and the helping hand in the way is not that helping when you're taking time trying to think. But also it seems to me gabe really appreciates you taking time with him.
