A fine specimen of the forest elephant in west Africa , his coat is magnificent , black skin with no blemishes and full of awareness. Wonder of nature. Hope we will keep him and his group going for ever.
There’s a bit of a taxonomical debate on whether the African Forest elephant should belong to a prehistoric genus with the straight Tusked elephants (Palaeoloxdon) or whether it should remain the same genus as the bush elephant (Loxodonta) Also the genus Palaeoloxdon had not only the largest elephants to ever exist, but also the smallest
I honestly got to say that it makes me happy that this video is, as of now, only from 7 months ago and not from like 10 years ago. It’s just so good to know that there are forest elephants that are still alive out there🙂
@@gabonuntouched3294 yes okapi are found in dr congo, but since gabon is close to dr cong, it is possible some could have reached gabon so maybe you have seen any.

@@ZeroUs30 not really…. African Forest Elephants come from the family of Loxadonta. The scientific name for African Forest Elephants is Loxadonta Cyclotis. Straight Tusked Elephants (Paleoloxedon). They are not really related but they are Elephants
Hope you will secure all premises have some drones to protect them..build electric fences to protect them ban the trade of ivory that's how it must work...respect respect
I know that this video is for advertising but you should be more careful in showing this magnificent elephant. They are the living national treasure of Africa.
Even worse, the bull looked like it was in musth. Look closely down the elephants face and you will see a dark liquid that is running down the elephants face along with digging its tusks to the ground as a dominance sign at 0:20.
Thankyou! Yes they are! Gabon has a well stablished network of 13 protected National Parks and 4 marine reserves. A world example for wildlife conservation.
Defenetly great swimmers. In Gabón is not infrequent te see individuals or Big families crossing big laggons to reach the beach grasslands rich in mineral herbs in the wet season. Thankyou
Looks like Loango here. Spent some time in Gabon back in 2006. Loango, Lope, a couple of days at the WWF station in Ivindo (elephants, sitatunga, gorillas...great place, but difficult to access). Fabulous country. Best-kept secret in Africa.
I do hope that Gabonese are made aware that they should preserve their environment and all that dwells within it as much as possible, otherwise it will be a sad tale of slaughter and destruction.
Thankyou! Most of poaching in Gabón is coming from noethern bordering countries Camerún and Congo. Fortunately biggest remaining populations of forest Elephant live un Gabón thanks to a well stablished network of protected áreas accounting for almost 12% of its territory. The biggest together with Costa Rica.
The African rain-wood elephant’s genus name Loxodonta means slanting tooth and re means round-eared and refers to how its earsfers to the diamond-shaped ridges in its molars while its species name cyclotis means round-eared and refers to how its ears are rounder than those of the African bush or plains elephant. By rain wood, I mean a “rainforest.” By rain-wood elephant, I mean a “forest” elephant. Can you believe that?
The do not like the attitude of the man in the video. He should have stayed inside the vehicle. It is foolhardy. Confrontations between humans and wild animals may turn fatal to both.
You people? Says the Westerner thats cultures and societies that have desecrated, plundered and oppressd every inch of this Earth! You do better and leave Africa to us Africans! Free Palestine! Down with the West!
