"Gabriel Churchkitten" (1944) was made by Paramount/Famous Studios and is that rare studio cartoon to have been based on a children's book of the same title. (The author of the book was Margot Austin.) The cartoon is about the efforts of a churchmouse, Peter (voiced by Mae Questel), and a churchkitten, Gabriel (voiced by Cecil Roy), to get Parson Peaseporridge to wake up and feed them their cheese and milk, respectively. The Parson does regularly get up, but only in the act of sleepwalking. And while doing so, he does get their cheese and milk but, in his sleep, he only feeds himself. They eventually enlist the aid of a neighboring puppy named Trumpet to help them achieve their goal. It's funny today to see the feed bowls side by side reading: "Peter"..."Gabriel." Directed by Seymour Kneitel.
