The Rare Original 12" Bootleg Version of Gabrielle Dreams.
This was the first version that ever came out of this but due to Tracy Chapman Blocking its sample it never seen the light of day unfortunately.
Hopefully it wont get removed as its a real rare Soul RnB gem...
I Paid £25 for this when it first got Bootlegged !!

Was originally on the victim label. She used to come to butterfly's nightclub in oldham regularly in 1991 and sing this version live. Great track, far better than the re release remix

I'm from Oldham shame I was only 11 at the time. I never knew Gabrielle came to my home town. Butterflies is the place where my "school leaving do" was held. I guess it was for every year before and after us until the club went defunct

I heard this on a dance floor at the time. I couldn't believe it wasn't formally released. Me and my friends danced our arses off to this version. We saw Gabrielle perform this live at Derby's Pink Coconut club in a revised way. I felt a bit sad it was changed although, still a classic. This version is more truthful

Jazzie B used to play this version on his kiss fm show. Shame they didn't get sample clearance because this version is far better than the commercial release

Some comments mention this version being better and I'd agree. I'm sure the Fast Car sample could have just been taken out and the song started from about 0:20

This got a big rinse at the Toxteth blues parties, circa 1991. It was getting a lot of love but by the time it got to major label release, Tracy Chapman had blocked the sample and the version that hit no.1 was in remixed form

@@derekwilkinson688 Pete Tong used to play it all the time on the Essential Selection when it was a white label then we all know what happened. I was really surprised at the time. I thought Tracy Chapman was really cool. She would have made a lot of money out of this too. She probably wanted too much money, thinking about it.

Boyh songs have the same chord structure. Fast Car was probably an influence on Dreams.

I've got a couple of white labels of this. Sounds like this is being played fast on the Technics - Reminds me when I first got it and played it on the radio in Coventry. The switchboard lit up like a christmas tree. Choon.

Some artists don't like their music sampled but Bob Dylan did let Gabrielle sample Knocking On Heaven's Door for Rise and even Paul Weller really enjoyed her song Why which sampled Wild Wood and he re recorded his vocals for that one

What are you talking about? Van Halen had a song named 'Dreams' at least 5 years before this, and it's nothing to do with this Gabrielle song.

To be honest I prefer the other version more .. maybe cos I’m younger and only found out about this one recently .. but I think Traci chapman is a 🐄.. always acting stuck up over her songs
