Thanks for the review! Ive tried the B7 a few times and always found that it never looks as close to the tungsten lamp when at 2700K. It had a light orange/red look..it made me keep using tungsten bulbs with dimmer. These seem to reach a similar tone to a tungsten 🙏🏻
It will be very interesting if you could make a video about your DMX control for lights. There are many DMX controls for clubs, shows and DJs, but I think that you are using something special and more convenient to video lights setup.
@@adamogden6621 Have they mentioned if they plan on putting a battery in it? If they do, it will be ridiculously big and once again limit the angles it can be seen in frame from (due to the vents)
Thanks Andrew, great info as always. I've been a big fan of inverters for awhile now, starting with the Paul c. Buff units for strobes. Now using the Ryobi 150w units (avail in the US at Home Depot) for practicals and many of my my LED matts and small COBs. Quiet, quick change batteries, they've been a life changer on set.
Appreciate the review (and the hat joke). I've been on the hunt for some practical looking RGB bulbs similar to this and the b7c. The aputure is a 40w tungsten equivalent while this one is a 50w equivalent. I hope that companies can find a good solution and get one in the 100-200w tungsten equivalent in the future; I haven't been able to find a RGB bulb in that range.
Antique lamps, wherever you are, always comes in bayonet. Indeed incorporating practical lights into your scenes from the 60's 70's 80's... would require this mount? There are however adapters, its quite common here in France to find them in stores. It does raise up slightly the bulb, which can unbalance the design of the practical. I don't think the simple electrical adapter can be otherwise a disadvantage. I would also get the bayonet for versatility and use them with adapters if I need more screw in mount. I would love to hear how others would consider this...
Very similar in output, it really comes down to how you want to operate them. Aputure has built in battery. NYX has lumin radio DMX. I think it comes down to that for most people
thanks for the review!! at the moment there is no way to control the NYX directly from phone (you need the asterabox or the battery pack). we have to wait for a future update..
I have done it. If you have existing NYX globes with older firmware then you would need to borrow a asterbox to do the firmware update (a bit of a catch 22). Then after that update, you could operate them direct from the phone by using one of them in place of the asterabox. By memory (I have only done this a few times as I own the asterabox) I think you need to put the first globe in blue mode then search for an astera box in the app, and it will show up
Hi guys. Anybody knows why the bulbs are flickering sometimes? I have two bulbs set in a 50-60m away from the box, and a door between us...actually only one is flickering. The other one is shining non stop
Very informative video, thanks for sharing. Have you tried rigging 6 of these on something like the Westcott Spiderlite TD6 and use it as key light? Also, without considering anything other than brightness and colour rendition of the light running at 5600K, would you rather use Astera NYX or Aputure B7C? Cheers
Awesome content! Can the NYX bulbs be controlled using a iQ-DMX-STICK-DE3? If so would I need the ART7 ASTERABOX as well? I'm looking for a simple DMX controller for dynamic cafe interior lighting.
Does not using the art7 for the app also work with the titan tube? Planning on getting and running a single tube so it’d save a huge cost if I don’t need the art7 anymore…
Not a dumb question, I think it's a different voltage or a different connector, when my kits get back from rentals I'll take a look, because now I'm curious, especially for powering the bulbs for firmware updates.
It will be great solution if they make some for the tubes, cuz is hard to unaseamble when they are on stage or mounted on a scenario. Thanks for the replay Andrew, i just discover your reviews and love the true gaffer expirience
No mesh network, but the Astera box transmits 300m. You can put the box between you and the lights to extend the distance. So the actual distance limit is 300m plus the Bluetooth range on your phone or pad.
hey buddy, great stuff as aways, did I hear it right? can I use the bulb as a controller for my other astera lights? or do I still need the box to control my titan and Pixel tubes? Cheers, keep up the great work!!!!
yes, you dont need the box anymore, just one thing, to get the firmware update into the bulb, you still need the box. im not sure if they ship with the new firmware yet, id look that up before you buy. i had to rent an astera box for a day to update mine, not the end of the world but annoying.
@@xx1simon1xx All bulb leaving the factory since mid of December have the right firmware installed. So now it depends on shipping and stocking, I would just ask your dealer..
@@xx1simon1xx hey buddy, one last question, do you need the powerstation in order for the bulb to control the titans or just the bulb connected to a powersource will do?
