To start off I hate posting negative reviews. This is listed as a beginner’s friendly machine. I am not a beginner. My wife and I have wanted this machine for a while. Do your research this is my experience and opinion.
In the video I said I would list good starter machines, I have talked people out of spending $$$ on the breville that I have also used and is a great at home machine. I got them turned onto the Saeco Starbucks Barista sin 006 that I have used and abused many of with no remorse. You can get a refurbished saeco for reasonable price and it’s a fairly bullet proof affordable machine.
Also take into account the gadgets you will need. Tamps, grinder etc, when making your purchase.
I finally dialed in my Gaggia and I am not new to the espresso game. It only took about four pounds plus of coffee.

That was a master class on how to get an inconsistent shot. If you're not into puck preparation. A manual machine probably isn't the machine for you. It takes much more puck prep to get a consistent shot with this machine. Even with perfect puck prep. You have to deal with temp/ pressure fluctuations. Manual machines are not for everyone. There's nothing wrong with that.
@TheMartinChnnl
@TheMartinChnnl 7 месяцев назад
yup, also Breville Barista Express has much better temp stability and is much more forgiving about puck preparation because of the 53mm portafilter and the shower mechanism and dynamics.

Brother man, you can’t talk that poorly about the equipment when you know nothing about even the basics of making espresso. You may have found a “happy spot” that you like and that’s great. But 99% of the issues you mentioned are all brought on by user error, not machine issue.

100% operator error. Better grinder. Weigh your shots. Incorrect tamping banging portafilter on the group head. You have zero consistency in your routine. Not trying to be harsh but there’s a lot wrong here.

Idk. I’ve been pulling pretty decent shots without the cheater piece and with my crappy grinder. When this one finally dies maybe I’ll spend a hundred or so on one. But as of now. Let her ride and slap that espresso gun. Just how I roll.

@@Onebylandtwobysea *SIGH* > I’ve been pulling pretty decent shots without the cheater piece You don't even understand the hardware you're commenting on. The 'cheater piece' you refer to is a *basket stand* for the pressurised basket! If you don't install that stand, the basket won't have anything to rest on. Come on man, this is such basics, and you're failing at all of it.

I have an evo model gaggia. 3 months experience now with zero espresso experience prior. I was not happy at 1st but dialing in my grinder and buying the spin tamper and screen top I’ve learned to get a pretty good shot. Impressive mostly imo. I will say the company we bought these from really has customer service issues and after my experience won’t buy from them again anything. Spending $600 on the machine after 3 Weeks of not good shots the tamper is unusable and had to buy a real tamper and reviews told me the spin version is best for consistent shots. So $130 later but couldn’t actually see the graphics it arrived but ugly. Contacted customer service I’d Like a return exchange for something nice looking. After all $700 they refused return unused spinner and even passed me on to another person that didn’t reply for over a week. So I played with it and found success easily.

Hate to sound rude, but I hope anyone wasting their time watching this video heeds this guy's warning. Not buyers beware of the Gaggia machine, but buyer beware of his assessment, critique, and lack of a consistent and reasonable process to get good shots. My god, so much wrong here. UGH! Seems like he is more interested in quick caffeine delivery with a suggestion of coffee flavor. If anyone else is in this camp, go find something different and probably at a much cheaper price point.

I literally just bought a 2019 version here in Madagascar. I used bourbon Pointu coffee from Madagascar and freshly roasted. I am a beginner. But. The fourth coffee I made on this machine was the best I ever had. I just used the little plastic tamper. For me it was great. The best I ever had.

This machine is anything but user friendly. It's entry level, as it's the bare minimum you need to do home-made espresso and cappucinos, but it's not easy. You learn how to make espresso, froth, grind, temper, pressure, temp, but you have work for it. I don't mind it, but it's a ceremony, at least for me. But I get pretty consistent results. If you want simple, get s fully automatic, or a Nespresso (yeah I said it).

As someone who just got the classic evo pro, I’m at that learning everything stage so I can relate to this. I’m mostly okay with working for everything. What I’ll never understand is that these sort of videos only shop up on my feed after I’ve bought a product. I don’t know how these tech companies know, but they do. And they are increasingly and exceedingly getting better at it

So true, these little machines don't make good espresso if you don't do the whole puck preparation exactly on point. They do not forgive the slightest error and thet certainly do NOT forgive a bad grinder.

Figured I’d mention that the Gaggia Classic is an “entry level” manual espresso machine - not “beginner.” When hearing “entry level,” think “cheap,” or “inexpensive.” The Gaggia is a decent value, but the pressure on mine was somewhere in the 13 bar range, the temp fluctuates, etc. There are tricks to make it more consistent, but it’s so much easier to just get a really good grinder and get replacement spring to lower the pressure. Those two make this machine pull consistent and tasty shots. That, and having a dialed in puck prep. Occasional shots at home is a different beast than commercially pulling shot after shot. And the machine the poster is recommending is a small portafilter with pressurized basket. It’s definitely a home machine - kinda like an Illy machine or Mr Coffee espresso machine. They’re very useful for those who are not “serious” or “in over our heads” espresso people. But for those of us who weigh both the input and output, time our shots, have multiple grinders that cost more than the espresso machines they’re used with, single dose, obsess about puck prep, etc etc- well… this machine isn’t for us either… but it’ll do until we get something better 😂

Why the GCP is the very best 'starter' machine? It can make really awesome shots but maybe even more important.... if you don't like it or get tired of espresso.... it is one of the few entry-level machines that you can sell in a heartbeat and recover most of your money, even years after purchase. Also: it is made in Italy, Breville is made in China. I know that Chinese can make exceptional equipment while Italy sometimes has "labor problems":):). Still...something about it being made in Italy (proly out of Chinese parts but whatever:):)

I just bought my 2nd Gaggia Classic Pro upgrade. I have ten years experience pulling shots but I cannot for the life of me use the portafilter much less the bottomless portafilter without the coffee just raging through. I tamp harder then the 30lbs pressure I read way back. I have a cheap cuisinart grinder so it probably isn't as fine as it could be but it is quite fine. What am I doing wrong. BTW one of the hacks I learned I really like: playing with the steam knob while puling a shot to control the rate to avoid over or under extraction. Pulls a gret shot but I am still using the bowl with the little black insert spout. Any suggestions.
@curry67
@curry67 4 месяца назад
its your shitty grinder. One of the hardest lessons in going the full at home barista approach is you usually probably spend the same or more on a grinder than the machine. when you tamp just concentrate on a even and level pressure more than a hard tamp. I spent 550 cad on the gaggia evo pro and a 420 on a nice espresso conical burr grinder in hindsight i wish i got a turin legato machine and a df64 single does grinder. you should only be pulling 30-40 gram shots out of the included 14g double pressurized basket included with the machine. in my experience ive had better luck with really coarse grinds even like normal coffee type in the pressurized filters. when i tried some spare coffee i dumped when i was dialing in the grind size for the non pressurized filter in the pressurized filter it literally was revolting lol. PS get a naked portafilter it really helps you know whats going on albiet messy and frustrating at first. its really satisfying to finally get that perfect pour.

Hey, i just saw this review and I don't think it's the machine. The grinder shown is not designed for traditional espressos or pressurized baskets. The pressurized basket is designed for a consumer-grade grinder such as the one in the video. The shots will taste better and be more consistent. A baratza encore or sette is probably the minimum grinder you'd need for an unpressurized basket or a hand grinder like the Rok. those will make for much better and more consistent shots. The Gaggia comes with a 12-bar pressure stock. I modded mine to use the 9-bar spring with the unpressurized basket this also helped. Check out some of my videos if you want, but there are a million great RU-vidrs that have offered videos on this as well. Hope you get it all dialled in. A new grinder will change the game for you.

Hi after listening to your long CV Im of the opinion that your knowledge is well below par. New beans, never used before and you just grind up a container full why?. Grind one shot and work from there. Work with a grinder that delivers. Its a great machine for beginners who want and are willing to learn. If people are not interest in process and working at creating great coffee buy a Nespresso machine. Sorry but disagree with most of what said and is based on poor incomplete knowledge.

Yea no. I don't believe you ever worked at a coffee shop and actually made espresso on any of the machines you mentioned. You may have worked around these machines, but never used them, and if you did, it was probably like once or twice. If you actually did use the machines daily as part of your regular job, you would have at least some basic barista skills which, based on your video, you do not have. Do yourself a favor and watch some RU-vid videos on how to properly prepare your puck and how to use this machine.

lol, my man, it's the entry level REAL espresso machine. You'll have to finesse TF out of it with an amazing grinder and temp surfing. From the Gaggia? Go Profitec Go for the PID, but if the Gaggia is a problem? Every real espresso machine will be a problem.
