I love the nostalgia, though. I made a hardcover out of 18 Azrael-issues from the 90's. Korn had its first album, Batman&Robin came out.. I like those ads.

Nice pickups. I was lucky enough to get Perez 2nd WW Omnibus at a moment where Amazon had it for like $33-$35, which definitely made the purchase worth it.
I know I am replying to an old video, but I just made my very first handmade hardcover! I bound Azrael issues 1-16 and Annual 1 together. Next up: 17-33 and Annual 2. The rest I don't have, it's nearly impossible to find specific comics in the NL.
Great vid and haul. You are really selling me on custom binding some of my collection. I'm half tempted to custom bind the 3rd volume of Starman since I refuse to pay the insane prices for it, plus I have the run still. Maybe I'll just custom bind the whole set so they are the same size and give my volume 1,2,4,5,6 to my son. Anyways, thanks for the ideas and enjoy those great books.

Ouch...sir you hurt my heart. I love Claremont's X-treme X-men. It's soooooo goood....no you are right it really isn't. I'm not even a Claremont apologetic, I just really enjoy his take on the characters. But, I admit some of that stuff was rough to get through, but I really enjoyed the search for the books of Destiny.
HAHAHAHAHA +Nocturne22 we bust Omar's balls all the time for being a Claremont fanboy. You should hear him try to justify Claremont's Excalibur (volume 3) you know: "That so totally hurts." But not even him, can say he enjoyed his JLA run.
Great vid! I’m curious about binding my own comics and was wondering about Houchen Library. Can you just send single issues to them and they’ll do all the work? Or do you have to do some of it on your own? I’m wondering because you said Houchen binded but you had Kirk help out, did he help with the bind or just the cover? Can Houchen do the entire thing? It might be cool to see a video on how you get comics ready to send to Houchen!! Great vids btw I’m a new subscriber and am enjoying them a lot!
I definitely didn't know you could include hardcover trades as well! Is the preparation any different from preparing the paperbacks for custom binding?
Not at all Dennis, if anything it's almost easier to get the HC spine seperated from the book. Keep in mind we are talking about your standard HCs like a Marvel Premier one. Not the oversized Hardcovers like Guardians of the Galaxy, Daredevil, Ms. Marvel and Hawkeye as examples.
Loved the video, just wondering when prepping for binding do you have to take out every page in a trade or can you leave the glue spine on without the cover? Can't seem to get a answer anywhere else.
Thank you so much for the kind words. When I prep trades, I usually take as much glue off as possible. Using the hair dryer trick to soften the glue and then an exacto knife. You don't have to, but it makes it line up so much better with the HC spine if you do. I really hope that helps. My next round of custom binds I plan to do a how to tutorial video.
Thanks for the idea, I ended up using the hairdryer and then ripping every page out of my John's JL run. Had a few close calls w/ pages sticking together and some small half-rips but the gutter loss should be able to hide the fuck ups. Can't wait for the tutorial video!
Absolutely. I had the same happen to me, brother. I tore a couple of pages of my teen titans tpbs and I used clear tape to fix it. The gutter loss did hide those small little fuck ups. So I'm sure yours will be completely fine. Hellz yeah I love John's JL run. I can't believe we don't have a modern JL run from DC in omni format. What the hell is up with that? Well, other than the upcoming Darkseid War omni.
You'd think that with the movie coming in less than a year they'd hold off on releasing the end of John's run in omni form to release is whole run in 2 volumes. I'm running Origins - Trinity War and Forever Evil to Darkseid War, and each is only around 1.5 in thick each so it's nothing too insane. Perks of being a graphic design major is being able to use the new movie logo for the covers, they came out great. Just gotta wait an extra few weeks now cause Houchen is backed up like always in the summer lol.
I wouldn't bind anything expensive unless it had a reprint. I wouldn't bind New Mutants 98, but rather a second printing of it. These are mainly for reading.
Those custom binds are beautiful. I recently read Batman and the outsiders after I read ALL of Cassandra Cain batgirl and I loved it! Did you design the custom bind in photo shop or does Houchen bindary design it for you?
I like to design the covers on photoshop myself. I think it's more fun that way. But I completely understand the people that don't want to mess with those kind of things and let someone else do it.
I tried to get those but my brain has a thing Whre I need to get 1 and 2 and 3 but it only 2 at splash page so I was like freaking I need stuff in order any body feel the same about comic books
