Absolutely Beautiful! I’d love to try to make this for my son’s birthday. Do I need to wrap the cake in cling wrap for the first chill session in the fridge before the crumb coat goes on?
Thank you so much for replying!!! I’m making it this weekend 🙌 Your videos are the best I’ve found and will definitely continue watching! 🤗 One last question if you don’t mind. Did you make one large batch of white frosting and dye small portions the colors you wanted?
Thank you! It’s just basic American buttercream coloured with some Americolor super black. It’s great stuff, and doesn’t take much to get a nice dark black. Alternatively you can start with a chocolate buttercream base so you have to use even less food color. I’d be happy to share my recipe if you’re interested!
@@noursalah9530 it may need time to process, if it doesn’t darken in a couple of hours, add more. Sometimes I’ll add blue purple and green as well to change the grey hue. There is also a trick where you microwave a very small portion of your icing then mix it back into the larger batch and chill for a bit.
Alrighty, so the recipe is 1/2 cup unsalted butter 1/2 cup shortening(trex) 1/8 tsp salt 1 tbsp vanilla 4 cups powdered sugar 2-4 tbsp milk, water or heavy cream, whichever you prefer to taste. ( I use 2 tbsp of water) In a heavy mixer, I whip my butter, salt and vanilla, until light and fluffy, next I add my shortening, whip again until you don’t see any lumps. Then a add all of my sugar at once and pulse the mixer so it mixes super slow. Mix until no dry streaks remain then gradually add your liquid until the desired consistency is reached. As for the colours , these are Wilton gel food colours in black, sky blue, royal blue and purple. I like to add some purple to my royal blue as well to make an ultraviolet.
