Galaxy ink swirl with LIGHTS!!

I was working on a Christmas lights tumbler and a coworker suggested doing lights with a galaxy theme. Whaaaaat? Ok!! So here it is! I’m still working out the kinks on the battery pack, but so far doing the notch, cutting the compartments out of the bottom piece, thin epoxy over the wire in the base, and shaving off some of the plastic is working. I know that sounds like a LOT. It kinda IS. I’ve seen people post about drilling through the cup, but where it needs it seems like it would break the seal of the cup. I’m not keen on doing that. I’ll post updates when I find the magic combo.
It still needs about 2 coats, but is finished enough to get the idea across.
The tumbler is a strawbler from www.thestainlessdepotcompany.com.
I used KSresin liquidy split for all but the ink swirl layer. This is definitely a more expensive route, but I wanted to build up the base quickly. Use code TPS for a 5% discount and they always have free shipping! 😍 It should generate the discount with this link without the code: bit.ly/3iVnsLM.
I often buy my Envirotex lite from Michaels with a coupon. But sometimes Amazon is about the same price. Gallon kit amzn.to/2MpmoBS
32 ounce kit amzn.to/2Qdoaay
16 ounce kit amzn.to/399KJWg
The uv resin is from Frans glitter. Use this referral link for $5 off your first order!
i.refs.cc/Fkm1Mb0Q?smile_ref=e...
The heat gun is from amazon: amzn.to/2MmgCkI
I used fairy lights from amazon (just amazons choice) but they may be a little too long. I have more on the way that are about half as long.

Beautiful. It looks like you could drill a small hole in the bottom portion just big enough to get the lights through. Drill it high enough so that it avoids the threads in the cap. Then add the lights and fill the hole. Just a thought.

I did one that way as well, the insulation seemed about the same both ways. This style doesn’t stay as cold as other styles of cups it seems.

This cup.is.awesome. why not try drilling a hole in the lid 🤔 I'm going to try it and see how well it works with the wire. Just a thought, I agree drilling into the cup risks breaking the seal. You're the first I've seen with the notch. Now I need to play with the lid a bit.
@ThePurpleStitch
@ThePurpleStitch 3 года назад
The disadvantage of drilling through that bottom cap is how level the cup will be afterwards. If you figure out the best way of doing that, I’d love to hear!

Girl! I found the tool for you and it worked so well for me!!! I found it at Walmart for $0.94 pieces still flew across the room but this is easier on your hands and it’s not so big, Plus I went ahead and sent it down the inside with my Dremel because I know my friend that asked me to make two of these lighted tumblers for her that she’s a klutz and she might cut her finger out on her to get her ringer switch in the light on and off, laugh out loud! There a cutting pair of pliers 😉 pps can we be friends because love listening to you and I’m just drawn you

Weeeeellllll....the first attempt: I mixed two of the same part about the 4th layer in (1st time ever!). I couldn’t clean it off enough to save it. The 2nd attempt: the battery pack fell off and stuck to another cup which pulled them both off their turners! Then the wires twisted until they broke. The 3 one was great all the way to the vinyl stage and the stupid battery pack had stopped working right!! I almost finished the video on that one but I was so upset and couldn’t bring myself to post a video of a lights tumbler with non working lights! 😩

An idea that you could probably try doing to get to the battery pack without damaging the wires every time you unscrew the bottom is drill a hole where the battery pack will be from the inside wall out wide enough just so your strand of Lights can fit through but drill it high enough that the bottom cap won't touch the wires and pinching It Off and after you drill your hole because you're drilling from the inside out sand down outside to smooth a bit and then after you strain your lights through the hole put some silicone or hot glue so that your epoxy won't go on the inside where the battery pack is at. I believe doing it this way will protect the wires from getting damaged from the straw holder unattached and attached again to the tumbler. It's worth a shot let me know what you think.
@ThePurpleStitch
@ThePurpleStitch 3 года назад
It definitely protects the wires but affects the integrity of the insulation. I have one now that is drilled and I’m doing a second ice test. I filled the hole around the wire with gorilla epoxy. The first test was only a half full test that I did at night. The ice was melted by morning. I did a full tumbler of ice last night and will be checking it in a few minutes. These tumblers are vacuum sealed to get the insulation that keeps drinks hot or cold for so long. 🙂

@ThePurpleStitch
@ThePurpleStitch 3 года назад
@@tinawood5926 I did a side by side comparison of the drilled one and this one. The ice melted almost the exact same. This style doesn’t seem to insulate as well in general it seems. I really was worried that breaking the seal would be a major issue. Apparently it’s the design in general. Still kept cold and didn’t sweat though. Just not 24 hours like some would.
