Great video! Thanks so much. I took my phone to Costa Rica in Dec. of 2015 (camping in the jungle). I left my phone in my tent ONE day (+50C during the daytime) and it cooked. Took awhile to die - I was able to get it to boot by putting in the freezer for 15 minutes but after a week of that silliness it finally gave up its ghost. Great story, eh?! I bought an LG Stylus 2 in CR (love the Note feature!) but it doesn't have the features I like. After I got home I bought another Note 4 off eBay for $200. Then I found a used MoBo on eBay from China for $60. Put off installing it...finally got to it after watching your video a few times - easy peasy, thanks! Did have a bit of trouble with the one connector on the back but I got it...all good - you're the Man!
Wow yeah what a great story!! How’d you like Costa Rica? I’d love to visit there sometime!! I’m glad it all worked out for you on the swap despite that tricky connector.
hi, ir's been a while. I had a similar case like yours, I left my phone in the car on the dash and it cooked and shut down on me. It works but it just heats up whether I turn it off or not. :( so does changing JUST the logic mother board does the magic? been putting off until now 😂 it's time I guess, it's 2023
Really great job, thank you. I'm now completely confident that I can do this repair. UPDATE: I got a used m/b from China, installation went great, thank you very much for a great video.
First and foremost, thank you thank you thank you for not making us watch you remove every single screw on this phone... Every other video on this subject is at least three to five minutes of watching someone unscrew everything! Second, thank you for a clear, concise, instructive video. My Note 4 just crapped out yesterday, and as much as I would love to try it I don't think I would even give this a chance. But it's nice to know that you have done this video for people who do want to attempt it. I do appreciate watching this though. Thanks!
Thank you so much for the kind words and the feedback I appreciate it! I figured it’s no use someone watching me unscrew it all I need to do is talk about what to do the video can always be paused. I’m glad at least you could make an informed decision even if you didn’t do the repair yourself. Thank you
@@SmartEasyDIYer Besides, and correct me if I'm wrong, swapping out the motherboard will not help if you're trying to retrieve any photos or files that are located on the internal memory. If I'm in correct in this assumption, I may actually attempt what you instructed on your video. But my Note 4 is over 5 years old, so it just may be time to get a new phone.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, you are my saver. I'm lucky to speak English because it was impossible to find a good French video. I followed step by step your video and your technic worked very well Nothing broke. My galaxy note 4 and I tell you MERCI.
Really the best video on the subject, clean and informative. I am going to do this soon and need all the info i can get. Thank you very much, sir! I do ned to ask about what you wrote in the info about the imei number. What do you meant by clean? What do i need to think about when ordering the logic board? Obviously apart from the model nummer.. The boards come programmed? I mean i dont have to mess with that too? Buy new or used? Obviously i want an unlocked one bit if i get a locked one, hos difficult is it to unlock it?
Something that might help with the 2 connector you was having trouble with. 1-2mm double sided tape (the kind used for screen & part replacement). Only remove one side of the tape. That will push up/raise the connector so it should snap in. Your video helped a lot!!!
There's already foam on the back of my connector - but I noticed that it was tilted on an angle a bit. Messed with the ribbon cable to make it more parallel and eventually got it. Didn't want to make a bulge there by adding a shim underneath - but whatever works :-)
Excellent advide, would have taken me a few more hours if it wasn't for this trick. On mine, I actually had to peal both sides of the double sided foam tape on the touch connector. The display connector to the right was a breeze relatively speaking, it was much more planted to begin with, only needed a piece of non-adhesive foam backing underneath it. I removed my mobo to remove the camera module to allow more ventilation; the phone is meant to be a dedicated car-nav, so no need for the camera. Wouldn't have bothered if I had prior knowledge of the two cursed connectors! What were you thinking Samsung?
Informative video. Recently Note 4 wouldn't power on. Looked on an android forum site and one person suggested putting phone only in freezer for 15 min and try to charge. That process did work for me, but I have to keep repeating that process overtime and if I power phone off. Bad motherboard?
Hi. I was going to ask, if the S-pen did work for you after you replaced the motherboard? I have not replaced the motherboard on my Note 4 yet, but thinking about doing it since I get the emmc read failure all the time.
I did, everything works fine except the s pen. It doesn't recognize it it does recognize when it is pulled out, the display and touch work fine but not s pen. don't know if I didn't connect those connectors on the back of the board correctly or the motherboard was faulty...
thanks for the quick response and awesome video. my phone sometimes goes into bootloader mode and gives me a "ddi : mmc read error" so im pretty sure its a hardware issue.
Your videos are GREAT! I am about to attempt this. One question please. My phone was having some issues with rebooting out of nowhere and then finally shut off and will not turn back on. Is my motherboard burned out/bad?If i replace the motherboard in the phone will that solve my issue? Thanks in advance
Yes, I have checked the battery and have changed it with a replacement. I plug my phone into the wall to charge and i get nothing. I have tried all the "Solve It" issues through advice and you tube, but nothing seems to work. For awhile my phone was having a reboot issue where it was turning off and then turning on out of nowhere and even during a phone call .Also, it would freeze while i was on it. My phone has been babied and has always been in a case. My phone is in excellent/mint shape.
Thank you again for your advice and help, i really appreciate it! So, in your opinion if i change my motherboard/logic board should my phone turn on and go back to normal?
just watched your video thanks for posting great information. 2 questions, is it possible to replace just the battery connector on the board alone and if yes where would I find the part. I have been searching and have come up dry. Could I be looking under an incorrect part name?
Thnx for the video. Question: if my screen is perfect and I just need to replace the motherboard, do I still need to take the screen out as you did or is there a way to get to the motherboard from the back just by unscrewing it?
Hallo Smart Easy DIY, you don´t heat the front like the other youtubers do? Is it so easy? I have bought a note 4 on ebay lacking the ear jack... Can I do it also without heating the display and removing it from the frame? Thank you!
My Note 4 has been laying around dead for a couple of years now. I am considering repairing it now... When the cost of this part is 2/3 of the price of the whole phone. xD But I want my phone to work so I think I'll try. Just need to get a couple of the tools that my pc building box doesn't contain. Is it easy to break the screen while prying the sides off? Thanks for the video btw. :D
Thanks so much for this video. I had a Note 4 that was giving mmc read/write error, so I picked up another Note 4 with cracked screen and changed the main boards over following your video. All went well except i now don't have sound coming from the main rear speaker. Is there anything i should be double checking to remedy this?
+Matthew Bushnell The main thing I would check is the connection for the speaker. If you have the speaker in correctly and no damage and it worked before then it should just be a connection issue I would suspect.
@6:00 - I misaligned the connector for the screen digitizer and when I pressed the connector hard to connect it, I bent the pins on the one edge. It was a real drag! I didn't know I focked it up until after it was all back together - everything worked except the pen wouldn't write on about 1/2 the screen. Ended up have to buy another MoBo and do it all again. So be careful with this step, try and take some measurements because the connectors on the phone itself can move in all 4 directions quite a bit.
+Paul Armstrong I'm pretty sure they won't interchange. If you want if you have them both you could compare them side-by-side see if the connections are the same then it may work.
Well if you install a motherboard form a different phone it'll have whatever firmware that was on the board originally and it'll have its own imei number. I'm not much help on the software end though I just know how to change it out. Thanks.
Would it make problem about the software if you change logic to new one, because apple i phone does have security measure about the phone how about samsung do they have??? I want to know because I want to revive the phone! :-)
I would look for a good used board that’s original Samsung. Perhaps out of a phone with a broken screen that still works etc. then you would already have whatever software is installed previously.
+Saqif Rahman I have a couple of my nephews that have the note 4 and they love it! I think it's a good solid device it just depends on if you want the latest and greatest.
I have the mmc read failed death knell. Able to get the phone to work after a bit of struggle. This common problem has been linked to the motherboard. QUESTION. Will changing the motherboard give me another faulty POS thats going to do the same thing or are the new ones fixed?
Q Az did you try it nd what was the verdict? I have the same emmc fail, and cardboard underneath only works for a few weeks, then it starts failing again. I'm just worried that the new board will have the same problem.
Hi, Thanks for the video. I replaced the motherboard because the phone was dead and everything works really well and I am typing from it now however the spen does not work anymore on the screen but it works on the buttons so I figured I must have not connected one of the two connectors under the motherboard with the name HEA9101. I tried a lot to connect it but it seems it isn't being connected. The other connector under the flash and the heart sensor clicks in but the other one does not click in. Could you please help me @Smart Easy Repair
+sayadev yes I remember that connector it is a pain in the backside. If you read the comment section there are some helpful tips in there. I think the one guy used a double-sided paper or something to block it up enough to get the connector on but it's thin enough it doesn't matter to leave it in there. I think there was some other tips in there too.
thanks for the video. i have a question. my note 4 keeps rebooting into download mode and sometimes it won't start. my friend is giving me his note 4 same carrier but his phone is all scratched up. can i take his logic board and put into my phone.
+Cushman Jeremy Yes you can do that. Im not sure what your phones problem is. Maybe just a bad battery? Have you tried switching batteries and swing if it makes a difference? But yes you can swap logic board over. Hopefully his is clean to activate with your carrier.
I wanted to ask can I swap a N910F motherboard on a N910P (Sprint) variant handset? If so, will it work correctly? 4G, WiFi, Bluetooth and everything. Please reply asap.
@@SmartEasyDIYer I haven't bought the motherboard yet but I checked the layout of both motherboards and it was 99.9% similar. I guess I should buy it? I'm not willing to waste $50-60 for nothing.
So Sprint deemed a motherboard failure NOT covered by my warranty and wanted me to pay a $200 insurance deductible for a refurbished phone. I'm refusing to do so and stumbled across this video. I could use some advice on buying the right compatible logic board though. How do I know which one is the correct part?
+vech20 so I'm Guessing you're going to want another sprint board if you have service with them? I have a link in the video description below the video where you can find some sometimes. It varies a lot of what's available but that's the best place I know to get some. If you get one make sure that it's compatible with sprint and that it's clean to activate meaning it had a clean esn or IMEI serial number.
Hello i have followed the steps. But now the screen does not display anyting on powerup. I do get the blue led light in the corner, but no display. Can you please help me with this. Is there any way to troubleshoot this.
I think what it is is that screen connector that I was saying is a pain to line up correctly. So I would try to double check that if you get a chance. There were some helpful comments below the video of people that have used double-sided tape or folded up some paper or something to help it go together maybe you can check those out as well.
Can I change my motherboard n910p to n910c/f, also my phone now in marshmallow version, if replace new motherboard lollipop version, my phone version is in marshmallow version, will it downgrade or stay at marshmallow version
+Chin Siew Koon I believe you can swap them if the connections points are the same. If you have both boards you could hold them side-by-side and make sure. Your phone software will be whatever the board is that you're putting into it.
+Donte Washington Im not sure how. If you know what chip it is and you're good at soldering you could potentially do it. I'm not sure which chip the memory one is. Maybe a phone repair place could tell you.
The problem is the emmc chip, and that the new board doesn't have the same problem, ut there is no way to tell, luck of the draw i guess? Now what do I have to do once the logic board is changed? Will the phone boot up like normal? Or will it act as a "new" phone?
maybe you are gonna respond fast enough. I am now trying to get the motherboard out of my phone, but its kinda stuck :/ what can I do. I already got cracks in my screen so strong did I push.
@@Chris_Sims my screen was already loose. the motherboard should come right up., are you sure you removed all the screws? There is a black one too thats easy to miss!
So my phone been rebooting itself and stays on the Samsung loading screen and from there it shuts off. I replaced my battery to see if that was the problem and no luck at all. Should i replace my motherboard??
I changed yesterday my note 4 motherboard because of heat issue. After finishing the job I powered up my phone and a blue led indicator was showing but my screen stayed black. What can be the cause?
My phone is completely dead. Doesn't boot in safe mode or anything with a new battery. Would this bring it back to life? How likely is this the problem?
I’m thinking if it doesn’t charge and even with new battery it doesn’t bring it to life then it is the motherboard. It should bring it back to life with the different one.
Smart Easy DIY I may just have to try this then. There's so many things I like better about my old note 4 over the note 8 and I have 30 days to return it with only a restocking fee of $30 lol. I just don't see what's so great about the note 8. No removable battery, 12mp cameras instead of 16mp, don't like the curved display, don't like the shape as much, price, SD card is combersom to get to... And many other things I don't like as much but can't think of off the top of my head right now, but mainly the battery is the biggest one. The note 8 seems like one step forward and 5 backwards.
@Ben Leader: Great to read your comment! I've really been Jonesing for a new phone (the Huawei Mate 10 Porsche - check it out baby!) but now that I have two working Note 4's - that's just as good as dual-SIM isn't it (lol)...The screen dimensions of the Note 8 appear strangely incorrect to my finely tuned eye :-) and that screen curvature is such a useless gimmick really...thanks!
+Techno Space#Satwik I have a link of the video description below the video of the only place I really know to get some. It varies a lot of what's available.
Anybody know what part I need to replace to fix my Note 4 ? My phone has never had reception from new no 3G or 4G wifi is fine. Well it gets reception than it does not cannot use the phone at all any idea?
hello, I replace motherboard, everything went well, but now my screen is black, the phone work but the screen is black, why that? maybe I make some mestake and damage the screen?
Is it possible to unlock network? I think my phone network fault, can't access network, data, call, messages, wifi can use, can anyone tell me about this?
