Keith Warren is back in Florida to visit some of the best genetics in the universe. Home of some monster deer, Galaxy Whitetails is located near the Villages Retirement community that is famous in the state.
Meeting up with friend Steve Munz, Keith gets a front row view of what is no doubt one of the premiere facilities in all of deer farming. A family run operation, Galaxy Whitetails has some fantastic bucks, including 200 plus inch yearlings and the famous breeder, Southern Boy.

These deer are genetically grown. I doubt the Boone n Crockett or Pope n Young would accept them. There grown inside fences. Keith has a stand in a deer farm in PA named for him. Keith will hunt fenced game!. I couuldnt!. Free range only!

Is it ideal for the deer to have water balloon looking points when in velvet? Does it keep looking like that after they shed?

I guess big "typical" racks aren't what he's after. What he was calling Typical didn't look very "Typical'. I don't know what "technically" makes a typical, but my "idea" of a typical is the wide, long tined, symmetrical Texas monster 10 or 12 pointer, without the gobs of points the deer in this video had. I guess different deer farmers have different goals. It appears that "score" or total measurement take precedence over symmetry and looks. I guess there are deer breeders who go more for looks and symmetry than just total "inches". Some of those deer looked more like caribou than whitetails. They were amazing, but some were a little ridiculous. It's amazing they can carry that much rack around! Looks like a fun job! Thanks for sharing.

Joe Blake it's hard to get a exactly. semetrical deer in this industry that is over 100 because of the genetics

To be a typical rack it has to have 7% or less of non typical points on the rack...

The ones with the balls at the end may have damaged their antlers. Like hit it against something, theybcan get damaged and then they fill with blood.

I'm new to this and my question is...what are the differences between the Northern Deer and Southern. I always thought deer were deer. I find this fascinating.

Funny how in the wild the deer racks are not that big but the body is bigger then this but on the farms the opposite

Florida deer do not get very big body wise, If you shoot a 200lb. deer in Florida you killed a monster. Most grown deer are around 125lbs. If you go to northern deer farms they produce deer over 200lbs. Some as much as 300lbs. The larger racks just makes the body seem smaller.

Some of the racks these farms are producing are grotesque. Makes me wonder if the could even survive in the wild.

If horns are the selling point, why not just use dart guns and cut the antlers off, why bother killing it?... I hunt, but I wouldnt shoot fenced game.
