You guys exaggerate the price of those cameras, the Fold already has 3 decent ones, changing them up to the Ultra would be not that expensive, for a 1800$ fold as is, a Fold Ultra with the S24U cameras would probably be 2K$ unless they want to milk it even more. Tbh I don't understand why this Fold6 exists, you can just get the Fold4 and be 99% there...
I've used the Z Fold 4 for 2 years and traded it in for a S24 Ultra. I finally have the sense of security that the phone will last since my Fold broke three times during those 2 years of use.
The only reviewer I watch because you critically actually review items. Most RU-vidrs are basically high production budget ad factories (cough cough mrwhosetheboss, mkbhd, etc)
7:58 The way you wrote down the charging time is a bit misleading. It's 1 hour 16 min vs 1 hour 7 min (or 76 min vs 67 min). There really isn't that much of a difference, and it's easier to see this way. (But i do agree that 1hr 16min is not FAST, by any means)
Fold 6 wins for multitasking. S24 ultra wins for everything else. Good comparison video. Samsung really needs to upgrade the audio as the speakers on both devices are average. Thanks for the comparison.
I have the Z Fold 5 and have had it for a year. Good choice to stick with the S23 Ultra. This is my second z fold 5. Both times the screen messed up. The first time was a warranty exchange. The second time samsung changed their warranty policy for foldables.. Could not get it fixed or exchanged. Had to purchase another one through insurance. Paid the 200 dollar deductible. I'm going to the s24 ultra.
Regardless I will trade in my s24 ultra for fold 6, s24 ultra is still a candybar phone while fold 6 is for better experience and a new look for us users who will use a foldable for the 1st time
Just pre-ordered the fold6, trading in a fold4 I've had since launch. For anyone who has never owned one, I can't stress enough what a game-changer the ability to use the front screen with the primary camera is for practical use. Your video calls will look better than anyone else's with essentially no competition outside of someone using a dslr as a webcam. If you're a creator for IG, TikTok, shorts, etc it is a DRASTIC quality of life upgrade. Also, for what it's worth, the TikTok app on the fold is in general the most enjoyable way to use TikTok on any device and I'll die on this hill.
Went with 24ultra the other day, not without the help of your fold6 review actually. I'll wait a couple more years, for now too many compromises. The biggest con I think is a square display: landscape foldable like pixel fold is the way to go: you can multitask on landscape aspect just as well but for everything else landscape will be superior experience. Spen not being built in as well a major minus, and official s pen cases by samsung proven to be unreliable by many people in terms of actually holding a pen (they're also all in ugly colors for zfold6). And really, so much money just for fold5 with new design, albeit definetly better one ngl. Ai toys for me are just that - toys, and 24u will have them all anyway.
Great comparison. Cameras aren't as far apart as you'd think they should be. Speakers noticeably better on the fold - louder, fuller/richer sound & punchier bass. Love both, but I think it's the S24U for me (if my S22U needs replacing). I do wish the fold came with the same cameras as the flagship ultra, & the other things that make the ultra better. That way all people have to choose between is the form factor, which I think is a better choice. I feel like there are too many compromises in choosing the fold, as lovely as that bigger screen is.
The speakers came a pleasant surprise but I guess they have more room inside the phone to make them sound better. Larger chamber etc. there are many compromises yes. It’s not as easy as you would think.
@@madcatter972 I still find impossibly bad how Samsung makes the zoom changes so artificial and that lack of smoothness. All iPhones make like a continuous zoom in/out as a real camera, Samsung phones (in never tried others, so I can’t say of all Android are like that) make “jumps” when zooming in/out. It’s horrible when watching… Other than that, the aspect ratios from the iPhones/iPad/Surface Pro are the best for me. That’s why the very tall/thin aspect ratios from most devices don’t cut it for me. I hope more manufacturers end with those too tall/thin aspect ratios…
your reviews are amazing! used to be subscribed to a lot of reviewers, but only maintained you, with the more straightforward and fair comparisons. Would love the bigger screen on the fold, to better remote connect to my PC as well as browse through reddit. But it still feels like a tablet + a phone is still a better bang for my $, best of both worlds for cheaper.
I'm excited to get my z fold 6. I'm big into multi-tasking with multiple apps so I can't wait. I'm also going to keep my s23 ultra as a backup incase I ever need a better camera but honestly the difference in camera quality between phones these days is so small that it doesn't really matter for regular everyday pictures. If I wanted to take super high quality pictures I would just buy a real camera.
well it's not true the S24U in cameras is still rubbish at night and noisy during the day... Samsung is failing but let's wait for the August update if it will solve the problems as Samsung doesn't solve anything
I returned maybe 10 s24 ultras because of the grainy screen issues…if not for that I def would have loved it. But until that issue gets fixed, iPhone it is.
I agree that folding phones aren't perfect. And samsung doesn't upgrade the phone as they should with better cameras and batteries, but tbh, I got bored of slab phones and got a folding phone refurbished for surprisingly cheap. I really love the fold! While for videos, you don't get a huge advantage, for everything else you do! And to fold up a tablet and put it in your pocket is amazing. Great video!
The fold 6 needed a bigger front screen, bigger battery , the dark corning non reflective glass, s pen outer screen, it was alright but incremental and I might wait until fold 7 or fold 6 slim. The software is excellent but the hardware needs work . I might get the book 4 pro 360 laptop or tab s10 instead. Its true Honor is winning w Huawei, Xiaomi , One Plus and Vivo. Its strange because the s24 ultra has good hardware. I have the s23 ultra and I want to go foldable but I have to wait until it makes perfect sense even if that's Fold 6 slim or Fold 7 ultra or whenever they decide to upgrade the hardware
Either Samsung has a plan on another foldable with those changes as rumored like a Z Fold 6 Pro or Z fold 6 slim or the yare just playing it safe and lazy.
bit the bullet and couldnt wait yet another year for the fold we deserve. Just going to rock the fold 6, as im sure it will take a few years for them to realize they need to change, the 6 should keep me at bay until then
Folds are just not there for me, yet. Maybe in the future. The only foldable design I saw that has yet to be commercially implemented, and I liked; was the scroll design. Where the screen rolls out and in depending the length needed. The issue with that besides mechanics, is software, since Android is 100% not mature or capable of that kind of flexibility, even Apple struggles with that.
The comment that Andriod is not mature yet is hilarious. Apple is finally getting around to adding features that Android users have had for a decade. Implying that that any OS isn't mature because it cannot yet acomodate a scrolling screen with basically an infinitely adjustable aspect ratio... really?
@@vukasika For tablet use, it's not mature enough, and I am almost EXCLUSIVELY an ANDROID user. Love my S24 Ultra, have a Tab S 9+ and S 9, but the tablet apps are lacking or non-existent.
Great comparison Chris, Can you please make a review about the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra sometime soon? I'm looking forward to getting one with the wooden back finish which looks absolutely beautiful for its good price point, I hope they'll send you one and thank you in advance 🙏
Samsung rethink about design edges are sharp..and big screen 6.8 inch when it compare to same screen size is very big...but i love it .. premium android and all rounder phone...video, camara, fully features loaded...but charger missing 😭
Great video! Everything I wanted from a comparison. Going with the fold since it’s effectively cheaper with trade in and form factor is novel. Intend to upgrade again with a trade in unless I really love it.
5:40 This is the single bullet point every reviewer seems to be failing to take a look at, unlike you. Everyone is like „I want a broader screen“ but in reality you lose all the advantages of that foldable (a mobile tablet to watch some high quality video content). Thanks for explaining. For my purposes it would be even better to get an iPad Mini. Bummer. highly appreciated review. 😅
Been rocking the Z fold 3 since it released , I'm ready to upgrade and these are exactly the 2 phones I'm stuck between , came from a note 21 Ultra so I love the s pen and large screen factor , but that inner screen is just so beautiful and useful, if the fold had better camers it'd be a no brainer.
When Samsung makes a fold with the same camera, battery life, and durability as the S24 Ultra. Plus the folded dimensions as the S24 ultra, I might consider the fold .
Every foldable phone company is only willing to give their foldables their 2nd tier camera system, because they want to save their best system for their Ultras. Unfortunately, Samsung's idea of their 2nd tier camera system is the base S24's camera, which has been the same since the S22 😢
Honestly.... While at the beginning folds looked cool, when it comes to Samsung they fallen in the trend to just do the same over and over again. No real changes or pushing technology... And camera... well it's Samsung processing...
Why can't Samsung simply put two Samsung S24 Ultra Displays together to give us a fold??? And then use a third S24 Ultra display for the cover screen and the same camera system from the S24 Ultra and the built in S Pen in a Fold factor????? Samsung literally has all the hardware and software to make it happen and they don't need to reinvent anything new.
If you want that then just get the s24 Ultra. Most people don't want a huge heavy phone like that. It wouldn't be one handed anymore either which is the whole point.
it would be extremely expensive but honestly I'm all for it. they could just have like a really thin bezel in the middle like an acrylic build make it a transparent see through bezel that overlaps in the middle making the two screens meet for the screen to not have a gap and the hinge locks together in place when folded and closed.
Can't wait to get my Fold 6 1TB. I pre-ordered it with a Watch Ultra, Buds 3 Pro, warranty, and accessories. Samsung gave lots of incentives here in Canada on the day it was available for pre-order. It might be still ongoing as of writing this. I paid in full for everything just under $4000 which includes taxes and $1200 discount. Price seems fair so I'm satisfied and can't wait to take delivery.
I used to have a Note 20 Ultra. Traded that in for a Z Flip 3 years ago. Loved my Flip but had an accident with it and went to iPhone 14 Pro Max. Been using iPhone 14 for a year now. Went from amazing camera, to subpar camera and back to amazing camera. And now? I’ll be getting the Fold 6. Ready to pick up on launch, fully preordered. Why? Cause, I realized with the Z Flip 3 so many years ago, that I’m no longer striving for best or the best with tech. Slab phones kind of bore me. I have this iPhone 14 Pro Max with a good screen and fantastic cameras and it never impressed me or excited me. I’m so damn excited for the Fold, and I know I’m gonna lose the cameras and the wider front screen. I get that wholeheartedly. And yet I don’t care. Cause I know for me personally, I’ll utilize the tablet size screen and multitasking more than I will ever utilize nice cameras. I take normal pictures for instagram. That’s all I ever do. As much as I LOVE the S24 Ultra, and I know the S25 Ultra is going to be a juggernaut, I just have zero interest in owning one. The form factor of these foldables and flips are very exciting to me. I still miss my flip.
I am in the same boat of thoughts 😕 as you I have a s22U replacing it for a zfold6 and I have to say I feel like I am downgrading since I can easily get s24U or 25U but I feel like after owing a square phone all this years I feel like I want to try this foldable if for some reason I don't like it I will try and trade it for a s25U
One thing that I don't see mentioned much in this sort of comparison, is that the smaller outer display is actually an advantage. Yes, generally speaking, more screen is better than less screen - there are advantages to both, but the advantages of large outweigh the advantages of small in most people's opinion. But on a device which has two screens, you get the best of both worlds. A fold fits nicely in your pocket, nicely in one hand, great for swipe typing, but any time you need a bigger screen it's a fold away.
Exactly. He says the ultra fits better in your pocket cause the fold 6 is wider. I'm not really sure how he comes to that conclusion. The ultra feels HUGE in pocket since it's so wide, but since the fold 6 is narrower, even though it's thicker, it feels smaller overall.
Thanks for the review. I wish someone would compare the Fold 6 to the S24 Plus since they are closer in specs. Fold 6 against the Ultra isnt even a fair fight.
BUT what about typing and holding with just one hand? That is something you did not consider. Often, we only have one hand to use the phone with and the narrow Z Fold is perfect for it.
For me there is still way to much risk of spontaneous cracks in the crease (and I dont mean the screen protector) to justify spending this much on a foldable. All the previous models (both Samsung and other brands) seemed to have suffered from this (albeit a small %).
the Fold just made the Ultra look better. I wonder why this industry stuck with current phone sizes. I have small hands but there is still plenty space left for a 6.8" or larger without a case.
I'm still debating between the Z Fold 6 or the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro. The X Fold 3 Pro has Samsung beat in hardware - battery and charging speeds, but Samsung has the software department...
@@Techtablets Ah great, just what i was looking for, a well detailed comparison. I've been watching you long enough to know everything will be covered.😊
I personally don't see the appeal for foldables other than to say you have a novelty item and it folds. Samsung made sure to nail the aesthetics this year to get people attracted to it, but as an "everyday" phone, I just think the S24U literally NAILS this too a tee and it's so good that it seems boring, but the same case can be said for the iPhone. I'll wait until they make the foldable with components that justify it's $2k price tag.
Is it worth upgrading from the s22 ultra yet? I really wanted a foldable after using a friends but i still cant see anything that makes me want to upgrade my s22 ultra. Someone who has done it can chime in pls
exactly the video i have been looking for. i am currently on the s22 ultra and upgrade every two years. so i would normally get the s24 ultra though i am intrigued with the z fold 6. of course in terms of price, i will be shelling out more for the foldable but the other phone will take more space in my pants pocket (to the point of it being bothersome). the company i work for will pay for the first 1,200 so the s24 ultra out of pocket will be negligible while i am shellling out at least 900 for the chance to be uniquely different. i still like the camera on the s24 ultra though and the better batter life but in terms of wow factor, the z fold 6 has got that. decisions, decisions....
My Z-Fold 6 camera is taking very blurry pictures compared to the five. I checked the one at Best buy and it's the same thing The processing is all screwed up. The old fold five is much sharper with way better contrast the same picture on the 6 is downright blurry. I don't understand why no tech reviewer is talking about this problem or that the five is way better at HDR video
Since the fold 3 ive always run a fold and an ultra each year.. best of both worlds. Happy to be rocking the S24 ultra and Fold 6 now, why only choose one lol?
im currently using an s24 ultra and it has been nothing but mediocre. mediocre compared to the competition while costing hundreds more. wish i needed a phone during the s23 ultra era since it is the much better purchase compared to the s24 ultra. had to opt for the s24 ultra because samsung is the only company willing to pay me $400 if i trade in my broken s21 ultra.
Switched from the S23U and it's one of my biggest mistakes ever. So many issues at launch and I kept expecting software updates to improve the device but I have given up on any improvements. The level of depreciation in value is the worst part. A phone I bought for £1200 in less than 5 months ago can be sold for £600 maximum now.
Really happy with my S23U it just keeps getting better and you can get it for the price of a mid ranger nowadays - it's the steal of the century. Now waiting for a possible trade in to a S25U when the time comes.
@@jamesendurance4919 man s23u is such a good phone. unfortunate that you switched to the s24u. really overhyped and underdelivered. i can only trust techtablets cause i know he is very fair compared to other phone reviewers
I have Fold4 compared to Fold5 vs S24 ultra is huge difference ... S24U is too wide and tall for my pocket and hase sharper edges. I find most comfortable Fold5 ( my fold 4 is too thick but still more managable than s24U) . So I pre-ordered fold6 which is even lighter and thinner than fold 5. I don't care about camera that much I prefer bigger screen for multitasking and reading PDF, word, excel files....
I think the cameras are on par with one another seeing as we're almost 8 months in with no camera improvements 😂 on the S24 Ultra. I am still on June security update and I think Samsung are waiting for another month to release 6.1.1 for the S24 Ultra because they want people to waste there money buying a Z Fold 5 plus because that's essentially what the Fold 6 is. I'm not buying it. Samsung shouldn't be treating it's customers like this. They need to release 6.1.1 now on the 24 Ultra. Yet they keep pushing the update back.
Man, I don't understand Samsung and the decision to limite the ZFold to 25w of charge. I'm using the Fold since the 4th generation. I was hoping for finally to see 45w on the Fold6.
10:57 incredible contrast differences between S24u and Fold6 screens. Probably the Gorilla glass Armor helps a lot with refections but the Fold6 is like an ugly LCD screen 😱
Verizon has a sale right now. You can get the 512GB same price as the 256 GB and if you do a trade-in you can get up to $800 off your food. So if it's at the price of the 256 gb it will make it cheaper then the ultra if you get $800 off
Thanks for the detailed comparison. One thing I have not seen many mention, is that the fold phones screens in my experience (4 and 5) were extremely easily dented or scratch. I am not sure what it is, but it felt like even a tiny sneeze would result in a very minor dent on the inner/outer screens, they seem very "soft". Apps are not 100% optimised for foldables so scaling and aspect ratio is always a faff.
They are much better now but still prone to damage if something fell on them game over. As for app being optimised it still remains an issue with some apps but most brands offer and option to resize it to the screen which isn't always perfect.
Would you be interested to do a ourdoor brighrness test? How long the screen can be on maximum brightness in sun before dimming? Iphone and samsung are unless on this, dimming after only 5 min. Only phone so far not dimming from max brightness us oneplus 12. Wold be very interesting for us how use the phone on boats and airplanes and there is a lot of us lookijg for this.
Took 67 mins to charge the s24 and and 60 + 16 mins to charge the fold. They try to confuse you by saying am hour but an hour is 60 minutes so it's only a 9 minute difference from each phone to fully charge. That's actually pretty sad on the s24 part it should charge under 60 mins from dead to full in about 35 40
