I just realised that the last segment about me getting fired and quitting from my translation work (at least for now) might have sounded a bit gloomy, but I didn't mean it like that! I think it has been a good change for me and I can always try and get new translation clients if I want to. But right now I want to delve deeper into this video thing! And that wouldn't be possible without all of you watching these videos, so thank you!

I watch a lot of sailing ocean crossings, solos, cruising live aboard sailing etc. your boats and your goals are the most unique. And what you do is harder because you seek the cold and the lonely. (10 year US navy veteran, 4 Tran pacific crossings, many patrols from Central America up to Canada. ) I’ve been on the Columbia river, and lots of ocean in between. I will be fishing in Yakutat Alaska in July this year. I wonder if you will be beyond that point by then? I would love to meet you both and see the boat if you are there at the same time.

As for the loss of your job, I'm sure you have heard the old adage that "when one door closes, another one opens". She is a beautiful boat. Very slippery hull, well mannered, and the gybe was just about perfect. I’d feel better with a boom brake, too. You guys did very well through the nerve-wracking navigation. It is exhausting. I wish you well on your career transition. I think many people have made the change to a “work at home” environment since the pandemic. The question is now, along with your videography, can you use talents you do have while sailing. “Sailing Delos” would probably be good to ask. Brian Trautman and his wife (who is Swedish) have been on You-Tube for 10 years sailing around the world aboard their 10+ year old Super Maramu ketch. Brian does all the work on the boat. They have a toddler who must be two years old now. As far as experience goes, I think he would be the one to ask.

The inside passage, with it's narrow channels and high tidal currents is not for the faint of heart. Have been smacked around pretty good during trips up and down it. If you want to read a good overview of it read "In The Wake of An Alaskan Mailboat". The skipper of that mailboat and the writer of the book are personal friends. You can also read "Cheechakos" and 'This Raw Land". It's all good practice for the Gulf of Alaska ahead. :-D

Your gybe was fine. Your mainsheet block should have been able to handle that shock load as it was not extreme. I don’t think you need to over-analyse it any further. Just replace all the mainsheet blocks to avoid a repeat. And keep calm and carry on gybing. 😊

A true sailing channel. Authentic. Btw when in doubt about the gybe and not wanting to go on deck I have in the past, I had children aboard and never regretted this gybe, turned motor on and made the board turn the other way around. Making it tack, waves can be nasty, but it doesn't break things. Just bumpy. Cheers.

The Menai Straits in North Wales are one of the most difficult passages in the UK. The narrowest part, the Swellies, has huge flood tides and ancient volcanic rocks that have ripped open countless boats. I did it under sail with a local sailing instructor. Wow! At least all the markers are nearly always in place

An easy trick with jibes is ... start with the sail near luff ... yes ... sheet out ... then as it jibes ... turn upwind ... for a soft landing. It's counter to the whole start sheet in close, but in fact it makes much more sense.

This is one of my favorite sailing channels. I have really enjoyed you two being on the western coast of the USA. My home! I am excited for your new chapter and focusing on video! Wish I could of bought you two a coffee, I am close to the port of coos bay or Winchester bay in Oregon. I found your channel not long after your first few videos. I liked that it’s not all booty shots in bikinis. I also like that it’s not all tropical sailing since I live where the ocean is cold and challenging. I hope the states and Canada have treated you well and that you may make your way back some day. I wouldn’t mind seeing a little of your day to day life on the boat and how you prepare for the longer passages. I do like the longer videos. Once a week would probably benefit the algorithm.

Red and green markers, known as ‘Junction Buoys’, indicate the intersection of two different channels. The colored stripe on top indicates the primary or preferred channel for navigation. Port-Junction Buoys (green on top with a red horizontal band in the middle) must be kept on the port side when heading upstream. Starboard-Junction Buoys (red on top and have a green horizontal band in the middle) must be kept on the starboard when you’re heading upstream.
