Galen Rupp runs 3:50.92 in the mile at the 2013 BU Terrier Invitational in an American Record attempt at the distance. The time was the second fastest all-time by an American and the fifth fastest all-time in the world. Bernard Lagat still owns the American record with his 3:49.89.

RunFor OurLives NEVER. FAILED. A. DRUG. TEST. If what he was doing was illegal, he would've already been caught and banned. He was doing shady things, however they were in a gray area. Frowned upon but not illegal.

Mason Miller I agree with you there. Cheating is cheating. But if he's never been proven a cheater, we can't invalidate any of his performances. How do you prove a cheater? A failed drug test. We should be spending more time attacking Kenyan athletics for not having stricter testing. Seems like every month someone is getting popped for pissing hot but we have one guy in the US that's in the hot seat

Run Jaymes o yeah you’re definitely right on that one.. I don’t even think they care because it’s so lucrative for them to win I definitely wonder, I’ve watched a lot of videos on it and they say most are encouraged to use because it makes the country look good. If no ones judging you I’m sure most wouldn’t bat an eye over it. Sad because a lot of us just trying to get to the top would also have to cheat to even be on the same playing field and if you’re not willing to they will find someone else. I agree we shouldn’t say guilty until proven innocent it’s innocent until proven guilty. Unfortunately the media doesn’t care about that and will destroy your character regardless in the pursuit of the almighty dollar $ :(

I remember thinking as soon as the first lap was slow that they didn’t stand a chance, but a good attempt despite the shy first pacer. It’s just too hard to drop 2 seconds from the 1st to 2nd 200 and still have a shot at the record.

I would also add that this is an attempt on the INDOOR American record. At the time of this race Steve Scott held the US record for the mile at 3:47.69.

They're pace setters, or "rabbits". They train to run a portion of the race at a certain pace to assist people in record setting. They have no intention of finishing before the race even starts.
