"5am and we want to get going at 4 so we're doing alright" that's the kind of passage planning that allows for the Whisky then :-)! Pretty impressive pitching on those boats coming out of Wick! Canned food to Highland Beef and Champagne - definitely improvements with Ruth on board - plus nice for us to have someone to film you! Good luck on your next sail!

Great footage, thanks for that. Have been following you since your Hawaii voyage, and was hoping you would make it to Northern Ireland but still enjoying all your posts anyway. A point to consider: those jacklines won't save you if you fall or are washed overboard. A number of sailors have died whilst being dragged alongside their boat by a long tether. In one case, a full race crew was unable to recover the casualty before he drowned so there is very little chance that Holly would be able to get you back on board - or vice versa. A better solution is an inboard jackline and a short enough tether to stop you from going overboard even if you fall. More difficult to rig but probably worth the effort. These are not forgiving waters.

You are a great inspiration to many people and thank you for that. Allow me to give you some advice on your auto helmet. The best way to use it is in connection with your wind rudder, where you attach the plywood board. Wind rudder requires almost no power and steers fantastically at calm winds and with motor sailing. Greetings Claus from Denmark

Love the video, always interesting and really well shot and edited. Hope that one day you might get round to publishing your ‘log’ with personal notes on some of your favourite stopping off ports. Would make interesting reading in the long winter nights for us land bound sailors. Nice to see you making friends you encounter along the way . Can I suggest that you fit weather dodgers to your guard rails along either side of your cockpit. They give you extra protection from the wind, especially when sailing in northern climes. Thanks again for sharing your experiences, can’t wait for the next episode, good luck and fair winds for rest of your voyage. Colin

Sam, great work again! Love these videos, very real. I feel like I wouldn't be able to handle the rolling, the movement, but it's so much fun watching these vids and dreaming about it. Maybe someday I will have a small sailboat and sail in the bays, in the intercoastal, no storms. And of course would be nice to have a lovely lady on board, that makes the adventure 1000x more interesting.

Sam, I've got to say I have a great deal of respect for your courage. I've sailed in Scotland and in the Baltic but never this late in the year. To sail from Shetland to Norway at this time? Well, most sailors I know just wouldn't. But you are much younger than I am and obviously much braver. So more power to you. I might suggest that, if you haven't already discovered it, you have a look at windguru. I have found their forecasts among the best for Northern Europe. Its pretty sobering for the next week, by the way!
