If it was the real Dražen Petrović position, he would said it for sure at least several, or even dozen of times - he gave many interviews. But he doesn't, he wasn't like that. He give no credit to anybody. Anybody. Not Galis, not Michael Jordan. Nobody. He was natural born winner with constant progress in game. That's why he was the best - winner competition mentality and greatest worker and training man among basketballers.
@@mixailm5680 For me, he is the second. His own league. Incredible player. I admire him even more, because he wasn't tall, and he could overthrow anybody, even Sabonis. His jump back shoot is from another planet. It is incredible that best european players - petrović, galis, marcioulonis, sabonis shared same era + oscar schmidt from Brazil. When Dražen still played in Europe, him and Nikos were the same - you couldn't said who was better. But Dražen i NBA even improved his already existed perfection which is incredible itself, and with his 'hungry' mentality looks like he would be even better in future. That's why I consider he is the best ever (maybe the same would be with Nikos if he join NBA, a I really don't know)
Μost talented and hard working player ever! Look at his shoulders and his feet! 1.83 and NOBODY could guard him! He's a magician in dribbling, passing and scoring against the BEST! No other player EVER did such extraordinary shots in front of giants like Sabonis, Divac, Tkatchenko etc...His legendary training, his proffesionalism and his fantasy in the game had never exist before him in European basketball. He is a cut above the rest.

In the 80's Petrovic was the most talented, Sabonis the most dominant, Meneghin the most agressive, Epi the most regular and Galis the best offensive player among the europeans (Oscan was from Brazil).
sabonis is the best european center.I can accept this.but Nick took a team of mediocre teammates and led them to winning the european championship in 87 and 2 years after he played his best game against the soviet union in the semi finals.the former soviet union coach a.gomelsky,said:for all the other players we did our plans and tactics.for Galis we just did our prayers.face it man.what he did,was similar to what maradona did in1986.I respect sabonis but there is simply no comparison here.
Yeah, but 1989 they've lost and he could lead his team to a single EuroLeague Championship. Dražen led his team of mediocre teammates twice. And these are the only times in history Cibona won EuroLeague Championships. He was the best scorer in the Olympic finals against the Dream team - a team that had Micheal Jordan... Galis was great, but obviously not great enough.

@@DrDomich What are you talking about? Mediocre Cibona? Cibona was champion of Yugoslavia in 1984 BEFORE Drazen joined Cibona plus in 1982 they were the European Cup winners against Real Madrid. In Cibona were playing Alexander Petrovic, Nakic, Knego, Cutura, Cvjeticanin, Usic who played for the National team of Yugoslavia (i think there were some other national players too). Of course with Drazen they exploded but saying Cibona was mediocre is pretty inaccurate. In 1989 of course Greece lost. How could they compete with a team so talented at their home after a huge victory that totally drained them against the Golden Olympic medalist USSR with only 5 players (as our bench was shit and didn't play at all). To understand the gravity of those wins just compare the strength of roster of Zalgiris and USSR and you will see what a miracle it was for Greece to beat that team twice. Now about Aris. Aris before Galis was nothing in continental level (as it was the whole Greek basketball). They only had Galis and Giannakis and the rest of them were either mediocre or shitty players. If Aris had Fanis like the Greek National team then Aris most likely would have done it as Greek National team did. It is fair to assume that.

Galis(playmaker), Drazen Petrovic(shooting guard), Drazen Dalipagic (as small forward and not toni kukoc), Dirk Nowitzki (power forward) , Arvydas Sabonish(center). These are the best European players of each position, ever! Of course, Galis was playing as a shooting guard in the national team of Greece and Petrovic as a play maker in Yugoslavia/Croatia, but if i want to assemble a european team with the best players ever , want to put Drazen and Nik together , so i'd put Nik as a play maker coz not only can he score at will, but he's a great passer as well and good in steals too and he was playing as a play maker in NCAA, and i'd put Drazen as a shooting guard to bomb from the 3p line. For 2nd best team i'd put 1. Sergey Belov 2.Marchulionis 3.Stojakovic 4. Detlef Shchrempf 5.Pau Gasol. Then i would add two more players , Divac and Ibaka(for defense) and i would have a team of 12 players and then i'd go and play against the American all time best team , where i'd chose 1.Magic 2. Jordan 3.Bird 4.Duncan 5.Kareem , and for 2nd team 1.Stockton 2. Steph Curry( i want the best shooter of all times as shooting guard in my team) 3. Kevin Durant 4.Anthony Davis(i consider him better than Malone and Barkley) 5.Wilt , and then i'd also include inside the team the likes of Bill Russel and Dennis Rodman (best defender ever).
the best is very relative and opininated but galis with a support cast that was no match beated the USSR(UNITED SOVIET UNION TEAM) twice for a gold and silver medal..44 and 45 points..there is nothing relative to that,,also he managed to score absolutely impossible points countless time in his career and was always the best scorer of all world and european tournaments and best average and international fiba ppg of all times!!! 32.8 and 33 plus..that makes him a unique unstoppable phenomenon that was the most entertaining player to watch scoring in the face of anyone who was standing in front of him no matter what..so there where many players to admire for their skillset that were abolutely amasing but nick was simply superhuman and out of reference because noone regardles how mighty ever managed to contain him ...EVER..imagine a boxer that always nocked out all his opponents..the only other player that did that was you know who..
The title of the video is clear enough, it says " Galis and Sabonis ", not " Galis vs. Sabonis ", so the creator of the vid is not trying to compare the two players, who were and still are true legends for what they offer to European Basketball. even though sabonis is clearly limited because of injuries to both achilles' tendons, he was still a beast and played very intelligently. this is the first time i ever see nikos galis, and he was amazing, it seems he's always a step ahead, and he takes and makes ridiculous shots without thinking twice. it's a marvel, basketball was so advanced worldwide, so if some particular player never played in the nba it is our loss, not theirs.
You are absolutely right. There were some prominent players in Europe during the 1980s (I don't remember the 1970s) like Galis, Oscar, Drazen, Sabas, and Dalipagic. I am convinced that if they had played in the NBA from the age of 20 and were treated equally within their teams (because international players were not highly regarded as they are now, where they can become franchise players and No. 1 draft picks), they would have been multiple-time All-Stars. Depending on where they landed, they might even have altered the course of the NBA. For instance, if Galis had been signed by the Celtics, they might have had enough firepower to overpower the Lakers during the 1980s. I believe that's why Auerbach said that not signing Galis was the only big mistake in his career. Or if a young and healthy Sabonis had been on the Blazers squad, they might have had enough talent to earn a couple of championships.

This might be the best game in Galis' career (of course it's hard to say as there were many huge games of Galis). Don't forget that USSR was the GOLD Olympic medalist. Only 9 months prior to that game USSR beat the later European champion Yugoslavia relatively easily 76-63. It was a superpower. But on the other hand Galis was superhuman. It wasnt just that he scored 45, it was the fact that he beat them on his own. He scored more than half of his team points (45 out of 81) against a far better team. Greece was so weak overall that they played almost the entire game with the same starting 5. Yet Galis was so athletic that could play the whole game, take so many difficult shots (Galis wasn't shooting soft triples like other conventional and one dimensional scorers of that era but was playing close contact 1 vs1 or 1 vs 2 or 1 vs 3 as we can see in that video) and still deliver with sky high FG%. That is why he was nicknamed Iron Man. His strength and stamina was monumental. That was definitely a story where David beats the Goliath just like it happened in 1987 as well. That victory proved that what happened in 1987 wasn't just because Greece played at home. After those games that stunned the basketball world of Europe the Soviet legend Belov said "I admire him. When he plays one on one, there's no way to stop him. I didn't think that there would ever be a player, who by himself, could cause nightmares and even beat the Soviet Union." and "Individually and in the 1 vs 1 game he is definitely the best in Europe. What he did in the final of 1987 and the semifinal of 1989 against our team was unbelievable and at one point I thought he was from another planet" The soviet coach Alexander Gomelsky also stated "Galis is the player of the 21st century." These statements show how helpless the Soviets felt and how advanced Galis' game was for that era. Most importantly these statements came from the team that dominated in that period as Soviet Union ranked higher even than Yugoslavia in the tournaments of 1985, 1986 1987 and 1988.

i think that palyers like sabonis, marciulionis, petrovic, galis cant be better a lot of each other and its hard to decide who is better, im from lithuania, so i say sabas or marcela, croatian says that petrovic, greeks- gallis. i like them all anyway
every1 who watched the game USA-Greece (MudoBasket in which we won) could say this: after the game all greek players were exhausted and wet oand on the other hand the americans could easily play another match like that :)
What do you expect him to do exactly man? Eat his breakfast while crossing over his defender or something lol? Greece won that night against a team that was superior and he scored more than half of the points. That was the "casual" thing he used to do pretty much all the time. You got to pay respect where respect is due...ps. Sabonis is the best center Europe has ever seen. Galis is among the 2-3 best shooting guards. No head to head comparison is possible between these two.
I don't know if Galis was a better player than Sabonis, actually u can't compare them a lot since the one was a point guard and the other a center. The truth though is, that in the last seconds of the game, everybody tried to find Galis and if he did get the ball everyone and mostly his opponents knew what the outcome would be... 2 pts at least.

You compare Sabonis and Pertovic Divac or Kukoc? you sick. In this video Galis scored 45 points , Sabonis only 19 but he grab about 20 rebound and block 5 shots. Sabonis is best europian player in history , and there is no more what to say.

Funny how his statline in international competition says that he won the scoring title all the time with a 60 plus fg and he is the only person ever to have 4 scoring titles in eurocups averaging over 30 in all of those!!! Its so funny its hilarious!its also very funny that he is the first euro bb player to get one million per year contract and holds the fiba record for scoring tiill today and most assists in one game..very funny indeed..we are all laughing so hard!

Sabonis was better player,its doesnt matter that Galis use to score a lot of points.Sabas he was not just a player,he was a legend.But Galis was as well very great player.
