WEDNESDAY 3RD 2010 - THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ENDING OF THE MINERS' STRIKE
As part of a series of events to commemorate The Miners' Strike and celebrate the mining industry, Alan and Cheryl Gerrard of Theartbay Gallery put on a "Question Time" style debate at the Forum Theatre within the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, to discuss the legacy of The Miners' Strike over the last 25 years; an episode in Britain's recent past which continues to affect millions of people, both directly and indirectly.
It was a highly charged, emotional, but articulate and constructive debate.
What you have here is sections of the raw footage. Enjoy!

It took place on March 3rd 2010, the 25th anniversary of the ending of the strike. It was also the day Michael Foot passed away.

Kind of think Edwina showed some guts doing this since she was never going to get an easy ride (and rightly so...)

I am all for people owning business but its clear that greed is not good for the nation and that we all have to pay through the nose for everything and until something is done to stop this we will work like my grandad until we die

Arthur was right a true class warrior, the class struggle goes on the state now attacks the public service workers and blames immigrants and unemployed for the statistics of their shameful system. Respect to the miners, workers of the world unite

I have never heard that she admitted that she did such a thing out of malice-what is the reference?

Terrible audio. Tables banging, ruffled personal mics, even the audience came over clearer. Such a shame.

she admitted a few years off the cuff to a reporter that is why she did it I am sorry I have no point of reference but believe me she dud it for that purpose and the result is over the top charges for imported coal which is still very much needed.

Who is "we"? Union leaders were sympathetic. They even said so themselves. The NUM leader Scargill was openly pro-Soviet. McGathy was a member of the CPGB. Scargil loved what he called the socialist countries. Ditto Scnalon. The Labour Party was taken over by the militant? What is that supposed to mean? There were exceptions on the left notably Eric Heffer but they were exceptions.

Complacency rather than arrogance. Let's face it, that's pretty well human nature. I wonder how poor people in England really are. Is it not a fact that nearly everyone can afford drinks in England despite the fact that alcohol is eye wateringly expensive in Britain?

Predictable arrogance of the self assured know it all better oh god im suffering oh God my class is wonderful socialists

i agree it is over the top expensive but to desimate two industries out of revenge which is what thatcher did was criminal in my book you think different of course but a fact is a fact and she admitted the fact years later it was done out of malice towards the miners regardless of scargills loyalties he said in 83 that they planned to close all but a few mines and they denied it but it came true did it not?

At least no more generations of young working class men, will spend the best years of their lives down a dirty stinking coal mine.

ted heaths policies ruined the economy not the unions as you said in your own words the slide began in 1970 and the miners had not been on strike since 1926 so don't blame the unions pal you need to read up on it

Sentimental twaddle you only fought to keep a strangle hold over the country. The miners were not needed and not wanted.

Coal mining should have been ended in the 1970s.
