I’ve used Gallup for the last 5 years. Good stuff! And yes I tend to do 2nd application after roughly 7 days. Far cheaper and more effective than a lot of expensive brands out there.
I used a 2nd application probably because I was being impatient waiting for results. It seems from Feakre's comment below that 1 application should be fine. I agree some do grow back....some seem to stay dead but some can be stubborn so may need treating again....and regularly in the growing season
Hi Tom, try this: 1 Litre spray bottle, fill with white vinegar leaving a small gap at the top. Pour in one cup of salt and then give a good quirt of washing liquid into the mix . Cheap solution and honestly works, I use it and it kills weeds down to the root in hours with just a few squirts. Safe to use too and does not harm animals.
Hi Dean...thanks for that....trouble is all weeds are dead now ...BUT...when they are back next year or if I can find some somewhere to try it on I will do...I like trying experiments so it's one to remember It will actually work out dearer for a litre of vinegar (this mixture works out at 26p per litre) but will try when I get chance
This may appear to kill off weeds within hours but it doesn’t work as well as a proper weedkiller that inhibits the growth enzyme. This will grow back.
You probably didn’t need the second application. Glyphosate gets absorbed by the leaves, travels into the roots and inhibits the growing enzymes. This process can take a few weeks and the plant may not show much sign of dying in the meantime. However, once it takes effect, the plant can go from looking almost normal to all brown and dead pretty much overnight. I use the 490g/l version and have killed off full grown bushes with a single application. It’s very effective. Also remember that there’s no point spraying it on soil. It’s only absorbed via leaves so if you spray it on soil in between weeds, you’re wasting that spray.
Speaking from somewhere that has banned glyphosate for the last several years, i would advise you all to stock up. It is due to be banned from sale in the UK in December 2025 and all the vinegar based alternatives are absolute crap. They only kill the foliage for a couple of weeks, three weeks after application the weeds are back, it doesn't matter how much salt or washing up liquid you add, the roots are untouched. I would suggest that you don't leave it to the last minute, over here, months before the ban came in, retailers couldn't keep it on the shelves because people were stocking up, and the prices went through the roof. It will keep for several years if you store it in a dark place with stable temperatures.
@@TomsManShed Hi Tom, Sorry for the delayed reply, its been a busy couple of days. I'm in France, they banned it here in 2020, and the weed problem has become exponentially worse each year. The local town council has gotten to the point now where they strim the pavements rather than treat them with anything (not joking). If I'd known how ineffective the alternatives were, I'd have been better prepared, but I foolishly assumed that they wouldn't ban it without there being a decent replacement. I really should have known better. Stock up while you can. All the best.
Hi...I googled it and there are various answers...some say indefinitely..some say 5 years ...some say 8 years....so basically I would say many years if kept in a coolish place...this is for the undiluted stuff as it comes in the container.....any diluted stuff ready to use like whats left in the sprayer evidently doesn't last long
Hi Andy...used to watch you when I was little :) ....seriously though yes its amazing how much it has gone up....about double what it was last time I bought it...good job it lasts so long
Hi SloopyDog.....It is ...BUT I don't know of anything cheaper. Don't forget though that it is in concentrated form and once you dilute with water at the recommended ratio it only works out at 26p per Liter .....FAR cheaper than any ready to use alternative.
@@B1000ad It's retailing at about £100 per 5 litres, on eBay. A few years ago I paid 25 pounds per 5 litres. I saw on the news the government is trying to ban it.
@@TomsManShedIt’s dropping in price at the moment. Don’t buy from Amazon or eBay. I just got a 5l bottle of 490g/l Gallup concentrate for £59.99. Google is definitely your friend!
You are using too much spray, don't pump up the pressure too much, in fact keep it very low one or two pumps and top up when required. That minimalizes stray spray, also add a drop or two dishwasher liquid to the sprayer, it makes it stick to the weeds and penetrates any protective film on the weeds.
Hi MsWearer...I don't really know ...I googled it and it said any strong Glyphosate (which it is) should do but seems you have to do other things like dig the roots.
