@@Molderon Doing a quick google search and research, I have found nothing to back your claim? I mean, Albert Einstein probably had a completely different kind of IQ test as times change and knowledge change etc etc. I found absolutely nothing about him saying shit about IQ regardless. With Hawking, I did find him saying "people who boast about their IQ are losers" but that doesn't mean he says IQ is irrelevant. It just means that he thinks these so called smart people are losers for trying to act better than others based on their IQ. If you got sources that say otherwise though, I would love to see them.
Another thing that is comical is Marge complained about homer having a handgun, yet he had a shotgun before and still does and marge does not complain.
Yeah the gun episode is kind of weird. It's pretty well established in the show that Homer has a shotgun and hunting rifles. Whatever it makes me laugh I'm not complaining I'm not a nerd.
are we just ignoring "none of this would have happened if you had been here to keep me from acting stupid" that's good too i love gamblor though good line
Relapsing is a sign of weakness, or as the modern generation calls it, a “skill issue.” Real ones cold-turkey quit. If it’s making your life suck, stop it; period. ✋ 🛑
@@hobomike6935 Everyone is "weak," including you. Stop acting so sanctimonious, not everyone can quit cold turkey for everything. Gambling is one thing, but quitting substances cold turkey can cause health problems. This isn't a black and white thing. And either way, we're not focused on what's "strong," we're focused on what's realistic, and the truth is that most people relapse from time to time.
Wait, what? I prefer the Latin American dub: "Maggie rió, fue tan confuso" (then Maggie laught, it was so confusing). I will always say, the Lantin American dub is funnier than the original
This is a tiny thing but i’m glad that Homer doesn’t just end up blaming Marge for her gambling addiction and instead blames the casino. It’s a touching thing to show his love and respect for his wife.
I always felt bad for Homer when Lisa calls herself a monster, because Homer really did do his best making the costume, he put himself through a lot of pain to make a costume the only way he knew how.
3:23 (Homer screaming unintelligibly) "Homer, what is it? Slow down!" "JER GEDDA FERDA REDDA ARA!" "Think before you say each word!" Definitely one of my favorite bits of Homer/Marge dialogue.
yeah. thats because in the early episodes she also had childish characteristics. such as bart was a rowdy but sometimes choose to do good stuff. and homer was dumb but sometimes his heart tells him exactly what to do. and marge as you can see was not always perfect and boring. little bit more complex back then. thats what people miss about the simpson theese days.
I've been doing some maths on this one, because I was curious. Smithers said she'd been there for 75 hours. A rough timing on the clip shows she was pulling the lever on that bandit every two seconds. 75 hours is 270,000 seconds and, assuming she kept up that rate, that is 135,000 turns on the machine. Each turn costs a quarter, so she spent $33,750 in that time. And she only won sixty dollars. Gambling is a mugs game.
Well, since you win back some of the money, you don't actually spend $33,750, you need to take into account the difference between losses and winings. Tipically the slot machines have a return between 90 and 95% for 1 dollar. At the end it's quite impressive that she even won sixty dollars, with such an amount of turns it'd be almost a given that she'd be down by thousands of dollars.
@@timesnewlogan2032 I agree with statements like that to an extent, but I think it oversimplifies the fact that it is incredibly predatory and addictive. If you sat and asked people who were addicted to gambling if they knew about the House edge and the fact that they will only lose money over time, they'd almost certainly have already known and would agree. Louis Theroux did a really fantastic documentary on gambling and addiction, "Louis Theroux gambling in las vegas"
His super power is making citizens have crippling gambling addictions and getting himself rich off of them, but since he owns the casino he’s technically not breaking the law so the hero can’t do shit
"No, Lisa. The only monster here is the gambling monster that has enslaved your mother. I call him Gamblor! And it's time to snatch your mother from his neon claws!"
@@moist603 I mean, he has a point. The guy didn't add anything to what Homer said, he just quoted it verbatim without any insight. Now, if OP had mentioned a funny memory or a story, or even that he found that part to be the funniest to him it would've been different.
Even though Lisa sounded ungrateful, seeing Homer tear up a little, to me, meant that he didn't feel offended but understood that Lisa said that because of how much she misses her and how she felt that her own mom broke a promise to her own daughter
Philip Sadler made even sadder when it’s coming from the character who is typically the idiotic comic relief, it’s like he gained a moment of awareness.
Jimmy Hu what lengths? He’s selfish, lazy, and stupid. He’s always spending time at moe’s, ignores his family, never helps around the house unless he is forced to, always does something stupid that affects his family. Need I go on. He’s a terrible father and husband
Ken Hernandez yeah, in this episode Mr. Burns gets bored and opens a casino after Springfield relaxes its gambling laws. It’s wildly successful but of course things happen and everything goes back to normal by the end.
"We're required by law to ask every 75 hours." I love how they indirectly showed how long Marge was staying at the casino. And how non-nonchalantly Smithers said it.
I just love what they did with Homer. A complicated mix of a loving father and husband but at the same time the worst father and husband a man could be.
I wouldn't say "the worst", just "the dumbest". Old simpsons' homer was characterized as an angry and stupid but sympathetic father (minus the whole strangling bart bit), it's essentially what prevented homer from being all round evil or at least annoying to watch like he became later on.
2:41 Homer welling up after giving everything he had to help his daughter and hearing (and probably agreeing) that it was a monstrosity hits hard. And instead of taking it personally he quietly accepts he is worthless and vows to get back the one who isn't.😢 He doesn't even blame Marge for being absent. Homer has his moments
At least this time he didn't run in yelling with a knife in hand or a chainsaw. Or tell him at bedtime that he could wake up dead tomorrow. Or put tape over his eyes making him think he was blind when waking up.
@@Bianchiboy If you want to understand, part of the reason is that copying it in a comment is a way of saying that they like that scene and don't want to add anything else that would degrade the comment overall
I never payed attention to Homers reaction when Lisa calls herself a monster. He did the best he could in the short time he had but he knew marge would have done a better job if she had kept her promise to Lisa.
I… take it you haven’t seen “Bart vs. Thanksgiving”? Or the episode where she brings up “deep theological questions”? Or the one where she says cartoons aren’t “100% realistic”?
When you realize later seasons Homer would've only have pulled Marge away by committing some heinous crime and forcing Marge to spend her Quarters to bail him out of jail...
When Lisa has a bad dream is one of the best moments of the entire series. The fact that he already put a few rounds through the front door when Marge comes home.
"Remember when I got caught stealing all those watches from Sears? WELL THAT'S NOTHING BECAUSE YOUUU HAVE A GAMBLING PROBLEM! And remember when I let that escaped lunatic in the house 'cause he was dressed like Santa Claus? WELL YOUUU HAVE A GAMBLING PROBLEM!"
Remember when you told me off for making spurious misquotes on RU-vid comments?! WELLLLLLL THATS NOTHING BECAUSE YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HAVE A GAMBLING PROBLEM!
"I call him Gamblor" lol i love this. It just goes to show how childish Homer is, and how we are all kind of childish when dealing with real adult problems
3:17, “He can’t talk now!” Can we all just point out how Homer stopped looking for Marge just to yank the phone out of the guy’s hand just to say that and hang up?! 🤣
Fast Forward Videos I don't see any shot showing something else. Perhaps you're seeing the close up shot of the door with a wrong perspective? Also, think about it - how does Marge open the door so easily if it's to the inside? Knowing the Simpsons' writers, they wouldn't gloss over such a detail, definitely when there's a low hanging practical joke they can insert
I think the door opening to the inside is only for visual effects. That joke with the barricade is intended, the chairs etc, are falling outside of the room. The door opening inside is the mistake.
I thought it was both a funny and very sweet touch bow Homer's freakout in the casino caused all those people to win their bets. A heartful old detail of the series.
" If I don't show up in a rubber suit shaped like the state of Florida, I'll be the laughing stock of the whole school!" - A joke that went completely over my head as a kid. Classic Simpsons is brilliant!
1:45 when Homer tosses the shotgun it goes off accidentally. That little joke has GOT to be a John Swartzwelder gag...the early episodes that he wrote are classics, and definitely my favorites, by far.
Swartzwelder was a great writer… but he didn’t write this one. It was written by Greg Daniels who developed the American version The Office and also co created King of the Hill with Mike Judge. So of course, a guy who helped make great shows was talented enough to write episodes like these. Other episodes that Greg Daniels wrote were Bart Sells His Soul , Homer Badman and also THOH horror segments Devil and Homer Simpson and Time and Punishing.
Homer scary face when Lisa tells him about the boogeyman is always so hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 give to the man who animated that expression an Oscar, a Grammy and a Nobel prize!
Homer: Marge we need to talk. You're spending too much time at the casino and I think you may have a problem. Marge: I won $60 last night! Homer: WOOHOO Problem Solved!!! That's classic Homer
When I first saw this episode I lived in Scotland. Never once did I think I would actually live in Florida. I have lived here in Florida now for 9 years. Lisa was right. It's a monster.
I love that Homer knows it was stupid lol. The episodes I grew up watching like this made my childhood haha. We would you quote these episodes in elementary school haha
It's interesting that they show Marge's vulnerabilities through addiction (alcohol in one episode and gambling here) since there's a huge genetic component to it and her sisters are addicted to smoking
Lisa is ungrateful, that is the most accurate florida costume I've ever seen. He matched even the grayish brown color of the land due to the extreme heat and waste everywhere.
I like how in this episode a buffoon like Homer is trusted with a shotgun and it's no big deal to Marge, then later we have a whole episode dedicated to her taking issue with him buying and owning a firearm, weird inconsistencies largely down to Simpsons starting to "change" while it was still decent and actually funny are one of the best bits about rewatching it at its peak haha.
