I do love that RamCharger. They are going the Gas-Electric vehicle route and I’m a huge nerd of the way Diesel-Electric trains work. You still get the awesome torque and instant response of an electric powertrain but the ease, fast, range and reliability of an engine powering it.
I'm with you 100%. A locomotive is just an electric vehicle with its own generator and this makes sense in a pickup as well. And for we RVers having a generator and the torque from a dead stop is yet another huge plus.
It’s a matter of time before they go diesel/electric in HD pickups I think. Right now we have the HO Powerjoke at 500/1200, can you imagine a diesel/electric? If they did it right, we’re talking north of 1500ft-lbs and over 1000 mile range probably. A towing SOB
Or why not a RNG generator. We in the states have a very strong infrastructure, low if not 0 emissions, under $2 a gallon. I believe class 8 trucks will be moving in that direction.
@@Kenopshi-q7c You obviously don't understand a modern truck buyer. There are high end folks out there wanting the best, and 120K is a drop in the bucket.
I am a Dodge girl all the way, love the ram and has always been a good truck for me, I am on my 4th RAM. had a 2002 2500 cummins, 2004 2500 cummins , 2008 mega cab 3500 and now a 2015 1500 Hemi 5.7
Wow, the RAMCharger is the PHEV / BEV truck owners like me need. This solution is PERFECT. I do own a PHEV SUV and 95% of the time, the battery capacity is more than enough to cover daily use and for the long WE hauls with a trailer, the onboard ICE generator will top off the batteries on the way. This is not for range anxiety owners, this is for users that need to use their trucks as a daily drive and tow large trailers on the WE where a pure BEV is just not the right tool for the job. Well done RAM. I just can't wait to trade in my Rebel for this wonder, if the pricing is reasonable 😀
I do like what I'm seeing, however i do believe the hemi needs to remain an option. As long as ford and chevy still offer a v8, so should ram. Doesn't have to be standard, but should be available so customers can really have the truck of their dreams
I think once people start getting their hands on the hurricanes they won't miss their hemis for long other that the crowd that only cares about having a big rumbley v8 sound. more hp and torque, and id bet better mpg.
@@digger450r same argument could be made for the ecoboost. Same power as the 5.0, but better economy. A vast majority of f150s on the road are 3.5 ecoboosts. But yet there is still the opinion for the 5.0. I'm not saying you are wrong, but i think it still needs to be an available option for those who want it
No V8 option and Hurricane H.O. is only available on longhorn and limited trim levels. Good luck selling a V6 or an I6 truck when the competition still has V8s in their low & mid level trims.
@@Lq32332 "Ford buyers," enough said. 🏳️🌈 Lol, but seriously, I do hope it works out. There's still reliability and longevity of the motor to consider, which, at least for me, is most important. All these big SUVs that have small I4s see issues way earlier in life than they ever should... they're overworked. Hopefully, that same issue doesn't happen here.
I really can't believe they built the Ram Charger. This is EXACTYL what I've been looking for because it works just like a chevy Volt but with superior range.
Hurricane H.O. is only available on limited and longhorn trims... wow. Ram must be looking to exit the market of anyone with less than $100k to spend on a truck.
I'm not expecting it to be cheap, but it won't be TRX prices either. The battery is relatively small compared to other truck offerings (which is fine in this configuration). The engine driving the generator is the pentastar v6 that they've had for absolutely ages, and it's a relatively low output because again, it doesn't need to be a monster in this configuration. A sub 300hp motor that can store that energy into the battery for when more is needed is everything I ever wanted from a hybrid. The Ramchargers will be available in multiple trims from what I've read, from a tradesman all the way up to a tungsten. If I had to put an educated guess on this, I'd say ramcharger will be a $10k-$14k premium over the standard model. Big Horns will still be readily affordable, as will lower optioned laramies. A tungsten is easily going to crest the 6 figure mark I'd guess. Anything less then $10k over a hurricane powered truck is an absolute no brainer. And most importantly, this is a "1500" that could EASILY be classified as a 2500. 14k towing is nuts, It's probably going to weigh in the 7-8k range which will also help with stability when towing that much. I didn't want to deal with diesels so I was really looking at f-250's with the godzilla motor because I regularly tow 8k to 10k. I will now be holding out to see how this thing fairs before I ever consider dropping the money on a 3/4 ton truck now. Ram, you want someone to put it through it's paces when they're ready, holla at ya boi here lol
I got excited for a minute thinking they were bringing the actual Ramcharger back. Was really looking forward for that. Still not sold on the EV market. The Hurricane engine sounds cool but still think the Hemi needs to be an option as well as the Cummins. Absolutely love my 2018 2500 Cummins.
I removed myself from the list of potential buyers, when the Hemi stopped being available without the ridiculous (and now problematic) e-torque system. Now? Looks like I'm gonna drive my 2019 until the wheels fall off. And if the 5.7 dies, I'll build and swap in a 6.4.
I'm really interested in seeing how the Ramcharger performs in the wild. I love my 1500, but I could see myself moving to the RC at some point if it does everything that it seems to!
Ditto. I'm super excited about the EV future, but we are not there yet. So a mix seems to be what many folks like me are looking for. I'm sure once the battery market figures out a few shortcomings, full EVs will be the only way to go, but we aren't there just yet.
Wow! The RAMCHARGER is what we've been waiting for! The best of both worlds. Just make sure it has a truck size bed please, and if it incorporates the open the back option of the REV then even better! I"m in line!
If your referring to the midgate, that was a joke... Ram changed their mind regarding that idea when they went with a modern frame bed and not unibody...
Probably wont be too bad. The battery is where the money is, and 92kwh is less than half of Ram EV or Hummer battery. The pentastar is the cheapest (and most reliable) engine Chrysler makes. My guess is this thing will start at $60k and end at $85k. Not too far off a gas truck.
I mean they could have brought back the actual ram charger instead of ruining it 😂 and it brought back the Dakota and then also made like you said a mid size electric in that platform.
Brave. Ram charger skipped a power train generation of technology. Expected this in 2032 not 2025. Expensive and complex, but really innovative. Those with solar will daily commute for free. Next generation will have probably solid state batteries taking 1/3 the mass out. Good platform for 15 years or 2 truck generations. GMC always leads power train engineering of the big 3. RAM good work you skipped ahead on this one, a really good long term investment. hopefully but probably to early to have a version in the la auto show in a week or so..
I've owned my 2014 Chevy Volt for 7 years and it's been a great little car, but I still use my 2015 Silverado to tow and haul stuff. I like the RAMCHARGER idea and hope they can build it as well or even better than my Volt. Having the option to choose all electric for trips under 40 miles or gas assisted for 300+ miles has made this car one of the best I have ever owned. Now, RAM is making my dream truck with an even better powertrain and I look forward to seeing it when available. 👍
I'm also a volt owner and I agree 💯 this is how to get into electric that car has been 0 issues just charge drive and gas generator for backup... Wow talk about smart. I also have ram Eco Diesel and love it for it's purposes. But this RAMCHARGER if they do it right will be the ticket! 92KW I wonder what that equals at full electric range. Locomotive tech so smart!
@@KcYukon I had heard the RAMCHARGER should get 145 miles on battery alone but I assume that is city and not highway miles. With my Volt I switch to HOLD mode if I plan to drive over 55 MPH for more than 20 miles unless I can use an L2 where I am going.
Love the new updates to the truck. And I can't wait to see these things in action. Plus, I can't wait to see what you guys do with the TRX going forward. You guys make amazing trucks. I love my 2021 RAM TRX. Best truck ever 🙌 💪❣️❤️🔥❤️🔥
RAMcharger can be a game changer, especially for truck owners who use their trucks to tow/haul. add rear-wheel steering to this and now you have a truck that turns better.
@@jordanplays-transitandgame1690 That might be the play from Tim Kuniskis. But let's see how the whole EV market is going right now. Maybe he wanted TRX to be like a banshee dodge charger more power and distinct than the ram charger and to be fully electrified
I love the range extender option and the style of this truck. I really, really hope it’s offered with a long-bed option. The 5 ft bed is relatively useless for productivity. Also, I wouldn’t buy this unless an option to plug-in were also designed into the truck for people that want to just charge from home for regular commuting.
@COBRAKAI1254 Unfortunately what we see is what we know of. The bed offerings are gonna be very much similar to what we currently have right now if I had to guess. The EVs may have a smaller bed to help improve aero dynamics to get a better range out of the electric motors and batteries. But there is going to be a work truck option for the EVs, so there is a good chance that they may offer a longer bed option for the work truck models. Only time will tell.
Glad they are thinking outside the box but should have kept the option for a V8. Wish they would have addressed the payload of this segment and with all the new tech it will drop even more. Plus, the price of these trucks will keep smart people away and sales low.
I like how this presented like an investors update panel. The kind of people who can actually afford any ram truck. Normal people will be able to afford these used at 60% total battery capacity if your lucky.
My only question, is can the motor charging the battery keep up with the power consumption of towing? If I deplete the battery entirely and have to rely on gas only, will it charge faster than it consumes power?
Oh, my God! What I feared, the V8 engine is no longer available. It's the end. The only thing i loved about Ram was its classic V8 in a modern pickup truck. Ecosocialists should be happy. Completely disappointing that the V8 engine is not even an option.
My 2023 limited is more technically advanced than I am. I couldn’t handle more technical advancements. Glad I bought my truck when I did. I will say I hope they move the 4WD selector switch up higher, I keep bumping mine putting it into 4WD without knowing it until I look down and see it’s been engaged.
I have a volt and I love this kind of concept and the ramcharger is the first vehicle in several years to catch my eye, I just hope it won't be at an absurd price!
Wow I can actually say Chevrolet, gmc, and all other car makers are not going to like this video. Ram did a wonderful job with this 1 the payload, the interior, the design how could you not spend your money on this beauty. I currently have a hemi 5.7 and this is a new generation/evolvement of how technology is suppose to be used great job ram and I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these bad boys 😊
Congratulations. Seems like you took a Lightning and made it even better. And most importantly, making a true plug in hybrid. You got a real winner there. Hopefully you can make an overland version of it as soon as possible, even at launch.
Lemme look for a stamp so I can send in my money - that Ramcharger looks like an outstanding tow vehicle for our RV lifestyle AND you won't need a separate generator when you get to the campsite. Plus with 4WD you can go more places with your towable RV. And, doggone it, we just bought a Ram 2500 and now I want this.
The gas charging motor is one of the most practical, realistic add-ons that every company since the BMW i3 should have been doing.. Great/real world video covering features with only 30 seconds of astroid drama. Well done RAM.
Will current V8 engine Ram owners pay more $ for a truck with no V8 engine? There will be a lot who won’t. Get your 2024 model year Ram 1500 with a V8 engine now.
@@KeithHobbs-ed1dc More power and torque, and marginally better fuel economy, but some truck owners just like the sound and feel of a V8 engine. Reliability of the new In-line 6 engine remains to be seen.
This should be at the top, they are still holding out on NACS, there wont be any chargers to use (good thing your truck has its own generator now)... Youre gonna need that generator unless you can use a NACS station.
Love my 2017 Big Horn with my Hemi, and when I eventually move on I am going to miss my rumble. But I like the direction Ram is going and the Ramcharger looks like a great bridge to switch to full electric. Does anyone know if my previous Ram REV insider deposit would work with the current offering or just for the Ram REV?
I had the same question, but the email i got today mentions you can choose either the Ram REV or Ramcharger when your chance to purchase arrives (this was an auto message they sent me and not a direct question i asked them)
I love our Ram trucks! These new ones look great. But honestly I think they’re going overboard with the technology. We just want a simple, capable truck that’s reliable, going to last and we can work on, like our Rams have done.
I have a 2022, replaced a 2013, its an updated version of the same radio, the new one freezes on startup every day, never had that problem with the old one. I am so sick of software
@@patkinch35that’s why I went from a warlock to an F-150 never saw my self in a ford but man I’m so happy I swapped the ford is light years better then any ram I’ve ever driven. And it’s got a 5.0 coyote!! Not stupid 6 cylinder.
The days of the simple V6/V8 2WD work truck that costs $30K is pretty much over. Or it seems to be. Maybe they will build a cheap electric at some point but that's not in the cards for now, since battery packs cost a lot, maybe the lowend Hurricane, in a stripped down interior. PERHAPS. ... this kind of video is about going up market , not down market.
Damn you guys are smart! Judging from the acceptance of the 4xE products, the way to allay the customer’s fear of EV is with a well done PHEV. This Ramcharger (thanks 70s Chrysler for thinking ahead - PERFECT NAME) will hit it out of the park. Perfect battery size, perfect engine choice. It’s the Chevy Volt serial hybrid that we always wanted but didnt get. Is 14,000lbs a record for a 1/4 ton truck? Gotta be. I’m in. I’m buying. Take my money.
@@moskovthefirst2227 true, but Chrysler lucked out with both Ramcharger and Charger names in the back catalog. Perfect EV names. Almost as good as Buick Electra or Chevy Spark.
@@moskovthefirst2227 What makes you think the are gutting the V8s? The Hurricane will do most of what they need, but something tells me the Hemi will still be made for decades, just in fewer vehicles. I personally will only miss the hemi in 6.2 and 6.4 form. Dont really care about it in something like a Durango or Cherokee if the L6 has 100 more hp, better mileage, and lower cost.
Nice video overview of what is coming from Ram, well done especially this Ramcharger which is innovative, and not available from GM or Ford or anybody else. Well done Ram engineering!
Love my 2012 Ram sport 5.7 with 53K on it. I like the sound of better gas mileage but is it a electric plus where I could plug it in at some of the free electric plugs at some places still.
This is great information. I'm really on the fence about going full EV. I've been buying new RAM trucks since 2007 and it's going to be difficult for me to make the switch from the HEMI. I'm open-minded I'm following the research and who knows maybe someday I'll trade in my 22 Limited.
Has Stellantis corrected the water leaks that develop from the rear glass? I believe that the truck filling with water may be dangerous in an all electric truck.
@Dodge, can you please make an SUV based on this Ram Recharge platform?!? I love the idea of 140+ ev miles, and still having an engine for long trips, plus ability to power the house during emergencies (does it have a 220v outlet? Might need more than 400w outlet)
one more thing, while you’re at it, the new direct drive torqueflite transmission needs the ability to lock in top gear so it can’t shift down, those turbo engines will pair up great, more capable RAM
Hope the Ramcharger powertrain trickles down to the Gladiator as its 4xe variant!! Would love to upgrade my 3.6L Gladiator to one that makes twice the power and twice the range
Now please make a plug-in electric hybrid with a solar roof option to charge the battery while standing idle on your 1500. That would be a perfect transition vehicle.
The solar roofs that have been put out so far are not very effective. But that could change. A motor to generator that is an on board charger is a real game changer ... that is cool if it is highly reliable, and the Pentastar is proven... of course the whole system has to be proven and reliable and that is not proven yet.
All I’m hearing is “we killed the V8 to appease the EPA and starting price for new Rams is going to be 60k base, but what you really want is 80-90k for a typical trim/equipped you peasant” Good luck trying to sell them when the well has ran dry on the overpriced trucks since interest rates aren’t 1-4% anymore 👍🏻
Don't get me wrong, I have been driving a Ram, (Dodge) sense the early 70s. Still do, but your killing me with the RamCharger name. To me the RamCharger/TrailDuster is the 2 Door full convertible SUV. Want to make a win with me, Bring back the RamCharger.. Other then that, Love the new trucks. I Love Love my 77 TrailDuster and my 19 2500.
