These jokes were exactly that: jokes. By getting outraged and deleting them, they're giving the 'jokes' more meaning than they ever did before. For the record, both games are great and simply have a different core game design ethos to each other. It's purely down to the players' personal preferences. If you ask me, the joke here is really on Arin and Jon.
The reason people back then talked about games as if they were either good or they sucked is because, at the end of the day, video games didn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. Now, with how much pop culture has shaped our lives, we end up treating game discussion with the same nuance expected of a political debate.

Comparing this to Ocarina is illogical. This game is a mechanical sequel to its predecessors. OOT is not. It’s basically a Zelda fan game in 3D. It’s the first of its time in that regard. This game is the polished result of previous 2D games that were flawed in ways that it’s not. OOT had no predecessors. It has lore like Zelda, sure, but mechanically, it had to be built from the ground up. The fact that it’s as well made as it is - impressive. It’s like a miracle. Neither Jon nor Arin should be comparing the two.
My favourite part about all that went down is that Jon is the one constantly considered the racist one and Arin just went along with the jokes, yet there's a comment people always miss where Jon 'breaks the fourth wall' and mentions that he reflects after he says something questionable in an episode and feels really bad, and Arin is the one that turns around and basically says he DGAF and laughs about the Jon's feelings over the matter. So thankful for compilation channels like this. I don't like giving GG the views or revenue.

I think it's way more interesting to have a decent conversation instead of just someone else enabling the other stupidity from fear of confrontation. Dan is too passive. Not exactly. His love for BOTW is proof a Zelda game doesn't need to be like LTTP for him to like it. The reality is just he has a very specific idea of what a Zelda game needs to be good and OOT didn't check off any of his self-defined requirements.
It's actually really hard to listen to, Aaron doesn't like story, he doesn't like characters and he's a very selfish player. If it doesn't impact him directly, he doesn't care about it
Many of his criticisms of Ocarina are totally valid though, regardless of his skill level, and this is coming from someone whose first Zelda game was Ocarina of Time and who still loves that game. I've played it through probably five times in the last ten or so years, and while I have my frustrations, I enjoy it greatly. But Arin raises plenty of good points in his critique of the game.
@@itsjudemydude The problem is that he doesn't level those same criticisms at other, similar situations. Just Zelda, and it's clear why. The game isn't perfect, but it's also over 25 years old. No one was leveling the same criticisms at it because there just wasn't anything else like it at the time. It's only when those things are eventually done better, even in Nintendo's own games, do those criticisms become more obvious.
Also him not getting what Jon’s getting at’ about Immersion aka Role-playing in an RPG like Skyrim to other games that just made you feel like you’re in the character’s’ shoes and inhabit the world around them. Comparing to Arin’s, which is being focused into the game rather than living in it.
@@cherrygrabber7172 Arin wants and needs everything laid out in front of him, and a concrete reason for doing something. He has zero interest in cinematic immersion or even story much of the time. He's stuck on retro gaming. That's fine, but he can't separate what he doesn't like with what's good.
@@granthamlin8126 Currently playing Dragon Age Origins, and Jon's perspective becomes ever so clearer the more I appreciate what games offer other than just gameplay. Such as music, atmosphere, world-building dialogue, and lore entries. Arin's on the other hand, I can get into DJMax Respect, or Hotline Miami, games that mainly focused onto just straight up gameplay. I suppose so, Jon still won the debate to me and Arin's outdated with the semantics.
@@cherrygrabber7172 I had Arin’s view until I played the Witcher 1-3 in order, by the time I finished 3’s last DLC I was fucking sobbing like a baby because i had put so much into the story and it was over. Replaying other games like Skyrim with Jon’s view just made those games a thousand times better.
@@LordHoth_90 Seeking immersion runs deeper once I realized that Skyrim has unimmersive parts to it, like frequent autosaving and having multiple save states, as it is easily exploitable via save scumming. Saving when sleeping made the most sense to me, so I limited it to that. Fast traveling, not by caravan, also ruins it for me, having avoided random encounters as well as going through loading screen after loading screen somehow becomes more tedious than traveling on foot or horse across landscapes. Really liked playing in Legendary difficulty, because in Adept if I have no combat perks, apparently I can easily slain a Bandit Chief with nothing but a decent sword. I just prefer preparation and hesitation over clicking left till enemy dies without prior perks to stand a chance. Unfortunately the difficulty had changed without me knowing, then after a while the difference is night and day. As an insult to injury, there's a loading tip about changing difficulties at anytime. So overall I think Skyrim can be immersive as the player allows it, but it has too many ways to hold the player's hand rather than encouraging exploration as well as experimentation on it's risk-and-reward system.
The fact that Jon never even finished ALTTP while being confident about his opinion of it is pure Jon of that time....if something nice exists and he sneezes at it...."OMG TOP 5 GAME/THING OF ALL TIME!!!" If it didn't? 'sall right But sometimes he criticizes stuff he's never played through, I've picked up over the years on the limited resource we have that Jon doesn't really "game" as much as we like to think and is very "hipfire" in his opinions, which is fine, I'm sorta ADD myself but still I'm slow to judge something until I've experienced it Doesn't help he's doing this on the internet in full display of assholes like me that criticize his every move....but he was hilarious with Arin, the first 8 or so months with Arin *IS* legendary...but I guess I can say his collection of opinions/thoughts could use some work...as seen in *REDACTED* Still though Arin has similar issues but he's generally more thorough with his descriptions, it's not as "off-the-cuff" In the context of some funny talented 22 year old dude and some other funny talented 25 year old dude....I genuinely I think it was just the age difference at the time, and also a bit of personality differences....Arin was def the more mature of the two, which made for such an amazing chemistry, God I miss it but they obv don't which is fair
