Hodor died the moment young Hodor calms down at the very end. You can see it. He experiences his own death in the future and then calms down because in a way, he died that day as a child. That is what breaks his mind and why he can't say anything other than Hodor.

Well if Doctor Who has taught me anything...it's that a Time traveller should never visit his own grave.
@Gulliedoutbigup
@Gulliedoutbigup 5 лет назад
@@asdrubalvect6328 Why? Let's say time travel became a thing in our life time and were public use. I'd take it to.. 2090 for example. that's 98 years since I was born, most likely I'm dead. If I went to visit my grave, what would happen to me? ''Oh my god... I... I died?!?!?!?!?! But I'm a human?!?!?! I wouldn't die after 98 years! *mind shatters*'' that argument ''A time traveller should never visit his own grave'' is bullshit. Everyone dies and everyone knows they're going to die.

+Taron Ikram In the years to come people will tell the legend of a simple but brave man who was told to hold a door to save his friends and that he still stands there up in the North holding that Door to this day and until the end of times. Help spread the legend of Hodor the Brave. Ps: I came up with that. Not as good as your quote but i like the thought of Hodor becoming a legend and a heroe for the future generations of westeros. Kinda lke Atlas who carries the world on his shoulders.

The young actor playing young Hodor absolutely knocked it out of the park. That scene could have come across looking very silly, but instead it was heart wrenching. Brilliant work for such a brief performance.

+Hardned I don't think they're afraid of Bran. The Night's King's mark allowed them to break the warding around the tree. If he crosses past the Wall, wouldn't he break that warding, too? If that's the case, then they needed any inexperienced greenseer to mark, they want him to flee, and are simply looking to scare him into retreating past the wall. Bran just happens to be what they need for now... in the show, anyway. The haven't really been alluding to a horn like they have in the books.
@ObligedUniform
@ObligedUniform 8 лет назад
Thats just the thing, there are no other potential Green Seers in the world at the moment. There are Wargs beyond the wall and potentially the other Stark Children true, but they evidently do not have the same potential as Bran does, to be a green seer. That said I think that is the White Walkers plan, to force them to retreat south, maybe a 'friendly' former black brother 'helping' them across would be part of that.

I thought Summer's death was poorly scripted, but story-wise I think he had to die to satisfy the metaphor for "Winter is Coming," ... for that to happen, "Summer must die."

KCohere33 I cannot put my finger on it, Summer's death felt empty to me ... I wanted to feel like he charged into the wights out of desperation, but the scene didn't seem like it conveyed that sense. It had felt different with Ghost snarling and preparing to pounce as they pounded the door down. I'm imagining a scene where Summer dispatches the early stray wights, notices a wave of new wights coming in, looks at the fleeing Meera, turns towards the incoming wave, growls, and charges. That characterization of Summer felt absent in the scenes they shot, imho.
@KCohere33
@KCohere33 8 лет назад
+Chee Wai Lee I think youre expecting too much of him. Do you see how fast those things move, how relentless they are? They swarm you like bugs. All poor Summer could do was keep them off Bran and Meera for a few seconds. He made a stand but that was all he could do.

Hodor is dead. What's more, I think we know exactly when he died. Young Willis goes into his seizure as Hodor is struggling against the wights. Willis is thrashing about and yelling "hold the door" as Hodor does just that. We see Hodor continue to hold the door as the door starts breaking apart and the wights are pulling at him and ripping into him. Then, we go back to Willis as his movements become less erratic and his speech becomes calmer. Basically, through Bran, young Wills was linked to present day Hodor and experiencing things in a way that overwhelmed his mind. As the life was leaving Hodor, the link between the two lessened, and Willis' mind and body began to relax more (with the permanent damage already having been done). Just as Willis seems to be coming out of the seizure, the screen goes to black, signaling the final end of Hodor. It's an incredibly well done scene. The emotional impact is obvious, but the imagery and symbolism that the director used is also breathtaking.

He didn't get his head cut off in some lowly execution. HE. HELD. THE. DOOR. so that others may live. He will be remembered as a hero. Hodor - Holder of Doors, Gatekeeper of Hope. But seriously at least he went out with dignity and glory unlike a lot of other characters who get offed laying in their own blood from a knife in their back.

I feel like the death of Summer and Hodor was symbolic like when Hedwig in Harry Potter was killed off. It's like watching innocence and childhood die. Yes, there will be grieving but then you become stronger because of it. So while watching Hodor die is so hard to watch and it's upsetting, Hodor died saving Bran. He sacrificed himself to save him, even though it's Bran's fault. Hodor held no grudge. Hodor didn't have a single bad bone in his body. He had no agenda. He was a loyal Northman and he loved Bran so much that he died protecting him. It was his destiny to do so and he accepted it.

Also, about Hodor when you guys were talking if Bran warged into him to hold the door, I think that he went back to his normal self at the end there when Bran warged, because his eyes go blank and back to normal, and then he acts like a normal person, he just don't say anything until he (maybe) died.

Take this a step farther-what if the vision the Red Witch (or any voices/visions) characters have had are Bran trying to talk to them, knowing that they need to do certain things for the 'right' future to occur. For example-perhaps in the future Bran knows Stannis came to the wall after Mel had a vision when reading the letter Davos handed her, so Bran gave her that vision to make it all happen? Or someone else with Bran's powers giving people visions to manipulate them by pretending to be gods to some yet unknown end?

If the Night King's mark allowed the Walkers to get past the magic of the cave while Bran was in there - does that mean that if Bran crosses back south of the wall that the Night King and his guys can cross the wall? Is that what we're going to see at the end of the season? Bran gets help (Benjen?) returning south of the wall, ultimately enabling the Walkers to pass the enchanted magic that has kept them at bay for all this time?

They couldn't approach it and now brans gonna fuck everything up.

What is fucked up isn't that Bran caused 'Hodor', it's that Hodors entire existence from that day on was purely to serve as a sacrifice when Bran would need it. Hodor has greying when he sacrifices himself, and is a kid when his life is taken from him, so that's like, 20-30 years at least that he's been nothing more then a sacrifice in waiting. What's worse, I don't even think Bran gives a fuck about Hodor, the children, the Reeds or anyone else that gave their life for him because now he's just an emotionless professor X....

My theory about Hodor is that Bran was mentally really in the past and physicly in the present. He warged into the present hodor while being in the past and that connected both Hodors and the warging started to affect past hodor. present hodor dieying while being connected fucked him up in the past because his minds died and all that remained was the last "order" he was given.

Edmure isn't the son of Blackfish. He's Catelyn and Lysa's younger brother. Also, I'm pretty sure it was Hodor and not Bran controlling him in his final moments. You can see the sadness in his eyes as he struggles. Maybe Bran inadvertently jumped from present Hodor to past Hodor.

+Kristjan Kangro or his mental block of saying Hold the door finally kicked in and finally he was free of it. Hodor could not communicate but was probably still intelligent despite only being able to say Hodor. Unfortunately he never learn to read or write, which is a shame that the Starks did not help him with that. There is actually a real world condition that makes a person only can say one or a few words over and over no matter what they are trying to say. It is extremely rare though.
@krissuyx

MegaMoose1989 He was definitely more intelligent than most people gave him credit for. And aye, I know of the condition. Usually has to do with traumatic events, just like with the gentle giant Willis.

In Emergency Awesome's video, he says the Azor Ahai prophesy was originally in High Valyrian, a gender-neutral language. So it could be Prince OR Princess that was Promised. Also, a commenter made a good point, they killed the direwolf as a metaphor, it says "Summer is dead; Winter is HERE"

I have a feeling that Jorah will go to Oldtown to find a cure because it's the main center of knowledge. He will meet Sam and learn about the WW.Dany might want to leave sooner if she hears about them.

I take comfort in the fact that he went like a badass. He held the fucking door. Most characters even though they are pretty cool and baddass themselves die in shitty ways, just look at most of the Starks, Oberyn, or even the best swordsman in the flashback, just stabed in the back. While Hodor a character most people just made fun of, died like a badass holding back a horde of undead.

The guy being turned into the white walker can't be the Night's king, because the Night's King was the 13th Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, who turned into the Night's King because he fucked the Night's Queen, and this scene must have taken place before the wall was erected, so there would be no Night's Watch. I like to think that he was the first Night's King, but not the current one, who is the one mentioned in the books.
@adense13
@adense13 8 лет назад
+Matt, King of the North That's never been specified in the show. And whatever is mentioned in the books could just be rumors and myths with no truth to them. I just think they call the big bad Night's King in the show because it's a good name.

The actor who plays the nights king is the same person who was in that scene when the children of the forest made the first white walker.
