Melisandre is well over 300 years old; the necklace has Asshai'i magic in it that protects her from poisons, keeps her warm and keeps her looking young and beautiful as long as she's wearing it and her faith is strong. It's implied in the books that she was a child slave that had been given to the temple of R'hllor to study dark magic, eventually becoming a priestess. She's getting quite disenchanted with her faith, isn't she?
Imagine the next guy who's Lord Commander. Thorne was all "I never once abandoned an order." I'd be like, 'Just so we're all clear... My 1st order to all of you is to never kill me. Consider this a standing order, always in play.'
Alliser def wasnt turning into a good guy he just got put in situations in the show that showed his good side but killing Jon is 100% in line with his character
I read the books so long ago I don't remember this myself but I was told that the reason Alliser is such a dick to Jon Snow is Ned is the reason why he's in the Nights watch. he sent him there for some reason or another.
@@ikoandreas5085 I had to google the answer and you are correct. "Alliser hated Jon because of his father, Eddard Stark. During Robert's Rebellion, he fought for the Targaryens, but they lost, and he got sent to the Wall. Realizing that Eddard's young bastard wanted to be a man of the Night's Watch, Alliser decided to make his life difficult as punishment for what his father did." But I guess it's possible Ned is the one who sent him to the wall directly. As that would make more since than just because Ned was on the other side. Because I am sure Jon wasn't the only one on the other side at the wall. Anyway, thanks for the answer.
So, yeah, we know from Melissandre's chapters that she's about 300 or 400. That's what the generally accepted consensus is about that. She doesn't actually say the number in her head in the books. But, yeah, good call, bro!
It's funny you mention Melisandre always having to be naked. In an interview, the actress who plays her specifically said that she hoped she "doesn't have to be naked again" when she was asked what she looked forward to in future seasons!
I’m excited for you to finish the series and review HOTD season 1. You can tell the budget was increased and the cinematography is absolutely stunning.
Been binge watching all your GOT reactions. Love your energy and reviews, as well as your attention to the soundtrack. Gotta catch up. Keep ‘‘em coming!!
The scenes at Dorne were shot along with the rest of the season 5 Dorne scenes at Seville, so the crew wouldn’t have to go back to that location for the scenes for this season.
In the books, Ellaria argued against vengeance for Oberyn's death, and Oberyn's daughters wanted to seat Myrcella on the Iron Throne. I'm not really sure what they are trying to accomplish here except more or less excise Dorne from the narrative.
I’m wondering if maybe the necklace’s power lasts longer if her faith is strong? Since her faith is waning in this scene, perhaps that’s why she appears old without it? Or maybe they did just make a mistake!
Love your reactions (plus you’re cute 😉)! Very biased, but Melisandre is my favorite character. This episode finally shows the other side of her character (not speaking physically), vulnerable, broken, and alone. In a meta sense - she’s seen generations of families live and die (x4) - what would that do to a person? She’s always had the bigger picture in view, but just cloudy. I really hope that GRRM gives her even more amazing abilities in the books vs the show. Melisandre = Yoda.
To all the people saying they love Sansa, do you remember this episode and SPOILERS: what happens later in the seasons and how she acts with Bryenne and everyone else?
@@ovation_sebastians3460you're absolutely right, season 4 had a perfect plot ,they did something that has never Been done in any other season, and at the beginning, of the season Joffrey, one of the important characters of the series, died and he was the ruler of the 7 kingdoms and all the balances changed as a result, but the success of the 6th season is that it contains, has two of the series 'biggest hits battle of bastard and winds of winter
Another great reaction video - interesting episode and you can see them try to rectify some of the mistakes from S5, particularly with Dorne. Sadly they couldn’t improve the writing for the Sand Snakes though, even that Trystane death scene is so cringe!!
@@kermitthefrog592 nope. many others do 50 minutes to 1 hour one for game of thrones. You just need to sprinkle in discussions/remove soundtrack in some bits throughout the episode to bypass that kind of stuff. This pretty much is true regardless of length though.
@@kobarsos82 he’s just keeping what he feels is necessary. If he has too many parts of the video where it’s not as interesting, it’ll hurt his audience retention I think
Honestly, I just make them as long as I feel like is necessary for that specific episode. Some episodes I have a lot more to say than others so there's more moments included. If there's a scene I don't talk at all on or make any noticeable reactions to it, then there's really no point of including it. Obviously these videos are for my reactions, not so people can watch the show. And so to avoid copyright, I do need to limit it. I get other creators might have their videos be much longer, but that probably means they are just talking a lot more (usually happens more when it's a group of people reacting rather than just one person like myself). Thank you for the feedback though, I do try to keep as much of the episode in the video as possible, there's also the Patreon option for those who want to see literally every moment of my reaction.
@@kermitthefrog592 come on guys lol not all colleges are bad and I'm sure he's a smart dude, a lot boils down to life experience regardless of his looks. He's doing well for himself on the channel too.
Its interesting to compare Margaery and Cersei in the hands of Sept Unella. While Cersei was threating and cursing Septa Unella, while Margaery wants to see Loras. Its implied that both surfers the same treatment. But Margaery spirit is more hard to break or at least she can make the façade more time. The plot of Dorne is weird. Because it doesnt make sense, Ellaria going all crazy and kill Oberyns family or even Myrcella. She says "elia martell murder and raped and you didnt nothing!", yet, she murder a inocent girl? She kills Tristan? Someone she saw grown up? Its so contradictory! I understand why they cut the Dorne plot from the books, (while the real season, was that D&D wanted to leave Dorne out after Oberyn death. But they love Indira Varma (ellaria Sand) performance and wanted her back. So they switch Ellaria character and merge with other) its very big, and at this point they didnt build it! This character cleaning that Dornish plot had, was just for the sake of shock and they could make so much different, without look nonesense. If Only they had reduce some scenes from the favourite characters. Some scenes are just to give more screen time...
Lol once you wrap up this season, just go back and watch the first three or four episodes of the series. The writing quality difference will jump up and smack you in the face
As far as writing goes the Dorne plotline is hot dogshit. Oberyn made it very clear that he abhorred violence against children and yet here is his former lover just slaughtering people including kids. I'd like to think that Oberyn would have not fallen in love with someone who would be capable of doing these things. Ugh I just hate everything about that storyline lol
(spoiler) The bigger problem for me is that it just leads nowhere. The storyline in s5 just existed to let Jaime do sth and after that the writers wanted to forget about all of it as soon as possible. It’s the same only worse with the sons of the Harpy storyline. It’s also just there to be completely pointless in the end and gets resolved lazily as fuck in Battle of the Bastards
@@stormywaters1565 I mean if we’re not being biased, George added a ton of dumb stuff in the last 2 books that D&D were smart enough to change or straight up omit. The first 3 books are great, but 4 and 5 were just George writing himself into a corner. Just saying they made some very good choices in terms of adapting the unadaptable.
@@kevinwendellcrumb1802 that's true. I'm honestly not convinced GRRM is all that great of a writer either (especially since it seems he doesn't have any idea how to end his series despite his protests otherwise and that he is 'working' on it). The writers for GoT aren't bad but they aren't great either. They were able to adapt source material very well and did a great job bringing the best of the books to life, but once the source material ran out you can just feel that everything changes. The pacing, the dialogue, the way some plot lines are resolved, ect. In the end I think they lost sight of what they were doing and were too focused on the attention it earned them.
S5 can't be worse than S1, be serious. we had Tyrion meeting Dany, Jon Snow named Lord Commander and then killed, the saddest death in the show (Shireen). Ok it's not the best season but only because of those sparrows that ruins S5 and S6.
I think s5 was worse than s1. The buildup to and aftermath of Ned's death in s1 was incredible, and the writing and dialogue quality was a lot more consistent throughout the entire season compared to s5. I found basically all of the s1 subplots really good, while the Castle Black subplot was the only one I liked much in s5 (I really disliked Dorne, Arya in Braavos, and the sparrows)
@@Phantastically Arya is worse in S6 in my opinion and i had nothing against Dorne. it was fun. in S1 the night's watch and daenerys are not so entertaining plus Sansa and Arya are not so important characters. Tyrion is good (from 1-6 he's always good), i like Jaime more in S5..... GoT is slow in every season but S1 and S2 are slower than the others. All S1 interesting things are located in King's landing apart from Daenerys. Tell me...which top 20 character is at its best in S1?? Not Jon (4, 5 and 6), not Dany (3 and 7), not Tyrion (2 and 4), not Arya (4 and 8), not Sansa (5 6 7) etc etc....not a single character from S1 (please don't say Eddard, who is only in S1)
To be fair, I'd give every season at least a 9/10 so far. So me saying Season 5 was my least favorite up until this point isn't really a big criticism towards Season 5 if I still loved it. I do plan on rewatching this show after I'm done so I'll might have different opinions by then, who knows.
Sparrows are fine, especially given that they touch on important subject of "you are few, we are the many" types and people with "greater good" ideas and without normal human temptations are usually the most dangerous ones, literal fanatics (tho I see some people and reactors think High Sparrow is for the people, showing all these nobles the power of the people, which he isn't, just a hypocritical power-hungry preachy old dude), also great story about Cersei Arya storyline tho..., and Dorne, don't forget Dorne I like season 5 for how bleak and dark it is, because grimdark fantasy should be like this, but I undestand some people's compaints about it, I disagree, but understand. I think season 5 did a lot of things right, but some character stories dragged it down, mostly Arya stuff, but some others as well (yeah, again, Dorne and Ellaria Sand and her companions)
@@shockwave1126 both of them make sense and are at least entertaining to watch. Ellaria’s whole character makes zero sense. Joffrey and Ramsey are psycopaths. Ellaria isnt. She is just a cunt who thinks she is righteous
