This is nitpick but hearing tormund say how bothered he is by the height of the wall, meanwhile he’s supposedly climbed the wall fifty times, just shows how the writers give no shits at this point.

Carter said it well, and I think that’s the main problem with those who justify the last seasons of Game of Thrones. Just because something has to be surprising (and it probably is) doesn’t mean it’s justified or good. It must be believable, regardless of whether it’s surprising or not, and that’s what killed Game of Thrones: the need to surprise no matter what or how.
@ATC43
@ATC43 18 часов назад
Exactly. The little finger twist plays purely towards people's disdain for his character and their love of Sansa and Arya. The writing has no build up towards a potential twist by the Sisters and was so bad that it made people think it was pointless and stupid, which it was. But then the twist happens and some people go "all is forgiven" when that shouldnt be the case. The twist made you feel good, but the lead up to it was still trash on all fronts.
@leratomathibe1862

Sansa worked it out when she was working out the worst possible reason for her to do what she is doing The outcome would be Arya would be the lady of Winterfell, Sansa knows Arya doesn’t want that so it can’t be true. Yes, the moment she realizes that LF is pushing the idea of Arya as a rival for Lady of Winterfell, it clicks; if you rewatch the scene, you can see it in her eyes. She knows that's the last thing Arya would ever want, and that's when the counterplay begins.

Once again, I'm with Carter. If you hated the Arya-Sansa plot becaue it didn't make sense, having a twist in the end doesn't negate the fact that it didn't make sense! A well-written plot would still make sense while it is unfolding and would not be jarring to the audience, even if it takes an unexpeted turn at the end. Seasons 7 and 8 are a completely different show to me. Peak GoT is about political intrigue, clever plots, and character-driven dialogue and storylines. The magical and fantastical elements were only the icing on the cake. But now that they are the main events, the show has become all about spectacles. I think this is what Carter meant when he said he felt like he's conscious that he's watching a tv show now, as opposed to witnessing events unfold naturally like in earlier seasons. Without GRRM the show also lost the sharpness in its writing. Often times now it has a distinct fanfiction feel to it. The dialogue sounds strained and scenes play like they're only there to move the plot along, like they''re trying to get places in a hurry rather than the natural pacing in peak GoT.

The biggest reason that Ned didn't tell Jon the truth about his mother at that point was that he wasn't sworn to the Night's Watch yet, being in the Night's Watch puts you beyond the reach of having broken laws (most of the criminals who were "sentenced" to the wall), or incurred the wrath of the king (Ser Alliser, for fighting for the Targaryens against Robert, or Jon being the son of the hated Rhaegar with the women he loved... he did say that he would kill any Targaryen he found). Once he was a sworn brother, and as part of his oath relinquishing family and any claim to titles, none of it could be held against him.

So this is my favorite episode of the season, and I think one of the best in the series overall. It's so frustrating that S7 is inconsistent, because all the ingredients for something great are there for the taking. They really shouldn't have shortened the season because even just a few more episodes in between the big stuff helps to space out key plot moments, and more or less "buffer" the pacing. More than anything, it would contribute to fleshing stuff out. Euron could have used this. He barely got any time, so he's an afterthought of a villain. Cersei is queen but unlike Robert, Tommen, Dany in Mareen and even Joffery, we never really see her dealing with the stresses of ruling. It's the little things, I guess, but they add a lot.

It's because of the biggest flaw of later season: No downtime. Downtime is when the planning/preparation/character development/exposition happens. Uptime is when there's action and stakes. (mostly) Good writing has balance between uptime and downtime. See for example Terminator 2. Later GoT seasons are packed too much with uptime and little downtime, so they become predictable and there's no build-up nor surprise to them when they happen.

The ending i was hoping for was a final shot, starting with a zoomed in shot of Littlefinger's face, then the camera slowly pulls out to show him on the Iron Throne, then the camera pulls out further to show that all of Kings Landing burning around him. The show would end with him as King of the Ashes. But that obviously didn't happen lol

@@radnedge1983 interesting. I mean… that would make the magic a more conscious thing. I don’t think it’s that at all. It’s just a general - no dragons come north, no Walkers/Others go south - and that’s it. It’s just magic built into the Wall. I don’t think it picks and chooses who can and cannot go past, if so, why wouldn’t Benjen be able to come back through south? It’s not a conscious magic.

Ned is not a rat for not telling Jon. Remember Robert was still alive at that time and he wanted to kill every last Targaryen he could get his hands on. it was smart for Ned not to tell Jon not knowing if young Jon would have been mature enough to keep it secret while the whole world continues to call him a bastard and spit in his face. what Ned IS a rat for is never telling Catelyn..... he let Cat treat Jon like shit for YEARS because she thought Jon was a symbol of Ned's infidelity being flaunted in her face. Ned could have told her so she would have lightened up on Jon and she would have 100% been able to keep it a secret.

It's equally possible that Sansa went to Bran and asked him if he had any knowledge concerning Little Finger. Sansa was aware Little Finger was a snake. She's learned and has become extremely smart. So, I'm pretty sure she caught on to Little Finger attempting to pull her and Arya apart. So, she may have approached Bran herself asking him if he had any knowledge of Little Finger's wicked deeds.

I think some of Arya and Sansa's back and forths were legit. Arya never got along with Sansa when they were younger and their personalities clashed. They hadn't seen one another since they were children so there were INDEED unresolved issues. HOWEVER, they are both also smart enough to know the weasel that Little Finger is, with Sansa knowing him best. They milked him for information and played his own game against him. I think it's fair to think if it weren't for Bran it is possible that Little Finger could have gotten in Sansa's head and caused a problem between her and Arya, but it's also possible that Sansa didn't need Bran's info to know how dirty Little Finger played the game and thus was capable of not allowing him to influence her.
@tealsummers2316
@tealsummers2316 19 часов назад
Both Sansa and Arya took the opportunities to learn from the people they were involved with. Whether they liked them or not. Arya learned from the Hound who she first hated and a girl who beat her all the time. Sansa learned from Cersi (said so herself) and from Little Finger, liking neither of them.

I thought LittleFinger scene was a fitting end. He underestimated the Starks, especially his protegee Sansa like many before him. The twist was good but it hit different. We're used to hints however subtle of where the plots might lead. There was little to none of that here. The viewers were blindsighted too and in hindsight I think it was meant to mirror just how secretive the Starks had to be on this to evade detection by such a dangerous and manipulative player. Very good episode over all.
