Okay first of all, proper respect to Beau for the timing of this excellent drop #applause# But this reminds me of a question I've been wondering about of the general culture of sex in Westeros, particular when it comes to brothels. Obviously we're still a wee bit of time away from the invention of condoms. And so, do you think the concept of "pulling out" is there and pervasive thru Westerosi culture? Idk, especially with how this was a WAY out of balance patriarchal society, a big part of me thinks pulling out is likely not a big thing, a common male attitude would be "alright she's just a whore anyway, I'm paying my well earned gold to get laid, it's going to be as great as I can possibly make it, including that I'm firing the rocket from inside". And yet, trying to follow that to its logical conclusion, you'd think a preggo whore with a bastard inside her is quite common, but... no, there's no way in hell so many women would so easily just put themselves on the shelf for several months of not being able to make any money.
anybody here not watching any teasers or trailers just to experience the last season 100% unspoiled, but still watching nerd soup just to stay hyped? :D
@Dave Robb yea, exactly, too many spoilers last season.. some time after last season i stopped following all GOT related sites on FB, and every time I see something GOT related on youtube a select that im not interested, not gonna watch anything related to season 8 after its over.. :D not even nersoup previews....
Why does Arya do a lot of sweeping. To teach discipline. It's the same thing Jeor Mormont told Jon, "Do you want to lead someday? Then learn how to follow",
But THAT choice always seemed to crack me up. "Go sweep up"... yes, sweep that floor that never really actually seems to have much dirt on it anyway lol (and no, NOT *because* it's constantly being sweeped!! :p
Made perfect sense that, after some initial resistance, at this point Sansa capitulated to Little Finger. She would have known she was outclassed, and she saw Baelish push her aunt out the moon door. And her strategy with manipulative, dangerous adults in King's Landing was to play along while she watched and learned, and survived.
It's a shame we never learned more about the High Sparrow. He was definitely lying and playing his own game. One minute he has bare feet because he gave his shoes away, the next he just left home without bothering to pick them up...like which was it? The whole point of him giving two different reasons for having bare feet was to show that he was probably not motivated by religion and feeding the poor and stuff. I wonder if they just decided it would take too much time to explore. Or maybe it's just enough to know that real people always have selfish motives
I actually think we understand a lot of his motivation from his chat with Olenna. Olenna is offering him the usual trapping a man wants. Gold, fame and women but he rejects it: "I imagine this is strange for you. Everyone you meet has a hidden motive, and you pride yourself on seeking it out. But I’m telling you a simple truth. I serve the Gods" That's when Olenna gets the real truth from him. When she suggests to him half of the people of King Landings are sinners, but he's choosing to make an example of her grandchildren and threatens him, he replies with: "You are the few. We are the many. And when the many stop fearing the few…” She's smart enough to realise what he really wants. The complete destruction of the existing order. He doesn't deny Olenna's claim that half the city are sinners, he admits it.
My favorite part of the Janos scene is that it uses the same music as Robb executing Karstark, or a least a similar theme. It's nice to see that parallel to his brother at this point.
@@Kaycity44 Dormer asked to be released from her contract and killed off in Season 5 because she wanted to pursue other opportunities, but agreed to stick around until Season 6 for the story to play out like D&D planned, so we ultimately got more of her than even she initially wanted to give.
Well, on one hand she was almost perfect for the role and I'm glad she was cast and we got her brilliant acting. On the other hand, don't sign on if you aren't willing to let the writers give your character a full story arc.
I'm glad she stayed. But I feel in the books she'll have a more significant role. She already does. How would Cersei kill her with her whole family behind her, her father on the council and her father's army in the city. But Cersei is that stupid and reckless.
I am reading the books and just yesterday I read this part when Cersei meats the High sparrow, and the moment when she agrees to have the faith armed, and she thinks something like "not even Tywin would do it so well" and I just screamed "YOU FOOL! HE PLAYED YOU SO EASILY!!!" She just saw minutes before how many of them are there... And Qyburn has been informing her about their numbers, she was just too blind to realise the significance of the information...
29:10 “the Jon snow latrine pit, named after Jon Snow” Fun fact! Kit Harrington’s ancestor, John Harrington, was the inventor of the first flushed toilet. It’s why it’s called ‘the John’.
I noticed this too. The Sparrows have done more to break the wheel than anyone else we've seen. Is it even established in Westerosi history that royals that can be put on trial? I mean all legal authority derives from the king. That is before the High Sparrow came along and treated the Royal family the same way any common criminal would be treated.
I love i the books Cersei is always so proud of her decision like o if Tywin could see me now, meanwhile the entire time shes making like the worst decisions. I love the moment she taken by the sparrows and realizes how useless everyone around her is.(besides Qyburn)
"Humble bragging". Yes guys that's explains his role perfectly. That's why he was unapologetically spitting at the royals' perceptions and mindsets during every conversation
I think the idea the showrunners had regarding Littlefinger and Ramsay was that Ramsay was beneath notice. I think in the show he even expresses disdain for Ramsay because he is a bastard. Basically, Littlefinger considers bastards as worthless, which really doesn't match up with his character.
Re. Bird conspiracies......I have one too! I think that unless birds are killed by animals or fly into windows, then they’re immortal!! Think about it......how often do you see a bird just drop down dead from the sky? Never! How often do you see a bird that’s just dead and not ripped apart? NEVER!!!!
Book Davos would never serve Jon or anybody but Stannis he is basically a family man who just wants to go home to his wife and kids but feels this obligation that he owes everything to Stannis, and perhaps need to stand as a voice of moderation and counterweight to Melisandre’s fanaticism
Actually it's a great scene between Baelish and Sansa. The problem was what lead next. Sansa should have been a manipulator like Baelish said, "make Ramsey yours". This could have been interesting if for instance she would have turned Ramsey against her father. Maybe seduce both and then turned them. Which would lead to Ramsey killing his dad.
Yeah I see what you mean but I don't think it would have worked with Ramsay, he is a true sociopath and sadist, he is not interested in sex, he likes dominating people with sex. The guy is a true demon, it is hard to have the upper hand. In the books, it seems that only Northerners know of Ramsey's nature, and the knowledge was not shared with the Stark daughters
When Arya is cleaning the bodies. I always thought this was to teach her respect for the dead, AND the human anatomy. How many naked bodies has Arya seen? She needs to be calm around nudity and death. Maybe I am wrong but she only knew where the heart was cos the hound showed her
I think what separates the High Sparrow from Joffrey and Ramsay is that he believes what he is doing is right. Joff and Ramsay do things just to be evil. The Sparrow is doing what he believes is right.
I think the same thing about Melissandre. Even when she's burning people alive, she's not doing it because she gets a kick out of it. They genuinely believe they're doing a good thing.
I also have a problem with Cersei "choosing" the High Sparrow" - why the heck wouldn't she foresee a problem with a zealot being put in charge? It's made clear she can't control him. Especially since she's sleeping with her bro. (among others).... The books made it more palatable and believable. She kills the high priest because Tyrion appointed him and she's her usual paranoid self about anything Tyrion. What she doesn't envision is the High Sparrow being his replacement. A consequence unforeseen. This makes more sense and rings truer. Why would she put her family in danger with a zealot in charge? She could have found a more interesting way to exterminate her 8 year old son's wife. And a safer way. Though the wildfire scene is awesome.
Small correction (It is Nerd Soup afterall): Ed Gein made household items and wore his victims body parts (amongst other depravity), the original texas chainsaw massacre was mostly inspired by Gein; Leatherface, of course, wore the face or faces of victims. Jeffrey Dahmer ate and assaulted his young boy victims and had a fridge and home full of body parts (also amongst other dark and gross activities). There is also evidence, or even more evidence I should say, that some of Dahmer's story was embellished, even more embellished than Gein's may or may not have been. It's a tiny thing; mostly I just love your channel and recaps. Also, I am glad that even though the books are incredible and you both have read them and refer to them; you don't front and act like the show isn't absolutely groundbreaking. Keep it up guys. Love all the stuff you are doing, GOT and beyond. The only possible improvement would be to get more people watching, which you can only control by continuing to put out great content.
3:28 Dude, it's nearly midnight, entire house asleep except me and I just busted out laughing loud AF here. You guys are hilarious, but if I hear an agitated knock at my door from a sleepy roommate anytime soon, I blame you.
Your opening but made me think of a Lee Pace quote from the movie The Good Shepered (2006): “I remember a senator asked me why we don’t put the word THE before CIA when talk about CIA..... I said “Do you put the word The before God?”
Margery doesn’t play the game well enough... if she had, she would have learned from the Starks, the Tully’s, the Reigns and so on.. don’t poke the lion. She should have made her moves more quietly. I knew they were screwed the moment they tried Cersei. She is really not the one. Lol
This is when I realized when cersei loves the idea of loving her children but viewing them more as an extension of herself. She didn't have to like margaery but she also should have realized Tommen if guided by a wife like her. From a family who keeps peace and prosperity by understanding if you treat the people under you like rats eventually they will bite back. And Tywin did actually manage Kingslanding pretty well before the war. They would have some similar goals too. I know some people were thinking that they would want to kill tommen after margaery got pregnant. But I don't think she would have after realizing that he would treat her well, and it would be better ruling from the sidelines. If anything goes wrong she could just play the innocent wife and then take over if needed in the future.
Regarding the Mountain with a Dwarf's head, this is how I understood that part of the book. The Lannisters were supposed to send the Gregor's head to the Martells, given his huge size, they sent a Dwarf head (probably Penny's brother) as according to how dwarfs are depicted in the book, they have oversized heads (even compared to normal size people). So the Mountain kept his original head. I remember they didn't sent a whole head, it was just a larger skull than normal, so there was no way the Martell's couldn't tell if it wasn't the Mountain's head. Hope that makes sense, and pardon my grammar, I'm not a native speaker :)
To be fair Sansa hasn’t been a victim of circumstances since the hound offered to take her everything after that it’s horrific but she isn’t a victim of circumstances.
Ned lied about his son. Tyson lying about his son. Wouldn't be wierd here the show does this more often that strange things happen in the same way to different people. And I was actually hoping for Tyrion being a Targaryen not because of the name but to justify the hatred from his father (justify it more) seeing as his decision not to treat Tyrion as a son destroyed his house. And I really liked the three head of the dragon theory with Tyrion as the third head.
Can people admit that Sansa is not the most smart character...most of the bad things in the show happened because of her. I'm not saying she is not good or nice but she is not a genius...also she has become smarter and stronger(mature) only after what she experienced with Ramsey
penguin 0912 I agree to the extent that (in the books) it was bc Sansa ran to Cersei for help when Ned told them they were leaving King’s Landing, bc Sansa didn’t want to leave...she wanted to be Queen by marrying Joffrey. This led to the deaths of Ned, the Northern Army/staff they had w/ them and set her and Ary’s fates. Also, let’s not forget about the incident on the way to King’s Landing that led to Lady’s death and Nymeria’s loss bc she chose basically lie for Cersei & Joffrey instead of backing up her sister. But what I hate most is Sansa being allowed to “win” the Battle of the Bastards bc she didn’t bother telling Jon about the Army of the Vale before the battle that SHE talked/pushed Jon into to begin with. Not to mention arguing w/ Jon and undermining his authority in front of the Lords of the North and was actually going to order Arya’s death if Bran hadn’t exposed Littlefinger’s treachery. Other than Rob, Bran & Theron’s stupidity causing their own fates, Sansa was almost as complicit as Littlefinger for the things that befell her family and the North. Sansa sucks!
3:30 You know that meme where Booby B is like BBBBOOOOOOOOAAAAAARRRRR Well imagine that but with Circe and a different five letter word that rhymes with boar.
I was really looking forward to seeing Cersei's downward spiral in season 5, as more and more of her plans make things worse and worse when nobody's reacting the way she assumes they will. It does make it a bit more believable that she would cede power to the sparrows, because she's kind of drowning in all of her mistakes by that point, looking for a big sweeping solution to multiple problems. But in the show, it's her first and only mistake since gaining power. She skips right to the big one, and it's not out of anything resembling desperation. It's plan A. "Give away power to a stranger." Doesn't really seem like her M.O., especially since show Cersei is supposed to be smarter than her crazed book counterpart. Not so much this time, though.
Littlefinger marries Sansa off to Ramsey so that Ramsey will abuse her and the Vale will be motivated to take the North in order to save Sansa, and give him power by extension.
it seems littlefinger has enough control to make the knights of the vale dowhat he wants even without the need to rescue sansa. and is supposed to actually care about sansa.
