I feel like you minimize a lot what happened to Viserys. He became violent because he lost his father, mother, brother, niece and nephew as a CHILD and was forced to run away to a foreign land, raise a sister he resented because her birth led to his mother's death, sell all he had left of his family and mother to survive and feed both himself and Dany, had to beg for scraps and escape assassination attempts ALL THE TIME. He had no one to raise him and curb his inherited mental illness and people hosted him and encouraged his behavior to easily manipulate him... The reason he took so much pride in being a Targaryen and blood of the dragon is because he had nothing left. So he clung to it desperately. Viserys is a tragic character, because he wasn't always this way. In the books, Dany says that he was kind, read her stories and protected her. But after selling their mother's crown he lost hope and went down a slippery slope. It doesn't absolve him from what he did to Dany, but it does show that he is a grey character, and had things gone differently, he could have been good and gotten the support he needed to remain so.

In my opinion, it would be better to film these like your normal reactions, not as a stream. You're getting spoiled this way on many things. Also, moderators would be the best course of action, and no interaction with the viewers, unless the comments are approved by the moderators. It would allow you to stay completely spoiler free, thus being surprised at more things, which makes for a better viewing experience.

"Ned" is a nickname for Edward, Edwin, Edmund in our world. Anything that starts with Ed, basically. I think people like to rhyme and shorten their friends' names. Say you have a friend named Sally. Sal, my pal, hey, gal, Sally talley, Sally valley. The next thing you know, Sally's nickname is Val, and then it spreads out and it's a common nickname for Sally. (I probably could have used Robert, William, Edward, but I made one up instead.) Richard--maybe the ch was pronounced like a k at one point. Margaret to Peggy is a little trickier.
@Dropnostop

So what you said is common knowledge. I think the adding of N to someone’s name that starts with an E is what threw them off. Plus the fact his name is “Eddard” which is a very rare name.

It kind of is a big deal to think Elia's rape and murder and the murders of the children, Aegon (yes, another one) and Rhaenys (yes, another one) are okay. Saying it's okay because they were the products of incest is pretty dicey. Daenerys's parents were brother and sister (I mean, their family tree is a vine), but her older brother, Rhaegar, married a princess of Dorne. This generation would have married out of the Targaryens too, probably (although Daenerys' being Aegon's age is a little worrisome), but, in any case, they didn't deserve to be brutally murdered because they were products of incest. Ned didn't think so either, which is why he warned Cersei to leave. He believed Robert would kill the children (children you would think he'd loved, although, Robert, he really doesn't have much emotional depth), and Ned didn't want that to happen again. (To be clear, I'm not saying Robert killed the Targaryen children, but that he was happy they had already been disposed of--he almost certainly would have.) They could have sent the Targaryen children to foster in the North if they were worried about their not growing up to be loyal subjects. Killing Aerys and killing Elia and the children are separate issues.

Viserys : as my father readied himself to defend his throne until the bitter end, little did he know the horrors that awaited him and our family. Dude, mockingly : Hah! horrors lol Those horrors were real. In the Sack of King's Landing you find the age old "does the end justify the means" question, which forms a fundamental precept of ASOIAF. Those horrors shaped Ned Stark and therefore shaped the story itself.

Let's explain to you the concept of nuance. He was the way he was due to what he is put through. I know it's hard to look outside of your perspective bud. But try for a sec. His niece and nephew were brutally murdered, your father was a mad man who put you in the position of being killed off relation. So you flee. Your mother dies giving birth to your sister, the only light you really had left. You raise said sister, protect her, an inevitably sell you prized possessions to provide. You get fed lies that you are correct and just, and then all of your experience blend together into that. He is reprehensible, but you can still pity him. Bc it didn't need to be that way. But If it's difficult then, I honestly feel sorry for you. The world just isn't as black and white, like how mommy and daddy told you.

Number two, I will never sympathize or pity a person who assaults, gr**ms, and threatens r*pe onto their sibling, offspring, or another human in general. You stating that Viserys had a hard childhood and lost everything does not excuse his disgusting actions or words. A POS is just a POS. MORE OVER if Dany was all he had left, then he should have cherished her and protected her. Like an older brother should. HE DID the exact opposite. Whether that be because of the way he grew up and was raised, or simply because that’s the way he chooses to be (cause guess what grown men know right from wrong) It was very satisfying watching him get exactly what he deserved (especially after he threatened to kill Dany and her unborn child) and seeing Dany finally become free of him.

If they wanna go into HotD as blind as possible, I'm sure they'd appreciate knowing this specific spoiler which basically gives away the ending of a show they haven't even started yet. It seems like you yourself don't know of the spoiler I'm referring to or you'd understand how huge it is. Other reactors had their mods let them know the exact time stamp in the episode with the spoiler. They wouldn't miss anything skipping the scene. There was stability during the Targaryen dynasty. It wasn't 300 years of burning people. Only the Mad King did that and even that was later in his reign. Not everyone supported Robert either.

Don't worry, although the level of writing hasn't remained over the top in the last few seasons (it's easy to understand why: the last two books aren't out yet, so it's not easy to take a perfect direction with all the storylines that have been created throughout the story), there will be many episodes from the fifth season onwards that you will appreciate a lot, so my advice is not to be influenced by the comments, but simply to enjoy this adventure. He's the one who brought the news of Jon Arryn's death to Ned and Catelyn, and has been caring for Bran and Rickon while the Starks are away. Old Nan mentioned the Giant Spiders too when she was telling Bran that scary story while he was in bed. Yes, Pycelle is also a Maester. Like you both have noticed how the writing in the show portrays different perspectives of what the truth is, the timeline in GoT is so separated from its legends of Heroes and Magic as we are from our own legends of Atlantis and mythologies. Just like we all have our ideas of these myths, the people in Westeros do too, and they are usually perceived as primitive or childish perceptions of the world. The only difference is Westeros is beginning to manifest some of these legends once again, so parts of these stories within the story might be a bit exaggerated or real to some degree. Cheers guys. The biggest thing about Robert is that when he's focused he's a force of nature but he can become absent very quickly. Drinking, whoring, and hunting took prime importance over ruling, his marriage, and raising "his children". Robert at the end was just a beat down miserable man drowning in his own vices. Robert Addy was the perfect actor for him, his voice sounds commanding. I'm sure they will do a Robert's rebellion show on hbo. It'll be awesome

so the ending in the books is probably gonna be very different than the show. because not only do the books have a lot of important plots and characters that just aren’t in the show so it’s gonna play out differently no matter what, george is still writing the ending and he’s said that the more he writes the books/ending, the more different it’s been from the show ending. there’s going to be some similar things but also don’t forget that the creators of the show (d&d) have made up certain parts of the show ending (they explicitly take credit) and with other parts of the show, george gave them a rough outline but not the actual full fleshed out plots. so i personally think the book ending is going to be very different. also s1-4 are definitely the golden years, s5-7 there’s a decline in quality that starts small and then gets bigger as the seasons go on, and the majority of s8 is disliked and considered just not good by everyone. even though the show just slowly declined until becoming a shit show lol, there’s still a lot of good moments in s5-8 so it not all bad but it’s definitely behind it’s glory days.

I hope you'll watch House of Dragon after you've watched ALL of the Game of Thrones. That's how all of us have watched it, that's how it was made. I don't think the spoilers for HoD are that major in GoT, if people didn't point them out, you probably wouldn't even notice them, since you currently don't even know which Targaryens are in HoD, or you would forget them before watching HoD. Also, watching two complex shows from the same fantasy universe with lots of characters and stories happening in different times might be confusing. Last, but definitely not least, *I think that watching HoD before finishing GoT would take A LOT away from the experience and excitement of watching Dany's dragons grow up and develop in GoT.* (My reasoning is below, some people might think the first sentence a bit spoilery, but I think it's a well known fact that will just hype you up for the show.) There are several full grown dragons in HoD from the very beginning of that show and HBO had a better budget for them, so the effects are better. Dany's dragons might seem lame in comparison, if you start watching HoD before finishing GoT. Also, it's fun to compare the looks and behavior of HoD dragons with GoT full grown dragons, which you won't be able to, if you start watching HoD when Dany's dragons are still babies/small.

So parents call their kids "mine Ed" or "mine El". Then it transitioned to when "my" was more used and people think the names are "my Ned" and "my Nel". Even the word apron was once "a napron" but due to change in language, it became an apron. At least that's what I read about. Idk how true it is but it makes sense.

Arcane and Avatar the Last Airbender! 🎉🎉🎉 Some of the best shows to react to!

In my opinion, the show stays pretty consistent all the way through. Its really half way through season 7 where the writing really starts to decline. Alot of immersion breaking WTF moments. But the writing is the only thing that plummets, everything else is still incredibly well done, the music, costumes, acting, film making; all stellar. I guess we can be grateful for that at least. And HOTD is showing a similar level of polish.

@@robertfishburn8545 Nah it's not. Arya's storyline for all of season 5 and 6 is a whole lot of nothing, Dorne is terrible in season 5 and worse in season 6, the Sparrow plotline is nothing and goes nowhere, Ironborn plot is stupid and Euron is terrible, all of the characters are written to service the plot and steadily lose any character traits they have. That's not just a season 8 thing, it steadily happened from season 5 onwards.
@robertfishburn8545
@robertfishburn8545 Год назад
@bookswithike3256 Again, these things all could've been done well, they just dropped the ball with execution. But I feel like complaining about characters only serving the plot, in a plot driven story makes no sense. For me, the only reason season 5 was a miss, was because all the things they set up meant nothing. If the show concluded well a few iffy plotlines could be forgiven but hey. Expect less and you'll never be disappointed my friend

Its not really george rr martins fault that they ran out of material so fast, They had about 10 seasons worth of material in the books , they cut out major plot lines, and erased major characters, Even then George was willing to give them some story beats that the showrunners could aim to hit for a total of 10-12 seasons, but the showrunners wanted to pick up a new star wars project, but they botched seasons 7-8 so bad that they weren't too hot in Hollywood and lost the star wars project, then they wanted to do a show about "What if the confederacy won" so they became like untouchables in Hollywood

It makes me laugh every time Cody laughs about the blood of the dragon. You can tell it tickles him to his core. And it gets funnier to him every time he hears it said. 😂 I also have to say that your channel is the best reaction commentary I watched. I have watched quite a few reactors and enjoyed most. But not always the commentary. It is apparent that you both "get it" the most, out of all of those. I throughly enjoy listening to your discussions and input. I think people that are book fans like the early seasons and disappointed with the later ones. In the books it's still early in the game of thrones. So many things that happen in the show can't happen in Winds because the storylines differs in so many ways.

Yeah watch house of the dragon soon before you finish game of thrones. After season 2 maybe. It’s always interesting to see the POV of people watching it who haven’t seen the show or in your case most of the show. There is no spoilers in house of the dragon. If you do 2 episodes a week, you will be finished in 5 weeks. If you do 3 episodes, you’ll be done in just over 3 weeks.

Few things could be noticed beneath the stories told here. One could see as Tywin explicitly orders Mountain to kill remaining Targaryen kids and their mother Elia Martell of Dorne in a brutal way. And one could put two and two together and remember as offended he was when Targaryens refused to take his daughter as a spouse to Rhaegar and chose Elia Martell instead. One could also add another two to this equation remembering how Robert Baratheon was so easy on Tywin after what he did to Targaryen children and King's Landing inhabitants. As mentioned before Robert had a Targaryen in his ancestral tree supporting his claim to the throne as a partly Targaryen but those children would've had a better claim to it, so... That's probably also why he is so eager to finish off remaining Targaryens. And one would probably also make another point for Ned's honour mentioned a few times here. As you've noticed Cersei said that Ned could've just make a step and become a king himself but he did it by the book and supported Robert's claim (as Robert had a claim to the throne being somewhat Targaryen). Ned did it by the book again refusing to take the throne himself or give it to Renly when Robert died but supported Stannis Baratheon instead who has that right by law (he's the second Baratheon in line of succession so Renly has a weaker claim). He betrayed his honour on scaffold confessing to treason in order to save his daughters and here one could also remember small talk between Bran and maester Luwin in this season where Bran repeats Tullys words "Family, duty, honour. Family comes first."

I do kind of wish they had gone back and re edited some of these. There is a common expression that I think might make season 8 go down better and that might make you look at certain things differently but I swear I don't think we hear it until season 7 although I believe it is the books whenever the family comes up (fate tosses a coin, I am trying to be non spoiler). And also, come on play the Rains of Castemere while Tywin talks about it, I personally have issue recognizing musical interludes. Having rewatched, it makes a certain episode better when you can.

Concept: Game of Thrones remake--the era is the same, but everybody has a cell phone. I really want a prequel spinoff about Lann the Clever, who has several trickster legends about him. Maybe something like the Queen Charlotte miniseries, where they just tell that story and it's done. Beautiful stained-glass-looking artwork on the House Arryn one narrated by Catelyn. I read the books and don't feel sorry for the Mountain. I wonder what I'm missing there. Yes, Jon and Arya are perhaps the Starkiest Starks of all. You answered one of my questions--cool. You should do a reaction to Psycho, since you haven't seen it. Psycho II is good too, although not Hitchcock. My earlier comment about the Tyrells was that the name is pronounced differently in the Lore videos from on the show. Yes, watch Bridgerton! And then Queen Charlotte. You could even watch Queen Charlotte first and then Bridgerton; I think that would be interesting. Queen Charlotte is a prequel, and I think it would give a different perspective knowing things about some characters' backstories. Put it to a vote which should be first, maybe? I loved Interview with the Vampire too. I was going to suggest you rewatch/watch it together if B. hadn't seen it yet.

i read the books before i started the show and im so jealous/happy for you that you get to go in blind bc this is truly some of the best tv! -as for what you said about the ending its complicated for the show its not too bad of an ending but as a book reader its hard to enjoy much after s5/6 also its not necessarily just george rr martins fault there is a lot of stuff that the showrunners cut from the books and changed around and that caused a disagreement between them and george and he left the show around s4 and he told them a few of the things that would happen and then let them do the rest so it was just a bunch of things added up and the last season kinda falls off but overall i think youll love the show and you shouldnt let the people who say "the ending is shitty" discourage you or make you dread the later parts of the show!

The show started getting bad when it got rid of a lot of the magical aspects that are in books. people always Blame grrm and say the reason the show went bad was cause they ran out of the source material but the showrunners cut out so much of the books. the dorne arch was so good d&d ruined the books I don't think they even read the books you could see it just search it up.(d&d is a nick name for the two showrunners)
